Something that people don't really seem to think about. The master sword is supposed to *repel* evil. Meaning that every single time you see ganon get stabbed with it, the sword is actively making the wound wider. Or, you know, whenever you hit enemies with the thing.

@@piranhalettuce That game has one of the darkest backstories in the franchise. Zelda always had these dark undertones even in the happiest of games so I am not surprised they would have a scene like that.

@@piranhalettuce Wind Waker is a Zelda game whose main plot is about moving on from the end of the world and abandon the past. The other games let you rebuild after the destruction.

“Has there ever been blood in Zelda?” Yes actually! It only shows up in two games. In Ocarina of Time Ganondorf coughed blood and as Ganon had it spew out when he was stabbed but it was censored in later releases to a green color, there’s also two locations in that game with bloodstains around the place as they were used by The Hyrule Royal Family to torture criminals. In Twilight Princess Ganondorf has a glowing wound on his chest that sometimes drips during combat. Zelda 2 actually had Link’s blood as a plot device though not seen in game the monsters use Link’s blood to revive Ganon when you get a game over.

Haze's death is actually one of the least bad deaths in the series. Fiora's death in XB1 way worse violence wise since she's stabbed throughout her entire body, ripped in two, and then her remains exploded. Even just in 2 Amalthus's death is way more violent than Haze's. Jin intentionally gave Haze a painless, quick death in order to ruin Amalthus's plan and set his friend free from Amalthus' slavery. It's also implied that Haze remembered her past incarnations in her dying moments and silently thanked Jin, but Jin had flashbacks to Lora dying and ran away. So really while Haze's death is very tragic overall it was for the best and Jin really had no other option. Haze had to die for the world to be saved. It also wasn't that violent, as again Fiora's death in 1 and Amalthus' death in 2 are far more violent. However, in terms of emotional deaths there is one that comes to mind from that series. (Major Spoilers for XB3) M's death was way sadder that anything in any of the other games especially if you thought it was Mio who died when you saw it. So yeah, M, Amalthus, and Fiora take the cake for darkest deaths in the Xenoblade series. In terms of general Nintendo, for violent deaths Ganondorf's deaths in Windwaker and Twilight Princess definitely count. Zant's brutal death in Twilight Princess counts as well. Ocarina of Time doesn't count in spite of Link literally stabbing Ganon directly in the brain because Ganon suprisingly doesn't die there. If you want to count Game Over sequences, the Game Over in Donkey Kong 64 is insanely dark and scary even without showing anything, and in fact not showing anything actually enhances the fear factor rather than detracting from it. Rare kinda had a thing for spooky game overs especially in the SNES and N64 eras. The original DKC trilogy for example is known for its spooky game overs. Along with that, the entire Metroid Prime Trilogy has some of the darkest game overs in gaming period outside of bad endings. And speaking of bad endings, if you want to count those pretty much all the non-standard game overs in Paper Mario The 1000 Year Door and Super Paper Mario are all insanely dark, as well as the bad ending/game over in Majora's Mask when you run out of time. Edit: Forgot about Shania in XB3. Her death was DARK. Who came up with the idea to make a POV suicide by gun in a T rated game? Also Kronya from Fire Emblem Three Houses as well as Solon from Three Hopes. (true ending route) Literally got their heart ripped out like it's MGR lol.

To add to the FE3H one, the literal first scene of the game (not counting the opening), where Seiros and Nemesis are fighting and she kills him by stabbing him in the chest several times while screaming at him to die I think definitely should've been on this list. I also agree with you on these. Edit: should probably specify I mean the first scene of Three Houses, not Three Hope's, as you were referring to, though you might've figured that.

One of the most infamous parts of Fire Emblem is its tendency for characters to be burned alive. The resulting deaths range from unintentionally funny (Fates) to shocking and heartbreaking (Holy War and Echoes)

I wish they showed Fiora's death from the first game, although I guess that would be massive spoilers, even though this video should be a very obvious spoiler tag

I think showing a spoiler from a game that came out 10 Years ago is fine. Adding even more to that, showing haze die is the end of chapter... way later than fioras death in 1

@@blyarin5825 what does the level of the boss have anything to do with if it's a spoiler or not? Same thing for when it happened, lol. Just becuase it happens early, doesn't take away from the fact that it's a spoiler. Despite how big of a game it is, Xenoblade flew under the radar fro lots of people. Not so much now that it was ported to Switch and has a new game in the series, but my point still stands. Don't know exactly what you're trying to argue here? Fiora dying is a pretty big spoiler. The level of a boss doesn't change that. When it happens in the story doesn't change that. The fact that the game is older doesn't change that. If someone hasn't played the game, then seeing that scene would be a pretty big spoiler for the story. And Mecha Fiora on Smash is even bigger of a spoiler, and is really stupid they put her in there. Really no reason they had to do that. People complained about it, at the time, too. At least with the video, it's pretty obvious that there's going to be spoilers to games

I feel like Miklan turning into a Demonic Beast in Fire Emblem Three Houses should have been on here. Between the genuine look of sheer terror on his face as the Lance of Ruin covers his body in a weird black substance and how after he transforms he picks up one of the thieves he was with who didn't immediately run away and throws him into a wall showing that Miklan has lost all control of himself and when he screams after he transforms you can still hear a hint of his voice in it.

I said this to someone else in this comment section, but I think Nemesis dying at the beginning of Three Houses after his battle with Seiros definitely should've been on here. Considering it's like, the first full scene of the entire game (barring the opening if you saw it), and it's someone getting stabbed in the chest several times while being screamed at to die and being covered in blood while doing it, that's pretty unsettling, even more so since, as I mentioned, it literally can be one of the first scenes you could see in the game.

