He is a humanoid with ram horns, likely due to mutation from the mushroom bomb, and is the incarnation of a catalyst comet just like Finn, with his immortality and skeletal form being due to some kind of magic keeping him alive-ish. We might get a full story on him someday, but the long and short of it is that he's just as much of a person as Finn, and he only knows about the primordial entities like Golb is because he did his research. He's a physical deformed scientist-sorcerer with mental health issues.

The Adventure Time fandom really does have a thing for painting Princess Bubblegum worse than she actually is, and it's pretty tiring and ridiculous. Can she be controlling? Yes. Can she be manipulative? Yes. However this does not make her an irredeemable monster. Her actions are largely in an effort to try and keep things orderly and safe because she feels it is her job to do so. She got caught in this trap, and it led to how it is. If anything, she's simply flawed, like every other character in this series. She is not the absolute monster everybody decides she is because the fandom has absolutely no understanding or awareness of things beyond black and white. It's absolutely the same for the Steven Universe fandom regarding Rose Quartz and their obsession over viewing her as the worst while ignoring key things.

For anyone confused about The Lich being able to exist even after Finn wishes he never existed, The Lich can't be erased. No matter what, He will show up in that timeline / universe no matter what.

I coincidentally just binged all of Adventure Time yesterday (how do you know, KZfaq?!) - and while I wasn't exactly a fan of most of the episodes, the "random/silly" humor just fell a bit flat to me, season 4 episode 25 completely blindsided me as a tearjerker. Every episode that involves Marceline is well worth watching in my opinion.

OK, let me break it down. The Lich already existed,the mushroom bomb just gave him a physical body. When the mushroom bomb was, frozen that means the Lich never gained a corporeal form however when ice Finn caused the bomb to crack and detonate, the Lich , was able to gain a corporeal form in farm world Jake. I hope I explained it for you tell me if I made it make less sense

The Adventure Time pilot released in 2007 but that's not as interesting.
