I don't want to judge, but briefly tell my story. When I turned one year old, my parents decided to move with me to Germany. They wanted to give me the opportunity to live as a child should live - without fear, with my own decisions, curious, open, and also to see the world with critical eyes.Today, 18 years later, I can only thank them and this fantastic country. Of course, there were and will always be problems and not everything is perfect, but in the end I lead a pretty pleasant life.I see the world with open eyes,I am critical and do not believe everything a government or the media want to tell me,but form my own opinion with the help of other sources. When I got the opportunity to get German citizenship, I did not make it easy for myself, but thought very carefully about which society represents values that I can share. I have been German for several months now and am proud of it!

The funny thing about being proud of being German or any other nationality is: If you happen to be born in the country, it's just a coincidence. You did nothing for it, so there's nothing to be proud of. But if you choose to immigrate, learn a new language, get used to a different culture - take a test and succeed in proving yourself "suitable" for your new country - *that's* really something to be proud of! I can't imagine taking this bold step and I truly appreciate your dedication for doing so! 👍 In other words: Welcome to Germany! 👋🙂

All the rights that we now have, as western European workers, have been fought for by our (great) grandparents, parents and ourselves. Fought not with weapons, but by organizing ourselves and putting pressure on politics. We have some big unions and if they work together they can shut down half the country. And they have done that several times. If you want more rights, then you have to organize yourselves and fight for your rights; not with force but with words and put pressure where pressure is needed. I hear everyone put the blame on politics, but you vote for these people yourself. When will you modern slaves take responsibility for themselves? You let yourselves be led like sheep to the slaughter. Sorry for the harsh wording, but it's time for you to wake up and join a union. Together you are always stronger!

We have nightmare-scenarios in our heads about the US over here. All the mass-shooting-news make it over the pond. Your own culture-exports shows us that you can not get a education if you are not ready to burden yourself with debt, or are rich in the first place. This two-party-system the US has is, in my opinion, the main reason why US politics are so messed up. We Germans have a parliamentary system which is largely Based on the idea of coalition. A coalition is basically the process of two parties Working together in Order to achieve the mayority of the votes in the parliament. They Establish a coalition treaty, in which the rules for this coalition are written Down. A huge Benefit of this system is that almost all parties can find Common ground. Our parties here dont see each other as enemies, but simply as colleagues with Different opinions. Hope tue US would have the same system.

The interesting thing I discovered just recently was that gun laws in the Wild Wild West were much much stricter than they are currently. In many towns on the east coast you had to turn in your guns at the armory. You recieved a chit for each of your guns, and ONLY were handed back your guns once you left the town. In addition to that the sale of black/gun powder was rigorously controlled. In several frontier towns it was PROHIBITED for anyone who was not in a militia to carry ANY kind of gun, period. Militia were exactly that: controlled military units, under command of military officers, forced into training regularly, usually at least TWICE a week, in riding and firearms practice. After that even then the guns were again stored in the armory, not at home. Militia members were only handed out guns when there was a need for them. The number of deaths in the Whiat Earp era with guns were much lower per 100 000 than they are today. As such the wild west, despite its movie claims of being this outlaw, freedom loving time, was much more lawful than today. Only the NRA still spouts that BS about 'every citizens rights to carry guns at all times...' because they get great cutbacks from their gun-producing buddies. Welcome to Germany, Nate, no matter how long it will take. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting something better for you and your family. I completely understand your reasoning. I wish you and yours all the best of luck in finding both a job, and a home here as soon as possible. Check out the Life in Germany channel with Jenna. She has an awesome welcome package offering loads of tips and support for anyone interested in emmigrating from their country to Germany. Like many said, in Europe things are also not flawless and there is still a whole lot of work to do, but as long as the people keep their heads up and watch the politicians I would always choose to live in the EU any day than in the US.

How to fix it? Well, 500 passionate teachers, a school and 30 years of teaching making 450000 well educated students to become teachers, politicians, cops, news anchors and whatever else, but first making their parents understand why their child needs education and why they should stop the police guard from entering 1km radius of the building him or any other armed personnel. They don't need to all be in one place to succeed. you need some better news, social media news plus state(corporate) media news ruined traditional un(less)biased news, the double edged sword of free speech you get people who want book burning and censorship to scream when you try revoking their right to speak about how good censorship is, the good old "Nazi bar" dilemma. You either have some censorship or FULL censorship, uncontrolled freedom of speech is an illusion you see for a year or two and everything goes downhill the moment you get one person to talk louder than everyone else.

