We are pretty lucky here in Nova Scotia. We have abundant beaches, forests, lakes, rivers and even mountains. Nova Scotia's South Shore is abundant in beautiful, white sand beaches and coastal beauty. We made a trip to Beach Meadows, a beach we have not been to before. It is a great, family and dog friendly beach with accessible washrooms and beach access. There is ample parking in multiple areas along the beach, as well as trash receptacles. The beach itself has white sand and some neat rock formations you can walk onto. It's the perfect scenic stroll, and you actually might forget you are in Canada between the white sand and blue water.
A short drive up the road we stumbled upon Horse Head Rock. Named for the obvious reason, it looks like a stone horse's head sticking out of the water. There is a small pull off spot with an informational sign here.
On the way back we left the coast and headed deep into the woods up highway 8. This road takes you across the middle of Nova Scotia, and into some of the most beautiful hemlock forests. We stoped at what seems to be a possibly abandoned provincial park, but what a gem with lake access and towering trees. And no trip up highway 8 is complete without a stop at Kejimkujik National Park, a favourite place of ours. The park offers lush forests, lakes, flowing rivers and a waterfall. Mill Falls is close to the entrance to the park and is easy to access. The Mersey River was very full the day we visited and the falls were raging. Take a walk along the river and you may find a set of Parks Canada's famous red Red Chairs.
The variety of beautiful landscape Nova Scotia has to offer, just a short distance away from each other is something truly special.
