Famously the rattlers in nor cal mountains can get flipping massive, my dad's buddy had one lift itself up to look inside his pickup truck and stare him in the eyes.. 😳 .. oh grandpa was kinda hard of sight and would slam on the brakes to skid across rattle snakes sunning in the pavement 😂 50/50 if it was a snake..

Adam did you know there is a program to re-introduce wolves into Britain? Back in the middle ages and before, there were lots of wolves there. 🙂 btw, there's a national park called Channel Islands national park, I think it has been in your videos. National Geographic does adventure cruises to those islands (you can get a much cheaper ride if you're cool with camping on the island and being picked up the next morning, there's a company contracted to provide that). So, apparently a biologist taking some National Geographic guests on a tour of one of the islands discovered a new species: a rattlesnake that has no rattle. There's no major predators on the island (except man) so it evolved without the rattle! Observe, "Crotalus catalinensis is a rattleless rattlesnake endemic to Santa Catalina Island, in the Gulf of California, Mexico. It has been hypothesized that the lack of a rattle in this species is a stealth adaptation for hunting birds in vegetation. We provide detailed data on the diet of C. catalinensis from samples obtained during nine trips to the island in 2002-2004." (the paper is wrong, Santa Catalina is off the coast of Los Angeles and is in US waters.) 🙂

I was bitten by a Brown Recluse when I was 19. It got me in the calf muscle. A lot of people don't understand what necrotic venom does. A hole literally rotted out at the site of the bite that I could easily stick my thumb into up to the first joint. The flesh and muscle just... liquified.

Cottonmouths are called such because of the white lining around their mouth. They can be found up and down the Mississippi River Valley. Also, my state is known for the aforementioned snake, as well as copperheads, brown recluse and black widow spiders, elk, black bears, and the occasional bus-sized catfish.

Adam, cotton mouth so named because when it opens its mouth its solid white inside- like cotton. As a kid here in north Texas my dad and uncle discovered one in a utility drawer in our shed. It held big stuff like chain saws, etc. When they threw the drawer to the ground she didn't strike. After she was dispatched we discovered 6 whole hen's eggs she'd just swallowed from our neighbors chicken coop. Good times 😉

Hey Adam Couser, I'm in Columbus Ohio.. The most dangerous animal which may sound silly but DEER are the most dangerous animals where I live! Deer are numerous in the wooded areas of the city of Columbus. There are deer crossing warning signs also to be watchful for deer that maybe standing in the road or on the side of the road you are driving on. Deer often run across in front of your car. Deer are also hard to see because their camouflage body color blends in to the surroundings. Deer like to come out during sun rise and sun set. Deer can cost thousands of dollars of damage to your car if hit.

I'm a lifelong resident of Rhode Island. My mother was bitten by a deer tick and contracted Lyme disease in the 1980s. It was known to medicine then but was still rare, so she suffered for a long time before it was diagnosed. But it only made her uncomfortable. Her life wasn't ended, like the poor woman in Texas just last week whose remains were found in the mouth of an alligator. I could not live in the swampy parts of the southeastern U.S., knowing that a giant predator could appear at any moment. I went golfing once in Florida, and when I hit the ball near the water but not in it, I just hit another ball. It definitely was not worth the risk of being maimed or worse.

Gators are super chill, as long as you’re not swimming around in gator water, or fooling around with them on land, you’ll be fine. Now if you run into an American croc that’s a different story, but luckily they’re nowhere near as common as gators.

@@charlesbrown4483 Maybe so, but when there's a chance of being killed and eaten, it can be difficult to be rational. One of several reasons why I don't like ocean beaches, which I live near, is fear of sharks. I know I'm far more likely to die in a car accident on the way to the beach, but travelling in a car is a necessary risk.

10:40 Antlers are basically an extension of the skull. While they are growing they have "velvet", the soft tissue that is delivering blood to the growing bone. When it's done the skin falls off and the antlers dry out to a somewhat flexible but hard weapon and showcase for the ladies.

The Arkansas Alligator Farm has been a tourist attraction in Hot Springs since 1902. If you visit, you can feed 4-year-old little guys with pieces of hot dog or feed the big gators pieces of chicken, either way on a fish pole. Babe Ruth once hit a 500-ft. fly ball from Whittington Park right into the Alligator Farm.

I’ve lived in a whole bunch of the states, and have spotted very few of these animals. My count is: multiple black widow spiders, a few brown recluses, one black bear that I helped a fellow middle aged woman to chase away from her chicken coop, a couple of moose from waaaay far off, and one copperhead snake on my back porch that I chased off by spraying it with a hose, poor thing. It was just out of hibernation, and not at all in the mood for a cold shower. Oh, and plenty of coyotes. I’ve never lived in a state with brown bear (that I know of) but I’m pretty sure the states I’ve lived in covered the rest of that list of dangerous animals, and most of my time there was spent near their territory. The thing is, it wound up being basically no danger. Yeah, the idea of them can be scary, but you have to either work really hard to fall afoul of them, or be insanely unlucky. Cars, on the other hand…. There were over 6 million car accidents reported to police last year. Now THAT is terrifying. Oh, and also, DEER. Deer are trying to kill us all. Talk about car accidents! I’m rooting for the hunters.