Right now I'm working in logistics and am a team leader with a company contracted by Amazon. I'm willing to do any of these, but I also love learning new things. The problem with the US and US citizens, they believe all the hype about the US, a bygone era that lived in 1950 and died in 1980. A thirty year legacy that is 40 years dead. The US Constitution and Bill of Rights are legacy documents based in foundation in the British Bill of Rights, of which are out of date. Jefferson wanted the US Constitution to be renewed every 20 years to keep up to date with current movements, political and social. 200 years later the US struggles to move forwards as the US continues to hold the US Constitution as sacred, a holly document, of which its not, to make US a backwards place. My recommendations. 1. Get rid of the SCOTUS, its redundant and more like a Royal court with lifelong power. 2. Get rid of the Bill of Rights, make amendments. 3. Get rid of the filibuster, its power to the minorities party. 4. Get rid of the Senate and make it a Bill checking system and not have legislator controls. Other than that move out of the US.

Most importantly, they have to replace the "The winner takes all" majority voting system with a mixed-member-proportion system (like in Germany or New Zealand) or a preference-based system (like in the Netherlands). This would break the two-party system, it would prevent gerrymandering and it would open the possibility for real changes. A transition to a semi-presidential system like in France is also possible.

As for looking for a job: Consider contacting the Personnel specialists / headhunters companies such as Ferchau or Hays. They're a good start. As for the abortion ruling: When the US Government makes abortions illegal, basically, I'd expect them to take over full healthcare for the child and potentially the mother also. They don't, right? Well, that then is truly a 3rd world country performance there or, as you say: "They do not care." - That much for Christian values.

As for the abortions, I'm from Germany, and as far as I understand it, Scotus didn't ban abortion, it just gave back to the individual states the choice of whether or not to have an abortion. So nothing changes in blue states regarding abortions. And in red states, voters can decide whether or not to allow abortions. Exactly how it should be done in a democracy. Also, as far as I know, the right to abortion isn't mentioned at all in the US Constitution, but the right to keep and bear guns is.

For a long time I didn't understand why the US politics are like that. It made no sense. Then it clicked. And it is really hard to explain. American politics are not about mutual benefits or making things better in general. It is about punishing those that are not on your political/ideological spectrum. It was really hard to wrap my head around this. The concept that both sides can gain something does not seem to exist there. It is "us or them". All this talk about "winning" is a glaring example of that. For one side to win the other side must loose. Even if there is no net benefit for the "winning" side. As long as / only if the the other side loses / is punished / etc it is seen as a "win". And that seems to be all that matters. It feels something like a conversation along these lines: Political supporter asks their representative "Can you make things better for us?" and the politician answers "No, but I can make things worse for everyone else." to which the supporter replies "Fair enough." This is a very short summary of the concept but when I noticed this way of thinking american politics and culture suddenly made a lot more sense.

Dear Nate, Hayley is 100% correct just as you are. The United States used to be the beacon of freedom, human rights, enlightenment - but they aren't any more. I still remember the disagreements among the members of the Bundestag in the early 1970ies about §218 (Abortion). The politicians discussed and quarreled - within their parties as the trenches ran between their menbers. [There was a very vocal group in the media demanding the complete right for abortion up to 12 weeks - there even was a cover of Stern magazine with dozens of female celebrities with the title "Yes, I had an abortion". It was one of the most controversial political topics in the past 50 years.] As the parties themselves couldn't find consensus, they decided to relieve the MdBs of their "faction discipline" (when the faction agrees on a policy all members have to vote accordingly, regardless of their opinion) and so we got a no for "unlimited" abortion and a no for abortion up to certain point in the pregnancy but a solution where cases of rape, endangerment of the life of the mother, and severe malformation of the baby were permitted without restraints, and abortion because of "social matters" (low income, teenage pregancies and the like) until 12 weeks. But all pregnant women had to have a consultation about the matter (with a church institution or independent institution), where the women learned everything about the possible aid the government or charities would provide. But the decision has been hers and hers alone. Yes, you're right. Once the dust because of abortion has settled, they will attack gay marriage, and maybe interracial marriage (in some states). It reminds me of Germany in the 1930ies. First the Nazis persecuted leftists (communists and social democrats), they imprisoned gay men, Sinti and Roma, then they introduced racial laws (first prohibting marriages between "Arians" and "jews", later forcing divorces on public servants and other public figures (e.g. actors). And everybody was "thank God it's them not us" until they themselves landed in the camps. A person's freedom isn't worth a sh*te, if the person doesn't defend everybody else's freedom. CU twinmama PS: The "joke" is no joke. The United States of America is a 3rd world country. A rich one, but 3rd world nontheless.

