🧗Bob & Karri are 2 ordinary, 50 somethings that decided to sell everything and say goodbye to traditional living in favor of RV Life. They started making videos for friends and family and posting to KZfaq. After meeting several “KZfaqrs” they were disgusted with what they were clued into. They now make videos to dispel all the nonsense and call out FAKE RV LIFE. They share honest advice and a clear love for the RV lifestyle, all with an underlying message that YOU can do this!

I am opposite, I 99% boondock in Arizona for the winter. Im single retired male and love desert in the winter. I met a newly retired couple last winter in AZ that bought a new truck and trailer, after watching you tube videos for years on snowbirding and boondocking. Guess what, they did not enjoy it, they missed thier friends and family😢.

Thank you for this very informative video. My wife and I tried RV life last fall and we failed miserably because we bought the wrong RV. The WORST RV ever. Constant maintenance all the way from NC to TX, NM, and to TN where it eventually died on us. We drove it to a junk yard and rented a Uhaul trailer to attach to our SUV and hauled what we could salvage out of it. Great times and bad times at the same time. However it was the best eye opening experience we have had and my wife still wants to try it again. I am hesitant but I may give in........ after I do proper research and get the RIGHT set up that works best for us! I enjoy you guys channel and I hope to run into you on the road. KEEP THE SCRUBBIES inside too by the way!!!!

As much as we hate to say it, we can see the decline in KZfaq happening before our eyes. The amount of negative videos in each category drawing huge views, the amount of viewers that leave hate comments (we don't get much of those, but tons of other channels do) all point to the same pattern that Myspace fell into. When the audience goes from wanting to be inspired by something to only wanting to see disasters and people fail - that pretty much spells the end of a platform.

Agree about your comment that there have been full timers since before KZfaq. Our family had a seasonal site at a local campground in the 70s and we met a couple based out of Colorado who traveled FT in a 26' Holiday Rambler travel trailer for the husband's job. (I still remember their names but don't ask me what is ate for supper last night). Rving is like a recipe for meatloaf. Same basic ingredients and cooking method but each person adds their own preferred ingredients to make it their own. Not right or wrong, just unique.

I listen to your channel for the difference in perspective you present. Your humorous style is also appealing. I appreciate your message of nuance - RVing is not as extreme as many may have us believe. That said, speciffically on your final "huge" lie, the relative paucity of regulations and standardized data collection in the RV industry permits perception to appear as reality. The "amazin'" stories - are they false? I think not. Personal responsibility is a valid point if someone didn't secure an independent pre-purchase inspection; however, it is not valid when the inspection would not have caught early construction flaws that manifest only after purchase and use.
@liferedesigned

The only things I will say is that 1. All over the country we NEVER see the issues as dramatic as KZfaqrs make it. 2. No prepurshase inspection for us and only minor issues. 3. Why are there never any videos that start with the owner admitting fault. Just because the squeaky wheel gets the grease - does not make it the norm 😀
@raoulroberts
@raoulroberts 4 күн бұрын
@@liferedesigned I respond in order: 1) Your assertion may be true, but drama, like all caps in titles, is a means for KZfaqrs to draw eyeballs to their videos 😉. 2)Thankfully, you are among what I hope is a fortunate majority of RVers. 3) Assuming most of us are honest and responsible, owners who admit fault may not see the need to make a complaint video in the first place. Additionally, they may make a video warning others against similar behavior or recommend alternatives to their viewers as I have seen you done. 😁

Another great video! You answered a few questions I didn't even think about in this one. One thing I'm struggling with is getting a pre-inspection; I mean, I understand that they are important, but in my case I just don't see the benefit of spending $500 (or more) getting an inspection on a camper trailer that's less than $10k (my budget). Also, do you guys think it's feasible to do RVing full-time on a budget of $1500/mo? How are you guys dealing with the heat? It's been in the mid and upper 90s in my neck of the woods quite a bit over the past couple weeks, so I know you're probably seeing 95-100 down there. Stay cool!
@liferedesigned
@liferedesigned 4 күн бұрын
So, this reply is going to seem like a cop out on our end but it is the only way we can respond honestly... your budget will really depend on you and how you want to live. Can it be done? Most likely - but it will take a lot of planning for sure. As for the inspection, on something around $10k - it may not seem like it is worth it but it can depend on your personal knowledge. Ourselves, we did not get a pre-inspection done and our rig was around $40k - Bob has enough knowledge to feel comfortable with that and after 2 years we have not had any major issues. Keep in mind though, If you read through comments whenever we discuss the exaggeration of "poorly built" RV's, we are constantly told we are wrong ... even though we live this life and it has been our experience lol Staying Cool --- yep 97 consistently here in SC and when we are in our rig ... never an issue. We have a Furrion rooftop AC that came stock and it will freeze us out.