I’m always super careful when checking areas to find my discs. The craziest thing I’ve seen wasn’t snakes but near one of the lakes at one of the courses there were thousands of baby frogs. Each time before we went in the water one guy would have to grab the rope swing and swing out kicking and splashing through the water lilies to scare the water moccasins away . It wasn't unusual to see one there . We would also camp out on the bank there overnight ,build a campfire and cook the fish we caught and the legs of the frogs we gigged there . Good times . I'll try to keep this short. But, I live in West Virginia USA and one Fall day I decided to go turkey hunting. The woods were abnormally dry due to lack of rainfall. That made a chipmunk sound like an elephant stomping through the woods. I was fully camouflaged, sitting with my back to a large oak tree, and using a turkey call every now and then trying to get one into shotgun range. I heard a slight rustling sound behind me and I very slowly peeked around the tree to see a bobcat had gotten to within thirty feet of me. I assume that it had heard my turkey call and was fixin to make me into lunch. Anyway, once it saw me it took off. Now, I've got over fifty years of hunting and fishing experience, so I kinda know my way around in the woods. It still amazes me just how close that thing was able to get to me before I heard it...and, I'm glad I did. An angry bobcat pouncing on my head thinking that I was a snack wouldn't be fun. Apologies for the ratchet-jawing...I dig the channel and keep the vids comin.

In Ohio, timber rattlesnakes are found only in the southern part of the state, south of the line defined by the furthest extent of the last glaciation (the terminal moraine). North of that line, the worst you'll come across is a Massassauga rattlesnake, which is shy and reclusive, generally only found in remote wetlands, and the venom of which might make you feel a little queasy for a while. I saw a Massassauga rattlesnake once in northern Indiana. It turned and slithered away just as fast as it could.

He would walk through hundreds of water moccasins, and usually kept atleast 3 rattlers. He was bit on so many occasions that the anti-venom made him sicker than the bite.

The reason water moccasins are also called cotton mouths is because the the inside of their mouths looks like cotton. Most snakes would rather not bite you if they can avoid it. They don't want to waste venom on something they can't eat. I nearly stepped on a copperhead and it made a mock strike at me. We both gave each other a wide berth after that. My roommate was bitten by a black widow and was in excruciating pain for days. I've also been stung by a couple of scorpions. Unpleasant, but reportedly not nearly as bad as a black widow bite. In rural areas we lost a number of barn cats to coyotes and bobcats. I have seen a cougar in the wild before, but briefly, they're very shy.

The best part is, most of these states have more than just the one species off this list living there. In Mississippi where I live, we have Black Bear, Alligators, and wild boar (not a predator but dangerous when pissed off) for the big ones to worry about. Bobcats and Coyotes for the medium size fluff balls of rodent killing fury. We have 30 non-venomous snakes and 6 species of venomous snakes which are the Copperhead, Cottonmouth (named for the white lining in the mouth that they use as a predator deterrent), Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Timber/Canebrake Rattlesnake, Pygmy Rattlesnake, Eastern Coral Snake, and all kinds of fun venomous spiders as well. I’ve seen all but the Eastern Diamondback…it’s getting rare to see them these days as most people would rather kill them than appreciate the good they do for pest control/the environment. Remember, 70% of snakebites happen when trying to capture or kill them. They are just trying to survive like we are and are a vital part of a healthy ecosystem.

I think that this was the best reaction video I have ever seen. I have seen this video before, and watching your reactions, Adam, was priceless. I get your fear of snakes and spiders, they aren't my favorite either, but, I am no longer scared of them. Once you have experienced them, they are less frightening, and more respected as a fellow co-inhabitant of the planet. And, thank God for exterminators, and animal management so that there are professionals to deal with them and I don't have to. I currently live in Indianapolis, Indiana. We have bobcats, black bears, a host of other animals, insects, spiders and snakes. I am 62 and seen many "wild animals" in person. I am more in awe that fear. I stay out of their way, they leave me alone. Yes, I want to hug every bear I have ever seen. I want to bet every wolf and fox. I don't, of course, but, without question the kid in me wants to be friends with everyone and every animal and creature. Hope you have a great day. Thanks for your hard work. Peace, my friend.

