This is great to watch! I’m a white belt so I look forward to the days where I really develop some skill where I can cruise through rolls some days. Still at that “fight for my life” point lol

The narration of the techniques during video editing instead of during rolling is terrific.

these are making me very happy. One, one of the "old guys" at the gym has included me before "us old guys" (I'm a 28 year old female with an old soul). He's also one of my absolute favorite people to work with or around because he gives me an opportunity to work, like you mentioned. Also, loved seeing you work with a female and also giving me an idea of how I could use some of my own flexibility as part of my game in the future.

Fantastic roll and narration. You give an insight to what your doing and looking for an what they are doing and trying to accomplish. I see what to look out for and to prevent in my game.

Excellent rolling. It is great to see you letting your students move, but at the same time, reminding them of the weaknesses in their game. Keep it up!

I just discovered you after a very rough and a bit humiliating time in my Jiu Jitsu class. I was starting to questioning myself and how I train or in general approach my life, my job, my hobbies. And I have to say.... I just watched two videos of you and suddenly understand what the solution to everything is that was heavily residing on my shoulders. For the people who are curious...I watched "How to get better at BJJ faster" and this one. Many many thanks to you! Greetings from Germany

Loving this series, not just as 45 year old but the idea of reducing energy output with smaller/newer partners. Going slower with less force allows opportunities to work on techniques. I like to try the new techniques with the greener guys who aren’t so dangerous. Oftentimes the jacked white belts put me in a very cautious defensive position. You never know what they are going to do.

Grip tap saved my fingers. And sanity. Tapeing my fingers three times a week was driving me insane. I love the type of rolls you show here. I usually only can have these with older purple belts up or some ladies. A lot of white belts just see my blue belt and try to get a tap...

I started BJJ nearly 25 years ago and it was a club setting and everyone was a former wrestler (with a few Judo BB). As in wrestling, we went 100% 100% of the time. There are some good reason and benefits to that type of training (very physical wrestlers trying to beat the crap out of you) but today I think that you can often learn better if you train at 70%. Of course as you get better and better and relax more and more much of this will happen naturally.

11:06 just as you were about to say it, you can see that guy has had wrestling exposure by the way he uses a C grip from the outside to grab your wrist.

Great video Professor. I am a newly promoted blue belt and I am 46 years old. I appreciate your candor and approach to the art. I have a question. My gym doesn't require demonstrations as I have seen on your channel and on Professor Roy Dean's channel. I am interested in how you train for those types of demonstrations? I understand the cardio and prep for the gut check shark tank rolls. What I am asking about is the prep for the skill demo. I really appreciate how the demo emphasizes the techniques and the sequence of movement required for the corresponding belt level. Do you distribute an expected curriculum for the demo to your students? What is the typical preparation time for the creation and refinement of each demo? Does your gym work on the process of preparing the demo for the students? Being a physics professor in my professional life I see the value in the demonstration of skill to justify the promotion. My BJJ professors test us each and every class and are always evaluating us, especially when we roll together and when they watch us roll with upper ranks in the gym. Do you have any advice for me to use in my journey as I wallow through the blue belt blues over the next several years? Thank you in advance and please keep producing the incredible content.

Always a great video! So many videos out there that don’t show counter escapes or some resistance. Can I ask what you are wearing on your fingers? I tape mine due to pain and a recent hyper extension injury. It looks like a sleeve of some sort or device. Not sure if it was just tape. Thanks

Nice work... i have a question. I recently dislocated a pinky finger (3 weeks ago) and I'm wonder what you wrap your fingers with.? Looks like something other than tape. I recently purchased grappz off Amazon but I'm curious if there's a better way. Thanks for the content

I use tape, but sometimes I wear a neoprene sleeve in addition to tape. Check out lutagear.com.

I dislocated my pinky last year. After 3 weeks, I used tape over the immobilizer, and gripped a tennis ball. When it was able to take some impact, I buddy wrapped it with Coban.

Hey Rick, beautiful roll. I got a bit of a dilemma! What would you do about a girlfriend who detests bjj because me having to sometimes roll with women (which i have no problem with)? She has even seen and tried bjj herself. Cant stand arguements every night lol.

Life's too short to argue over insecurities. Bitterness for one of you will be the only end result. I would say part ways and avoid a lot of negativity that results from this problem. Good luck.
