I watched your Tuesday Morning haul video, and this video was suggested for me. I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. I love the look of the foil and all the gorgeous colors but simply don't have the money to invest in a MINC machine. I'm so happy that I can now incorporate foiling into some of my work. THANK YOU for the awesome tutorial. I'm now off to learn about the 7 other ways to apply transfer foil without a machine.

I paid $16 at Walmart for a laminator and it works great. I also bought some toner from Amazon. I mixed the toner with glue and made a toner paint. You can draw and paint with it, let it dry and use the iron or the laminator to add foil! It works perfectly!

I started with YuDu foil (for Provo Craft's screen printing machine) and that's how I found the techniques I used in my first video....7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts Without A Machine. Later I learned about the laser printer but didn't have one....got one finally....and luckily I have a YourStory laminator but wanted to show that an iron works for those that don't have a laminator. jjgz4ever I'm not sure if I told you this or not, but you can use a glue pen writer but wait for it to dry and run through the laminator or iron. If you have a stamp you really like you can trace it with glue pen let it dry and then apply the foil or if you have pretty handwriting you can trace it with your glue pen. I learned this from Jennifer McGuire. Bye Hun.

Thank you for the ideas on using foils. Thank you for sharing. What kind of iron is best for this?
@janiethecraftprincess
@janiethecraftprincess 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching.....I see you watched one of my other videos on transfer foil. I actaully have several videos on using transfer foil (Deco Foil).....I hope you check them all out. As for what kind of iron is best for this......the answer would be any good iron. I have used a full-size iron (but mine is old and I'm not sure it the greatest).....I have used a small craft iron (they usually don't have heat settings)......and I would have to say for smaller projects my favorite is the Clover Mini Iron II - The Adapter Set (it comes with several attachments) and it has different heat settings. However I happen to have a t-shirt press which I like best for applying to fabric, but a full-size iron works good too. So basically it depends on what you are doing.....size etc....but whatever iron you have should work. Talking about fabric.....I hope you watch my video on applying the foil to fabric....I think you will like it :) Hugs...Janie

When the Minc was first released, I had to have it, it's not the big one, but that's ok since I don't really foil much or make anything larger tan card size anyway! I love the iron option, what a great idea since the Minc is pricey. I also heard fairly recently (about a year ago) to use a fuffy make-up brush to dust off your laser images before you foil them. That helps not get any extra foil where it shouldn't go! A lot like using a lint roller on your fabric before sublimating. Anyway, thanks for these great ways to foil! ❤
@janiethecraftprincess
@janiethecraftprincess 2 жыл бұрын
The make-up brush is a great idea. As for the Minc machine......I don't own won, I never saw the reason. But I do have a laminator and that works great. And we bought a laser printer for some craft projects and office work, but didn't buy it for this even though it came in handy until it stopped responding. But the pre-printed toner sheets are nice for those that don't have a laser printer and want to do stuff like this. However my favorite ways to use foil are still the thechniques that don't need a machine or heat 😊💗🤗 Hugs....Janie
@GettinBye1
@GettinBye1 2 жыл бұрын
@@janiethecraftprincess when I bought the Minc it was during a time in my life where I was collecting and not really creating - which is a completely inappropriate reason to buy stuff. I have since become smarter! I have used the Minc a few times, certainly not as much as I should have and I have to agree with you about the non-heat options and the reason is that there seems to be so many more options to getting that foil to your projects that a heat machine just can't do (like the stencils). I also have a laser printer and not utilize it enough! I think you have been inspiring for me reviving a lot of the craft items that I have and have had for years to start using again. Thanks for being an amazing crafter and YT person! I just love ya ta bits!!! Xo

@janiethecraftprincess 2 жыл бұрын
@@GettinBye1 I'm so happy my videos are inspiring you 😊 The awesome thing about the non-heat no machine methods are that you can apply foil to things that can't go through a Minc machine or laminator or other foiling machines. Machines limit it to flat flexable items......but with the other techniques you can add to dimensional objects like jars, frames and other fun things 😊💗🤗 Hugs.....Janie