I dunno mate. In the video you have campers within feet on all sides. Different strokes for different folks, but we have literally heard folks stroking in the camper next to us, and that is just too many rats in the cage for relaxation. Then when they’re done, they light a fire in their fire pit, which because it is so close to us, smokes us out of our camper. If the nearest camper is within 50 or 60 feet, I’m not a happy camper. State/Dec parks give us that. Even better if a line of trees separate us. A 25 gallon fresh tank in the truck, solar, lithium make it all easier. You do you, but I think calling folks who do it differently a “lie” might be a stretch.
@liferedesigned
@liferedesigned 3 күн бұрын
The lie is about doing it differently- the lie is that Boondockers are better - if you believe your “camping style” makes you a better person than others, you are delusional. On a side note, if you are hearing people “stroking next to you” then maybe instead of all that gear, you should have bought a better insulated RV 🤣🤣

I say do whatever you like and what you can afford. There are many ways to live this lifestyle, and everyone does it differently on whatever budget they have. We're one of those couples who boondock a lot. We do so because that's how we can afford to live this lifestyle. 5 1/2 yrs. ago we retired, sold everything and hit the road like you guys did, but we had to be creative, as all we had was our social security and a small pension. We didn't have a house to sell as we lost that when the government raised our property taxes 1,000% shortly after Hurricane Katrina hit - a double whammy as they say. Yep, we now have a $12k solar system, but we had to put it on a motorhome that's a quarter century old - as that's all we could afford. BTW, we agree, if RVs are made so badly why how are we able to live FT in a 25yr old RV? Some rigs do seem to have their share of warranty issues, but most do not. Remember the rule of journalism - "If it bleeds it leads." We quickly learned the advantages of solar, how much money it could save us and freedom it could give us. So, shortly after our FT adventure started, we designed and built a solar array on the side of our MH while camping in the forest near Flagstaff. We had to make do with a couple old golf cart batteries for a couple years till we could do better. When we had saved enough to get some lithiums, we built them ourselves, learning how and saving money in the process. Necessity is the mother of invention. We're 68 yrs. old now and just finished the rest of our big system. Climbing on the roof to build the rack, clean and coat the roof, and lift our giant 550-watt panels up there without getting blown off ourselves was the most challenging part. But where there's a will there's a way. Now that were done, we can live much cheaper, even when we're not boondocking. For instance, we're staying in an RV park in NC now for only $100/month. Why is it so cheap? Because we're in a non-hook-up site. Sure, it's more work having to dump every couple of weeks, and taking Navy showers to conserve water is more hassle, but we're used to it now. By stretching our limited retirement funds, we don't have to skimp on food. We'll even go out and eat a steak every now and then, when the mood strikes us, so we never feel deprived. And having saved thousands on RV parks we can afford to travel the country, wintering over out west - like we did last year. Life is good. But if we had to pay $1,500 a month for a campsite, we could hardly afford anything else. That's $18k in a single year - way more than you can build a nice solar system for. If we had to pay that, we would be living our senior years in one spot, sitting in front of the boob tube all day, eating beans and spaghetti, and talking about the good ole days. Of course, most don't pay that every month, but some do. Good video. It puts things in balance. BTW, thanks for the props for us vets. Without the sacrifices of better men than I, we would not be enjoying the freedom we have now.

I think you’re wrong about your last huge lie. RV quality is substandard (of course there are no standards) and the RV manufacturers and dealers are taking advantage of poorly informed buyers. The RV’s produced in Indiana are basically all the same. They are all produced by the same work force, use the same cheap suppliers (primarily LCI) for all of the major components, and are managed by the same pool of managers, executives, and owners who move from company to company or start new companies as others fail. Why are there never ending slide issues when slides have been in production for like 20 years now? Why are there frame issues and why are junk suspension components like the standard equalizers still in use? Poke your finger against an interior partition wall and explain why can push the 1/8” thick paneling halfway through to the other side of the wall. I hope that someday there’s a quality reckoning that hits the RV manufacturers like the one that hit the US auto manufacturers in the 1970’s and they have to clean up their act or go out of business.