In the same vein Astor from Age of Calamity should probably be there since you know he was consumed by malice in the same way and then used as a vessel for Calamity Ganon. Malice has pretty much the properties of acid if Link touching it is any indication. Sumeragi's death from also FE14 looks painful. I would probably have added Gort from Torna since he is an insane mutated monstrosity that is slowly dying at this point. Shania shooting herself in the head should also probably be here. Bobby comminting suicide via explosion on screen in Paper Mario could also be there just for the wtf factor of that death compared to the tone of most of the game. Nemesis getting stabbed to death on screen. Also the barbecue from FE4.

There are two things that get me about how Zant was killed. 1- how it would have looked if the game was allowed to show a more visceral depiction 2- the fact that eight after it happens, Midna confirms that she could have done so much worse

Honestly, while Fan's death deserves to be on this list, I think that better choices would be either Amalthus from the same game or Metal Face from Xenoblade 1, as while they're not really more GRUESOME, per se, they're definitely more savage. As for Fire Emblem, rather than Emmeryn, I think a better choice would have been the Battle of Belhalla - or if that's too retro, the death of the final boss in the Azure Moon route of Three Houses. EDIT: Actually, saw a comment below that mentioned Kronya from Three Houses - yeah, that's better than my pick.

In Xenoblade is should either be Shania from 3 (though that may be too recent) or Fiora from 1. (By all accounts she DID die there, even if she was revived as a machine) Also Kronya should have definitely been on the list. (or Solon from Three Hopes who died the same way) The Battle of Bellhala is super dark but since it's on the SNES most of it is implied and not shown due to system limitations. We'll have to wait for the inevitable remake (which we could get as early as next year) to see the scene in its full glory.

Shania deserved it tbh. Her back story and reasons made it seem understandable why she did it but like she was a fucking maniac. She killed so many of her previous allies and friends. she is a great antagonist and as well written as N and M. Though M wasn't really a antagonist

@@niles8576 Huh? Shania killed literally no one. She TRIED to kill literally everyone in the city but failed thanks to Mio (in M's body) warning them so they moved the city to under Caldensia. Even when Shania came back as a Mobius no one was killed there was just some structural damage.

Fun little fact about Mother 3 After that scene, Flint ends up in jail and is told that he is literally the first person ever to end up there. 😶 He does get out after though. Also, the dog (his name is Boney) is actually one of the main party members. So he lives. 🙂

For the death of max profit haltman it is actually edited so that it is less jarring because, this is a secret final boss that you get if you beat the boss rush so the actual ending for that boss is the happy go lucky results screen

I feel like this list could have used more Zelda related entries There are some really dark moments in those games, not just death related But if anything this list should have included Link stabbing Ganondorf at the end of WW and also the ending for OoT with Link also stabbing Ganon in the head And while not dark, I do feel like Mikau from MM also deserved an honorable mention as a really tragic death, if you look into his backstory and relation to Lulu

Luigi's death during the Simon Belmont + Richter Belmont Reveal Trailer was pretty gruesome and the most memorable death in a Nintendo product for that reason. When you get killed by Death itself, you know things are about to get serious.

Xenoblade deaths always hit different. Haze's is more from the emotions connecting her to not only the players, but the the characters. Especially if you play through Torna, that scene just hits different. Sure, it might not be the most gruesome death in Xenoblade, not by a long shot, but damn was it one of the more memorable for me. That MOTHER 3 scene is just, man... Nintendo needs to localize MOTHER 3 already.

There are creatures called Dragos in the game that are basically just T-Rexes. They're supposed to be friendly, though. So, it's basically implied what should be a friendly creature up and killed his wife. It's not the whole story tho.

Even then 99% of all Zeldas are rated E10+ very few are actually E especially after E10+ was made. Also OOT and MM should have 100% been rated T especially when they were uncensored and made before E10+ was a thing back on N64. Also how the heck is BotW rated E10+ while Age of Calamity, which is arguably more tame, (no crude jokes or innuendo like BotW) got a T?

Spoiler alert for Fire Emblem Awakening: Emmeryn _TECHNICALLY_ doesn't die when she throws herself off the cliff. She has severe brain damage and loses all of her memories but she doesn't actually die and is actually a romance option for the male MC.

Yeah at that point she was a soulless slave to the main antagonist with super OP god powers. Her dying was for the best for everyone. Her situation is made even worse when you figure out she's one of Jins best friends and a splitting image of Jin's GF/Wife who died. Haze died when Lora (Jin's GF) died and was resurrected by the big bad to be his slave. Literally the only way the heroes were able to best Amalthus was because Haze was merked so Amalthus wouldn't have Haze's entire core. With the full thing he could have completely taken over the minds of every blade, titan, flesh eater, and blade eater in the world including the Aegises and then use them to destroy everything. But since he only had half his brainwashing didn't effect the Aegises and Flesh/Blade eaters and anyone else was able to resist with enough willpower.

I'm surprised Emmeryn made this list. I wouldn't call her death gruesome, even though a fall from that height would most certainly result in loads of physical harm to your newly named corpse. You don't hear her splat on the ground, you don't see her body. And many NPCs stated that her fall was "graceful and beautiful" or something along those lines. It was a sad death for sure that I'm glad Pat got to see, but I wouldn't call it gruesome

Original Hyrule Warriors is also rated T. Also, Age of Calamity is canon, it's just another branch of the timeline just like a lot of other Zelda games. By that logic both Link to the Past and Windwaker plus all their sequels are non canon, which is obviously not the case. Original Hyrule Warriors is also canon it takes place 1000 years after Four Swords Adventures and is what Finally merges the timeline. Finally, Age of Calamity should 100% not have been rated T. It's more tame that original BotW and yet that game got an E10+. Absurd.
