I am an Army vet that was deployed, I’m married to a Marine combat vet with severe PTSD that effects every aspect of our life. Sometimes it’s the hardest thing to know that you can’t make it better and all you can do is be there.I’m honored to have served in uniform and with some of the most amazing people anyone will ever and in some cases never know . I’m blessed to be there for a man that tells me he’s broken and better off alone. This is the first video of yours that KZfaq recommended and wow! Thank you for your honesty and vulnerability, and for your service.

I have PTSD from so many things. I was a “peace-time” veteran but saw family members die in my arms, got raped in 3rd grade and then at age 21 while stationed in Germany 79-81. It seems regardless of where PTSD sinks it’s tentacles into us, we are never truly free from it as it sinks it’s poison into us. The flashbacks I get try to turn me into a Mr. Hyde. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it doesn’t. But it follows me everyday and taints my view. This song hit my heartstrings. Good luck and prosperity to all those with PTSD and the family that loves them.

Hi! Thank you for your service. Husband is a vet, Iraq. There was a surge of patriotism for a minute within music, but it was only a minute. For someone to speak to the aftermath in the mind of a soldier, for PTSD to be a topic, for veterans to be recognized in the time that this came out is a rarity. It’s about the real toll, on the soldier, his adaption to regularity, his perspective on the family he’s returning to, and the family’s perspective. There is a lesson here for the spouses and children and other family members: feed them with love, keep them safe within their “home”, cover them up. On average, 20 US Vets commit suicide every day. Awareness is step 1.

In a relationship with a man who’s an Iraq war veteran. Over 30 years later and he still gets triggered and struggles. 😢 I see it with my son who’s an Afghanistan veteran. He’s not who he was before he went over there. I know I can never understand what he goes through. All I can do is love them through it and keep supporting them any way I can. I pray for all veterans but especially combat veterans. God bless you for having the courage to do this channel. To give these veterans a voice in their silent struggles. ❤🙏🏼 I hope this finds you well!

I wasn't in the Army but the Navy but I had a few people I was friends with in the Army and the Marines that were in combat zones than can attest to all of these things being real. And they all say the same thing, they just want the pain to go away and that they don't understand why it's happening to them. Breaks my heart for people who have ptsd. I can't even imagine their pain.

I have several Marines in my family and I know the other side of this pain. Thank you for your sacrifice for our country. Let me ask you, how are you doing this day?. I know it's one day at a time. I was really moved by your honesty and letting us in your world. I can't say I know how you feel but I can say, you're in my prayers. I walked in a room to see my dad ( Vietnam) 2 tours, trying to choke my mom. Then gently my mom talked to him to get him out of that frame of mine. So I ask you again, are you ok?

I've got a really special connection to this song. On my first deployment, I was going through a really depressing time and I was really struggling with it. I was about to spend a night sitting by myself and one guy I worked with saw that and brought me along with him because he found a guitar. I sat in a room with like 6 other dudes I didn't know and we all sat in silence while he played and sang. This was the first song he played and it helped me a lot that night. I'd never heard it nor had I been a fan of country music but it helped me a lot. Turned me on to country too which is nice

I resigned in 2021. I hated leaving my Vet's but I could not mentally take what the VA was doing to the employees and the Vet's! I found out a lot of other employees are leaving because of this! I watch this video every so often, just to remember. I am a Vietnam Combat Vet, served with the 101st ABN in I Corps, mostly the Ashau Valley. I remember coming home to a broken marriage, and just lost. Lots of drinking, fighting all the PTSD things that we know now but not when I came home. My family was confused I was confused and angry, trouble with the law the whole shebang! I have now been diagnosed with PTSD 50% and 100% disabled due to some effects of Agent Orange. Finally I started too realize when an onset of PTSD was coming on, sometimes I just have to go be alone, and I just get real quiet and introverted. I was lucky enough to meet the woman who would love me no matter what. We have been married now for 43yrs, 1 daughter and 2 grandchildren. I still jump at loud or unexpected noised, I still get flashbacks and dreams, but I have learned how to manage with the help of a great psychologist who I go to twice a week for the last 8-9 yrs at a local VA clinic. Just get help guys, it does not get rid of PTSD nothing ever will, it changed our brains, but it can help you understand what is happening to you, 52 yrs I have lived with this it will never go away. Just get some help, and make sure you find the right DR, took me 3 or 4 to find one that helps. Peace my brothers, and God Bless!!

Just remember that somone who is trying to understand loves you. Even if it isnt possible, or something that they can do. Just remember that they are doing it to be at a place to reach out, its no benefit to them they just want to be at a place to support you. To someone who is trying dont get mad at them, tell them what you need. Tell them to hold your hand, to turn on some music, do whatever works for you. But dont push them away just because they wanted to be closer to you and wanted to help even though it was in vain. They dont know what else to do and empathy is something we try to show anyone we love, so just communicate with those people. They dont have to understand what you went through to help you through it, and you dont have to tell them or anyone what or why... but if they are trying then dont get angry, instead embrace that person and give them a way that is helpful instead.

I’m all sorts of messed up from my time in, hold it together most of the time, but my wife refuses to let me do certain things (not going in to detail) because I spiral in to dark places. It sucks, but it’s reasonable. Triggered by things and memories that don’t even make sense to me. Fortunately she’s also a veteran and at least understands. I have PTSD (not military related). It's so severe even simple smells and tastes can take me back to horrible times in my life, to times when I almost died. I can't eat or drink certain things, I can't clean with certain cleaning products, etc. I rarely talk about it outside of my family. My husband does his best to shield me from 'going back' to worst times in my mind and I've learned ways to cope as I cannot take meds (they make me far worse, there's a black box warning on anxiety and deoression meds for a reason). My heart goes out to all the veterans who deal with PTSD. I never had to see friends die in action, to go to funerals for those who took their own life due to their military service so I'm not saying what I deal with is equal or worse than veterans, but I can start to understand some of it when my mind won't let me just forget.