How can I be wrong expressing my own experience being full time? We are constantly surrounded by full time RVers that NEVER experience issues to the degree blasted on KZfaq. You personally may feel differently BUT that does not make me wrong for my experience.
@TDub_ADV
@TDub_ADV 3 күн бұрын
Honestly who's fault is it? If someone is poorly informed and makes a bad decision is that not their fault? I think it is, full stop. If you don't do your due diligence on both the RV and the dealer that's 100% on you. They did not take advantage of you, you did that to yourself because you were either too lazy or indifferent to do your due diligence. The fact that people also associate "pretty" with quality and are fixated on price does not help either. Do your research before you buy, look beyond the surface and don't make an emotion based decision, that's the bottom line I also think social media is somewhat to blame. Certain brands get hype by the "influencers" and people seem to eat it up. Two years ago everyone was fawning over GD and i literally saw people at the Tampa show walking around saying " these must be the grand designs" when they were looking at Riverstones. Its like they were brainwashed by social media. Brinkley seems to be on that path today and no they are not truly " better" as the hype would lead you to believe. In my opinion they are Grand Design 2.0. That said we also full time and our experience is more in line with what Bob and Karri are expressing based off their experience. I did my research, did factory tours, crawled around in countless RV's from all brands and when it came to buying our 5th wheel I focused on the stuff under the covers and we bought the brand with the beefiest frame in the industry that also has a thick hung wall, good roof construction, and no mdf , osb, or fallaparticle board anywhere. Is it perfect? hell no, its built by humans. Perfection does not exist, neither do unicorns.... Have had to fix stuff? Yep sure have but nothing even remotely major. Have I had some stuff fixed that I probably should not have? Yep and the "inspection" we had didn't catch any of it. I did and the manufacturer and dealer made it right to my satisfaction without hesitation, most of it pre-delivery and most of it minor stuff that was easy to fix. For me the professional inspection was a waste of money. Everything they found I would have on my own inspection and I found stuff they did not right off the bat. I'm a detail oriented person and also very picky so I'm not shocked. I will say the punch list I had when i bought this RV was significantly smaller than the one I had on my last house purchase. I have spent some time doing quite a few things to my rig but mainly mods to make it ours so we can live the way we want to vs fixing stuff. If I had a do-over we would be in the same rig bought from the same dealer. I would not change a thing.
@petergoeman7814
@petergoeman7814 3 күн бұрын
I don’t think you should victim blame the RV buyers. RV manufacturers and dealers consistently represent the product to be better than it really is and there are no standards whatsoever for insuring at least a minimum quality level that will help protect the customer after the sale. Auto manufacturers have reliability and safety standards they have to meet, clothing and bedding manufacturers have flammability standards they have to meet, household appliances have CE tests and standards, etc., etc. The RV industry only has the RVIA standards which are basically nonexistent. The RVIA is nothing more than a lobbying group working to protect the manufacturers interests.
@TDub_ADV

@@petergoeman7814 Victim shaming? Really? How about people take some level of personal responsibility for their bad choices. Anyone that makes what one would consider a major purchase without doing their research and knowing what they are buying is not a victim, in reality they are a fool that made a poor choice. Saying these people are “victims” is like saying it’s McDonalds fault a person is obese, not the choice they made to eat there multiple times a week when 5 min of research would tell you that is a poor choice.

I get it, you are trying to get views. I think you are a little naive about your #10 'lie' though. There is a serious problem with quality of the RVs, and the service you get from dealers. Nice video but Bob, would you quit interrupting your wife. Its irritating. The segment in the pool area. She was talking and you flat out come up behind her and cut her off. At least let her finish her sentence.

Hi, this is Karri - sorry you were irritated by our video and the fun we had shooting it - That segment was done EXACTLY as I requested it - not every woman needs rescuing.

I thought it looked planned out and scripted to be playful.

You are 100% correct! No different that me calling for Bob when he was on the lounge chair - I CLEARLY know where my husband is/was. Some people just have an agenda. Ironically the comments like this are usually a dump and go and never reply back when they are called out. If / When they do reply it is usually with an insult or name calling. So we screenshot these and have them in a file for an upcoming video lol Thank YOU for watching the video and realizing what it ACTUALLY was - we appreciate you! Karri life redesigned