@Syrious_ Kash It seriously was for Europe, esp. for us Germans. With the significant help of the UK and its Commonwealth and the Soviet Union, the US defeated the Nazis. They ensured a functioning democracy in West Germany and protected us from the threat the Soviet Union became after WW2. That has been our perspective. Most Europeans consumed Hollywood's movies and TV series without a clue that there were racial problems within the US. The US abolished slavery in 1863, so problem solved - or so we thought. Only over time, we realised that the great US was a hypocritical shit-show. E.g. I didn't know about the prohibition of interracial marriage until the 1960ies in some states well into the 1990ies - despite I have always been interested in history and politics. But before the internet, some information was hard to come by.

@Syrious_ Kash I agree with your POV and I'm glad your experience living in Germany was a pleasant one. Germany is not without fault regarding racism. Most people have a certain bias and I admit I'm guilty of this too (after having had good/bad experiences with people from different backgrounds), but I always remind myself to not judge a person by their nationality. Many people are not happy with the Turkish population bc of the huge cultural differences. But since the arrival of so many Syrian and North-African refugees, the ire of those people shifted to them instead and away from the Turkish. It's so funny. When I was in Kindergarten age (3-5), my best friend was Italian, and later (after we moved) the parents of my friends used derogatory words for immigrants from the Mediterranean (I couldn't understand why as in my family those terms were forbidden) but you hardly hear them anymore. Later followed the same attitude towards seasonal workers from Poland, nowadays that the Poles stay home and the seasonal workers come from Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria, it's the same all over again and people grieve for them not to be like the Poles. It's stupid but there are stupid people everywhere.

It will take 3 years and it splits into 28 hours per week, in a living group for children from 6-18 years old, and into 11 hours per week of school work. Even though its "just" an apprenticeship I will get paid a bit over 1k€ per month that increases up to 1.3k€ per month the further the duration. And after I'm done with the apprenticeship I can expect to start with 3k€ per month on a 40 hour per week schedule. It could always be more, but with that kind of money I can easily survive here and have some savings on top. Well, now it only has to be a good time and all is well :D The great thing about it is that I will always get a job having that qualification. I am sorry to say this but looking at the whole issue about freedoms in USA as a non-American, it seems to me that most of the freedoms Americans lose are due to themselves voting for the wrong people to govern their country. It is obviously a sensitive subject, but if you want to develop, you have to realize that voting for politicians who want to dial America back in time is not progress. One of the problems about understanding what is possible is actually that a majority of Americans never try leave USA for a number of years to get some real life experience living somewhere else, such as Europe. The common opinion about Europe by Americans is that Europe is socialistic. Well, Europe is in many ways even more capitalistic than USA. The main difference between European and American culture is that Europeans focus more on work, life balance than Americans do. Access to free healthcare and education should be a human right for all. The way to get this is to understand that freedom is worthless without responsibility. The responsibility is that you understand that some citizens are born with or develop conditions of no fault of their own which put them in a position where they may not be able to hold a full time job or to work at all. It is the responsibility of everybody else to ensure that these unfortunate people are cared for as well. That is what it means to be human and that is why everybody pays a higher tax in Europe so ensuring everybody no matter background has access to healthcare and education. When access to higher education is not free, you lose out on the potential among highly intelligent citizens from poor households. In USA, Americans basically live to work while in Europe, Europeans work to live.

@@DidierWierdsma6335 Nah I'm from the uk. Divided states is a good way to put it. So you have a nation with polar opposite political ideologies and essentially everyone is armed. That could end well. On a serious note, the problem with the u.s is the extreme capitalism, capitalism is good for economy but you need a mix of socialism and capitalism like we have in europe.

Wow....this is the best description of an American citizen , Hayley Alexis, of what is happening right now in the US. It is mind-bogling!!! I hope that change is gonna come, though it doesn't look like it. I get the feeling that many want to leave, since those who are living abroad allready make it clear how much better life is in Europe or elsewhere in the world, compared to the US. And Nate... I hope you will soon be able to follow your dream to pack-up and move to Germany with your family. I wish you and your loved ones good health, and strenght to endure the culture shock you must be experiencing now! Greetings from the Netherlands

Hi Nate Nice video again! I love the idea of you coming to Europe, you are most welcome here! Here in the Netherlands we have about 150 open vacancies per 100 unemployed people and it is not far from Germany as you know. I don't know how this is in Germany but i would guess it is quite the same. Everyone speaks English and most speak German here as well. Dutch is quite difficult to learn though. But the grass is not always greener at the other side. There is also a lot of corruption and modern slavery in Europe. So you could look into that as well before you make your decision. Peace.