It just a craft mat I think I got from Ranger.....or it could be a different one....BUT....it is teflon and the same thing used with heat press to protect the fabric. Craft mats are made from the same stuff, teflon, because it's non-stick. Here is a link to some on Amazon for great price ($7.99 for 3 large sheets). www.amazon.com/Teflon-Sheets-Press-Transfers-Resistant/dp/B06ZZB2BPR/ref=sr_1_21?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1525721050&sr=1-21&keywords=craft+mat And here is a link to the samething from Ranger....2 smaller sheets for 5x the cost www.amazon.com/RANGER-NSC20677-15-Inch-18-Inch-Inkssentials/dp/B0774ZJHK2/ref=sr_1_2?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1525721297&sr=1-2&keywords=ranger%2Bcraft%2Bmat&th=1 You can decide but they are both teflon sheets and great craft mats :) Hugs...Janie

I have the couture creations heat press foil and I have a mini press, would I use the iron method with that?

I honestly have no idea. I only shared the iron method as an option, I personally don't use it. I mostly use the techniques that I share in other videos that don't require any machines or heat at all, and when I do need to use an option that requires heat I use my laminator. I know nothing about Couture Creations heat press foil. And since you said you have a mini press (guessing that's a heat press) you can always try that. But if you want to learn other ways to use transfer foil, I have other videos and you can find them all in my Playlists.....the playlist is called Deco Foil Transfer Foil Techniques. @janiethecraftprincess

As stated in the video, it is printed with a Laser printer and not an inkjet printer. There is something about the black ink from a laser printer that the foil will cling to when heated. However if you would like to learn how to foil without having to use a laser printer or laminator, I have 2 videos that might be of interest to you. 7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts - WITHOUT A MACHINE!!! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h8Wdf8Wcvtq3p2g.html And.....5 More Ways To Use Deco Foil WITHOUT A MACHINE! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ncChd7yYmsnboZs.html I hope my answer has helped, and I hope you find the other videos helpful. LOL....Kelly this video is a year old and I had to watch it all the way through so I would know what you're talking about. The only thing that might be a "heart image" would be on the sheet I showed at the very beginning but didn't use in the video (unless I missed it). Being that it was a year ago I have no idea where that image came from. I have hundreds, maybe thousands, of digital images and rarely use the same one twice. I actually looked through some trying to find that for you and didin't find it but saw many images I had forgotten I had. I'm sure you can find many cool heart images if you just look. Also, if you haven't already watched 7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts Without A Machine I think you would like it.....and I also have a video series Fun With Deco Foil.....and a video on applying transfer foil to fabric (and it's washable). Is the foil paper reacting to heat or does it need some adhesive to it? Did you just cover your print out ones and then iron or did you have to put adhesive on it and let it dry?
@janiethecraftprincess
@janiethecraftprincess 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. To answer your question....as you can see by watching this video, no adhesive was used. I do however have another video on applying transfer foil that uses a variety of adhesives (link is above). In this video I'm sharing a method that uses pre-printed (laser printed) cardstock and also images that I laser printed myself. There is something about laser printed images that the transfer foil adheres to when heated by an iron or put through a laminator. For future information.....I will always show each step so you don't have ask questions like this. Watching the video you never saw me use any adhesive or talk about adhesives....so there were no adhesives involved. I just want you to know that in case you watch other videos of mine, you will then know that I didn't leave out anything important :) Hugs...Janie

When applying the deconl foil do all backgrounds have to black based.? Or can it be white.?
@janiethecraftprincess
@janiethecraftprincess 4 жыл бұрын
From you question it appears you did not listen to or understand this video. For this particular application the Deco Foil adheres to laser printed images. Since there is no white ink for any printer then there is no ink for it to adhere to if it's white. And since the foil covers the image then I'm not sure why you would care if it is black or white because it won't show. I think you need to watch this video again and this time actually pay attention. If this is not the application you are lookking for then maybe you might be more interested in what is in my other video "7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts WITHOUT A MACHINE"