I was in a tube in Virginia, floating down the Shenandoah River, and a northern cottonmouth swam up to my tube, and tried to get on - I didn't know I could do a backbend, let alone on a tube in a river, and quicker than I've moved in decades. The snake just moved on to the next tuber. Better than tubing in Florida lol

kansas here! gotta say i’m surprised we aren’t one of the spider states, i do see the occasional rattlesnake, but more so i see the brown recluse spiders. i’ve had spider traps that will catch over a dozen within a week. a bite from a brown recluse spider can decay a good chunk of flesh and muscle. my mom has a hunk of her arm that’s missing from a brown recluse bite that she got while sleeping. while i’m okay with a lil spider helping take care of the bugs in my house, brown recluse are murder on sight for me 😂

The most common snake I've seen was a garter snake. Not at all venomous, and rather timid. But herevin Pennsylvania, we do have rattlesnakes. Rattlesnakes get their name because of the rattle at the end of their tail. The rattle, and the position of the snake before a strike is a warning to back off.

Florida has many of these: bull sharks, great white sharks, hammerhead sharks, rattle snakes, water moccasins, copperhead snakes, coral snakes, black widow spiders, brown recluse spiders, alligators, crocodiles, coyotes, panthers, bears, Zika virus, Naegleria fowleri (brain eating amoeba), box jelly fish, Portuguese Man-O-War, fire ants, kissing bug, ticks with Lyme disease, wild boar, eastern equine encephalitis (carried by mosquitoes). And we have introduced species like Joro flying spiders, pythons, anacondas, spectacled caiman, lion fish, yellow legged hornet, giant ground hornets (40mm long). You kind of get the idea that Florida has a few nasty creatures. It is also known as the shark attack capital of the world in new Smyrna Beach… And the lightning strike capital is around the Tampa Bay area. We also get hurricanes, water spouts, and tornadoes. We haven’t even talked about the plants that can do you harm. 😂

The snakes are also very prevalent across North America. Check out a video on Texas Rattlesnake Roundup it happens every year in texas.

1. Cotton mouths have white mouths, that's how they got the nickname. 2. Hawaii and Alaska have no native snake population, and strictly enforced laws to keep it that way. Pennsylvania has 67 counties, only 5 of which have elk. In terms of physical and property damage, white tail deer are the most "dangerous" due to vehicle accidents. Pennsylvania is also home to 4 species of poisonous spiders, 3 species venomous snakes, brown and black bear, coyote, and bobcats. Elk are barely a footnote when it comes to our dangerous wildlife. A couple weeks ago I had a bear let himself into my car, elk are the least of my concerns (don't have them in my county, anyway).

I’m 49 and I had no idea so many states had so many snakes much less poisonous or venomous ones 😬 STORY TIME: You can’t always explain or pin point how or why you fear something but I know exactly why I have a fear of snakes. We had property in the mountains in California. At around age 11 or 12 we had an infestation of rattle snakes. I mean it was like a plague… even the roads were COVERED in snakes. Mostly small baby ones but they are more aggressive and more dangerous in their initial bite. They strike repeatedly! Angry little jerks lol Anyway, we had to protect ourselves but also livestock since these things were so aggressive. As far as your eyes could see it looked like a snake pit from Indiana Jones or something. It was so bad that you weren’t scared as much as you’d think during it because you were too busy dealing with it. The worst part IMO was there were “bull” snakes too (I don’t know what they ACTUALLY were, that’s just what everyone called them, including game wardens). Their defense mechanism was they imitated rattle snakes… they looked like them and they even coiled up and shook the end of their tail to make you nope out before realizing they were faking. The reason I know what game wardens called them too was because these mo fos decided to be as aggressive as the babies! I got bite two different times but both times it was a huge ass bull snake. I’d say thankfully but they were having a bigger identity crisis than usual so when they bit, they thrashed around tearing the area. It was a freaking nightmare! In conclusion, I don’t give a rats behind if it’s “friendly”, alive, dead, or even fake… I’m going the other way. 😭

When I lived in Ohio I came across a Timber Rattler right in the middle of the trail I was on, soaking up some sun. I didn't even notice until I heard the rattle, it was 5 ft. in front of me. The rattle was the warning, I looked down and it coiled up ready to strike. I slowly backed up, and then took my phone out and got a pic. I wasn't frightened just excited to see one because they are very elusive. It just slithered away into the underbrush. No harm no foul.

Howdy from Southern West Virginia. We have whats called a hoop snake here in the backwoods. They roll up in a circle and chase their prey sometimes humans. One day was out on my four wheeler and ran over a 8 foot long timber rattler. I smushed his head first doing great speed then backed up in reverse and got him again. Coyotes and black bears and black panthers. 3 of the black panthers killed everyone of my chickens. My friend down the road had one on her roof one night she went out to see and slapped her on the head hanging down from her front door.

In Southern California it's not unusual to find a black or brown bear in your pool or hot tub. When it gets hot, the pool is too good to pass up. They scamper off when yelled at....usually. Sometimes you have to call a forest ranger. They love pools and hot tubs! Why did the alligator cross the road? To get to the golf course, of coutse.