35 years ago, I have learned in school about America...Taxes are low, because the local industry feels automatically responsible for the region and will finance local open air baths, culture and a lot of other needs for the society. It seems this changes because of your "freedom"...? I think in our days the freedom is only for the rich and their greed. And This is why I´m proud of my country Germany. In the end Germany will never leave there citizens alone. What is a "rich" country worth, if they are not able to take care...You MUST live at there rules, and WHAT do you get BACK? 🙂

John F. Kennedy put it in a nutshell: “Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what YOU can DO for your COUNTRY”. This may sound fantastic to some people, but if you read the statement between the lines, the true American intent becomes clear: the individual citizen matters nothing, it doesn't matter if people are well off. You are worth nothing. The first article of the German Basic Law (= constitution) states: (1) Human dignity is inviolable. To respect and protect them is the obligation of all state power. (2) The German people therefore professes inviolable and inalienable human rights as the basis of every human community, of peace and justice in the world. There is no such law anywhere in the US Constitution. Rights are granted, but the government determines who can exercise these rights.

@@noneofyourbiss2142 I am a political animal by nature, but also suffer with depression. Consequently, I have out of necessity, chosen to ignor British politics almost entirely for some time. I see the suffering and inequality, and take it all too personally. It hurts. I am a socialist, and the British Labour Partys' complete abandonment of any socialist principles several years ago was the last straw. Many on the "left" now have no political home in the UK. So, I've now transfered my political interests across the Atlantic, to the USA, where the politics is far more entertaining and has less of an immediate and depressing effect on me. I'm currently engaged in watching the Republican Party destroy itself for fear of the despicable Trump - great fun! Your question - The only difference I can observe between Johnson and Truss, is that Johnson has been proved an inveterate and frequent liar, whereas Truss has yet to be tested. I'm afraid the miniscule policy differences are of no interest to me. The poor will remain poor.

The USA are steadily declining to the levels of a third world banana republic. In every aspect. High incarceration, high crime rate due to inexistance of sensible gun laws, no affordable health care (unless tied to your employer), no (or very weak) social security, crumbling infrastructure, low education standards, abortion laws, environmental standards, etc., etc. Not really the leader of the free world, is it?… caused by the ineffective two-party system. The two parties seem to concentrate on blocking each other rather than bringing the country forward. Republicans (as every right party all over the world) do a very poor job in working for the benefit of the people. And the people gobble up all the bullshit they‘re being told by Fox News and believe, that the USA are number one… what a shame. Why are Americans putting up with all this shit?

Every day I am even happier to have been born in Europe. Sure, some things could be better here as well and every country has room for improvement, but what is happening in the US hopefully wont ever happen here. As you said in the beginning how you dont care what beliefs someone has...I dont care either. Everyone has the right to believe in what he or she wants BUT there needs to be an option for women. Legal abortion DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO DO IT, it just gives women an option and a safe medical care, which is the most important part of all of it. I was raised catholic and I personally distanced myself from church, but I cant blame all of them for their beliefs what I can do is when others try to force their beliefs and opinions on me and others. The world these days is as connected as never before and a lot of places are sooooo mixed that you cant base every law on one religion. Thats also a reason why I could never live in certain muslim countries which have laws like that or even worse. Laws that are just inhumane regardless of the religion or regime. I HATE it when people use the religion, that in itself isnt bad, for their own purposes and agendas and bad things. Be it war, be it for abortion, same sex marriage, whatever it may be. I REALLY HATE IT. Those people are sick fanatics, that is the whole problem. Fanatics make it really harder to live a normal life. I dont mind if there are certain procedures before the abortion can be done, like having conversations, stuff like that just to be sure that this is what the women really wants. Rape and incest are no small things and not to allow these to be at least some reasons for an abortion is really cruel. I as a woman dont understand that. I really dont. During history women always were seen as less and idk why it has to continue even in the 21.st, especially in the developed world. I bet there are some 3rd world countries which are more social than the US is.

In Roe vs Wade the Supreme Court was constrained by the way the question was phrased. Federal vs State. The question should have been "Does the law have any place at all in deciding whether an individual abortion should take place ??" Obviously, the answer is a resounding "NO".