Thank you so much for all these excellent tutorials . I have 2 questions, Yesterday I bought a “glimmer plate” thinking it was a cutting die, when I read it was to use with a hot foil system (no idea about that). Looking in KZfaq I found you(thanks God) and became interesting. I have seen so far 4 great tutorials. My questions now: can I use that plate as a cutting die with my cuttlebug ? And then use the foil on top of the image with the iron or laminator? If so, what is the order of plates on the cuttlebug? I’m afraid to ruin my machine. 2. Can I use any designed paper (commercial) and put the foil on it to make it sparkle? I will appreciate all your expertise, lot of blessings. .

So with that said.....I'm sorry but I can't give you any advice or tips on using the "glimmer plate" or hot foil system. That is a completely different type of foil and has a special machine to use the "plates" with. I don't own any and have never tried it. There is also a special heat tool for your Cricut if you use that type of foil. But transfer foil (Deco Foil, etc) is different and can be used with or without heat. But back to your question.....I have no idea if you can use the "glimmer plate" as a cutting die or if you can use it with an iron......however I would NOT try putting it through a laminator, I think that would be a disaster. If you want to use the "glimmer plate" you will need to buy the foiling system that goes with it and the type of foil that it works with. If you want to use transfer foil you can use that with your laminator or without as shown in my videos. There are links in my video description boxes to where you can get the foil. Good luck :) Hugs....Janie

@@xiomaraluciano9557 You can foil on anything you want and any paper / cardstock you want. Without using a machine I have foiled on all kinds of home decor projects. I even have a video on how to foil on fabric and it's washable. I have foiled on napkin crafting projects and more. If you use the laminator method you can only foil things that fit through the laminator like paper or cardstock. Did you print your own designs on regular paper or cardstock? What kind of surface did you iron on?
@janiethecraftprincess
@janiethecraftprincess 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry I didn't see your comment sooner. I use my laser printer to print on both copy paper and cardstock....whatever my needs are...but mostly cardstock. I use a firm surface to iron on......and I make sure it is a safe surface that can handle the heat. I usually have my teflon craft mat under what I'm doing.. And you didn't ask but most people want to know what heat setting to use for their iron and my answer to that is, it depends on the iron you are using but typically a high setting. You will have to experiment with your iron to find out how hot and how long (just in case you were going to ask that later). With laminators being so inexpensive now days I suggest looking into getting one if you want to do this a lot. Sharon there are so many variables.....were you using images you printed yourself with a laser printer or were you using Foil Mates? What brand of transfer foil did you use (I am not pleased with MINC brand at all)? What setting was your iron at and how long did you iron? I have never heard of or seen it "transfer back"....can't even imagine how that is possible as it does not stick to other things except laser printing or adhesives (as in my video "7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts - WITHOUT A MACHINE"...or other adhesives. Thank you for explaining. It appears from your explanation that you thought you were doing me a favor and didn't realize I already have a laminator and the purpose (as the title says) was show ways to use transfer foil without a machine. That was very thoughtful of you, but my viewers had asked me to show ways to craft that don't require special tools because a lot of them are beginners or can't afford craft tools even if they seem inexpensive to some of us. I pretty much have craft tools for every need I might I have....but I even try to show card folds that can be done without a scoring board even though I think everyone should have one I realize that everyone doesn't. I like showing ways of upcycling to save money, and I usually don't walk people through the decorating process because I don't want them to feel they need everything I have, I want then to use what THEY have. It's just who I am....and who most of my viewers are...and I do my best to not scare them off with things they don't have. Janie - The Craft Princess Thank you Janie, I’m a real beginner in the art of foiling, card making etc. I just purchased a embossing machine (Poppycraft) so I’m still learning how to use that as well 😆. I was just trying to find out how to get all of these images for cards to print out (I have a laser printer) and to foil. I just love the way you teach because oldies like me need all the help they can get especially since I have just started crafting now that I’m retired. I have always been interested in crafts but never got a chance (work, work, work) to do it. Watching your video tutorials have been really great and helpful. Many thanks.

I enjoyed this video, but for most of these you were using a machine....I am a bit confused...was the iron the no machine part?
@janiethecraftprincess
@janiethecraftprincess 6 жыл бұрын
Yes as far as I'm concerned an iron is not a "machine" like a laminator or MINC machine, and most people own one so it's not like they have to go buy something special to use transfer foil. Also the other "no machine" part was the pre-printed Foil Mates which are nice for those people that don't have a laser printer (another "machine" that not everyone has). So if you use the Foil Mates and your iron then you don't need to have special machines like a laser printer and laminator or MINC machine. However I also showed the other options in case someone does have those machines. Maybe you should watch my other video, 7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts Without A Machine, link is above, you will probably be happier with that.....but beware, I use my Cuttlebug in that one even though you don't need to use one. My goal is to show options to my viewers.....some have machines, some don't....I like to show that it can be done either way. If you don't own an iron then you will definitely prefer the other video.

Thanks... I was just having some fun with you! Actually, I have been looking at some inexpensive black and white laser printers so I can create my own "Foil Mates". I always would rather do it myself...I do have a laminator...but for some reason never considered that an iron would work...thanks again!!

I like doing my own too.....my hubby bought me a laser printer for some other crafts I do (videos on transfering photos to ceramic tiles and wood) so it comes in handy for the foil too. But I have been using transfer foil for years before ever hearing about using a laser printer and laminator, and that is where my first video on using transfer foil without a machine came from. Sorry though....I am getting a little sensitive lately with a few of the comments on this video. But seriously, if you haven't already watched the other video you should....you will probably like it :) Hugs....Janie

Hi Meghan....thank you for watching. I'm not sure what you are talking about. The base of what? I just watched the video and the only brown thing is my craft mat (it's teflon like you might get from Ranger....don't remember where I got it but now I just buy teflon mats from Amazon which are less expensive than "name brands"). @@janiethecraftprincess Few more questions.... what setting did you put your iron at? And you can just print any image on your laser printer and iron the foil on it and it will transfer?!?!
@janiethecraftprincess
@janiethecraftprincess 4 жыл бұрын
@@megs1768 Every iron is different and the one I used there is old. And if I use my craft irons, one doesn't have a setting and the other has high, mediium, and low.....with that one I usually start off with mediium and if that doesn't work I go to high. You just need to see what setting works best with your iron (or use a laminator). And yes you can print any image you want......it's not about the image it's about the laser printer. The heat makes the foil stick to the toner. Or you can purchase pre-printed toner sheets. I have other videos on using transfer foil without a machine.......not even a printer or iron....you might like those techniques :) Hugs...Janie

How does it know what to adhere to?
@janiethecraftprincess
@janiethecraftprincess 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. As you can see in THIS video the transfer foil is adhering to the laser printed images.....HOW is beyond me. That would be a question for the creators of the product. I'm just thankful that they are selling pre-printed products so that people that don't have a laser printer can still do things like this without having to go to Staples or Office Depot to get images printed. HOWEVER....I do have a video (link above in description box) on 7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts Without A Machine.....and that means no laser printer, no laminator, no iron! You might be interested in that as well. I also have a video on applying transfer foil to fabric (and it's washable) and also a new little series showcasing the new products that have come out for using Deco Foil (transfer foil). I guess the question of how or why it adheres to the laser printed images is really not important....just knowing that it does is pretty cool :) Hugs...Janie

jjgz4ever Great videos BTW. I think the toner melts a little with the applied heat and so the foil bonds to it. So that means that any type of glue would work as well (as you have shown).

Hi Susan, thanks for watching. It doesn't matter whether you use an iron, a laminator, a MINC machine, or a heat press.....you just need to use heat and pressure when adhereing transfer foil to laser printed images. So if you have heat press then use that.....as long as we are talking about the same thing. If you are talking about something that uses steam then NO. I have a heat press / t-shirt press and I''m thinking that is what you are talking about. I hope you watch my other video on 7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts Without A Machine (link is above).....no printer, no heat. I think you will like it :) Hugs...Janie

Gloria I'm sorry but this will not work with an ink jet printer.....and I'm not the one that created this way to apply transfer foil, I'm just the one that is sharing ways to use it without having to use a MINC machine. HOWEVER....those pre-printed Foil Mates sheets I showed in the video will work for you because they are already printed and ready to use. OR....you can always go to your nearest stationary store, Staples, Office Depot, etc. and they will print as many pages of images as you want for about 69 cents (or less) a page....then you can just keep them on hand for when you need them. So when you say this video won't be of any help...you're wrong....you do not need to have a laser printer. ALSO....I have another video called 7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts Without A Machine.....none of the ways I show in that video require a laser printer, so you may be interested in that. Links are above for Foil Mates.....and if you prefer Amazon, they have them for $7.86 for a pack of 12 pre-printed sheets....give it a try :) Hugs...Janie

Elly Davis I have never used that brand of transfer foil… I have the best luck with Deco Foil or any brand made by Thermoweb. However I have never heard of anything like that happening because the foil does not come off unless it has something to adhere to such as a tacky adhesive or double-sided tape or a laser printed image… Other than that the foil does not come off… So that is mind boggling for me. But I highly suggest using Deco Foil or Gina K Designs....Both are made by Thermoweb :) Hugs...Janie

You can actually get laminators on Amazon for as little as $17. I have had my YourStory laminator & heat binder for years, but a lot of my viewers don't have a laminator and don't want to spend the money on one so I'm always trying to show ways that people can do crafts with products they might just have around the house. Therm O Web has never suggested a certain brand of laminator to me and I would never suggest a certain brand to my viewers. But yes, one can be picked up fairly cheap at Amazon for those who want to spend the money.....or they can just use their iron.....or better yet use none of that, like I show in my other video "7 Ways To Apply Transfer Foil To Crafts Without A Machine" (link above) because not all crafts will fit through a laminator and may not be able to be ironed either. So there are options for everyone :) Hugs...Janie

If you watch Creativation 2016 and see the Thermoweb booth and tutorials, they themselves prefer the Royal Soverign laminator and it's what they sell on their website but any heat laminator works. Last year, I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a Scotch brand laminator for $14.99 (includes: laminator, attached cord, a couple of free laminating pouches, easy release switch in case your project gets stuck, timed shut off, 3mil and 5mil settings) and it does an amazing job on everything that I've put through there so far and I've used mine weekly for 18 months. Thermoweb does recommend using the suggested mil setting on the Deco Foil instructions for better adhering. My Scotch brand is only a 9in. wide laminator because most paper is 8.5x11. I would honestly search around before just buying any laminator if nothing else for the price. You may be able to find one at your local craft store using a discount coupon or even Wal-Mart. I liked finding mine at Wal-Mart because I went to their site and I received a $2.00 discount for picking it up in store. I know only certain items are discounted that way at different times and different stores. I hope this gives you a little bit more information about the Thermoweb preferred laminator vs. a basic laminator from the store. You never know when that saved dollar may come in handy for more craft supplies! That's always fun..I hope you have a bless day or night depending on when you read this. :-)

LOL...this whole chain of comments just makes me wonder why either of you were even watching my video to begin with. I have a series of videos on using transfer foil WITHOUT A MACHINE for a reason...and the reason is not because I'm clueless....it's because I have viewers that don't have machines (laminators or MINC or any other similar machine) and they don't want to spend the money to buy them. So I'm not looking for a laminator for myself....I'm quite happy with the one I have....nor am I looking to sell them to my viewers. I would also like to add that Therm O Web is quite aware of my videos and has never suggested to me that I buy a Soverign laminator so I think they are less worred about it than you two are. But the fact is this video and the other videos on this matter are and will remain about using transfer foil WITHOUT A MACHINE and my viewers are loving it and leaving me wonderful comments thanking me for the info. I appreciate that you watched my video but if your only purpose was to try to sell a laminator or to make my viewers and myself feel inadequet for not using a machine, or the "right" machine, then you have come to the wrong place. However if you enjoyed the video, learned something from it, and have something positive to say about it please feel free share that :) Janie

jjgz4ever, I wasn’t bashing your time and creativity. This is the 1st video I’d seen of yours until I followed the link to your other videos. Please don’t bash me because I was simply explaining the different between the R.S. And other laminators. Trying to help a fellow crafter should be welcomed. I read every post on this video before commenting and I didn’t comment to upset you. I wasn’t trying to get anyone to purchase any items. I was only informing her of the price I paid for mine and what functions it had vs the other types just in case they were still interested in buying a heat laminator. It’s difficult to see what’s in a youtuber’s series if it was a recommended video. However, I did watch the 2nd video after this one and I enjoyed it greatly...the card was adorable! I wish I had seen the video before I sent out my card swaps. I didn’t use any foiling but I saved your video in my playlist so I can refer to it in the near future. I think using foil on my Easter cards would be awesome. I’d love to cover lil cardstock eggs with the foil. Anyhow, I didn’t mean to upset you but as of last night I became a sub! TFS

My sincerest appologies. It just felt like you and the other person thought I had no idea what I was doing and that I needed to be educated. I have been using transfer foil for years before hearing about Deco Foil or MINC or any of that and had figured out many ways to use it. There was no way I was going to by a MINC machine and discovered that there are many others that feel the same way.....even about a laminator.....because having to purchase extra equipment makes things more expensive. So because of many requests I started making these videos. Therm O Web is quite aware of them and has never suggested a certain laminator, and I have read their packaging which also does not mentioned a certain laminator. I understand now that you explained that your comment was actually to the other person and not to me. I'm sorry I took it wrong. Personally I have so many craft machines and products....more than most people can imagine....but I just don't buy things I don't need if something else I have is working just fine. Not to bore you but here is a story of about people thinking I was doing something wrong and told me it couldn't be done. I have been on deisgn teams that use digis (digital images) that had to be colored, and I had been printing them with my inkjet printer onto 110 lb cardstock that I buy by the ream from Staples, and coloring them Spectrum Noir alcohol ink markers....I had no problems. Then everyone, including my neice who had seen my work, informs me that you have to use a laser printer or the ink will smear. Even when I said I had been doing it the other way they said "Oh no that won't work". It blew me away because it had been working for me. One day I was at Scrapbook Expo taking a Copic coloring class, the lady told everyone the same thing.....so I told her my experience and she smiled and said "yes it will work the way you are doing it, you just need to wait for the ink to dry"....and she actually let the class know that then. Later I found it also works for me because I have a Canon printer and Canon's black ink is different than other printers and works for coloring. So according to everyone else, it couldn't be done,,,,,I was doing it wrong....but it worked beautifully for me. So sometimes people hear that something is suppose to be done one way and so they believe that is the ONLY way to do it.....but it's not. So with that story being shared with you, it might shed a little light on my defensiveness when I thought you were trying to tell me I was doing it wrong and had to do it with a certain machine. So thank you for explaining your intensions and thank you so much for watching my other videos and for subscribing. Have fun playing with your Deco Foil :) Hugs...Janie

Elly Davis actually I am showing that you do not need a laser printer because they sell the pre-printed cards to use and I am also showing that you do not need a laminator because you can use your iron… If you want to call an iron a machine please feel free to do so but most people own one and so it is not a craft machine that you have to go out and purchase.
