This young lady's parents should have been a part of this episode. They clearly enabled her horrible money habits and even during the show she seemed to have learned nothing. They fact that her parents were willing to buy a $6000 wedding dress, with her racking up more debt after they paid it off, shows that somewhere along the line they spoiled her rotten. Gail should have given the money only to Gord, seeing as they were not even married yet, he could have put it towards his debt.

in some cultures, it's customary to spend more on the wedding than on anything else, for the parents' prestige especially. but I'm not sure if that's a factor here.

Shame on them for having a wedding ceremony when so far in debt. She is pregnant. Neither one makes a good salary! Go get married in a cheap civil ceremony wearing regular clothes you already own. Then for your 25th anniversary, if you are financially secure, have a ceremony and party.

You are more than right. We spent less than 2000 Euros on our wedding in June this year. We chose an affordable buffet restaurant to feed the guests then went to a friend's waterside house for a party with drinks, cake and pizza.

She appears to be a narcissist, and she literally cannot accept blame. Also, she often demeans and debases her husband, never acknowledging him as anything other than a "less than". Even with the comment from the owner of the restaurant telling him they were the best potatoes, she didn't smile at him or acknowledge the comment in any way, other than to look away and comment, "I wasn't there". She overrode all of his instructions in the kitchen while he was supposed to be the lead chef and just did her own thing throughout the whole show. I would not be able to bear seeing her in "real life". I feel so bad for the husband. He is an optimist, so he tried to put an upbeat spin on all of her negative actions. My best advice to the husband is.....run! Find someone who will work with you to make a good and positive life!

I lived comfortably middle class all my life, but I had great financial role models and I had all the same opportunities given to me, even during the same time period as this girl. We’re probably the same age. The difference is, I moved home after college with $30,000 of student loans. I didn’t open a single credit card. I was a teacher, my parents let me live with them so I could pay off my loans. That’s exactly what I did. I paid cash for everything, paid down off my loans, saved to pay for my portion of the wedding expenses, then moved into a modest home once I was married. We still live in that home with our children near great schools and huge McMansions, so our home value has skyrocketed. And our mortgage is still the same low payment every month. It will be paid off in a couple years. If someone is willing to give you help or even if you just get lucky in life, it pays to be financially conservative as a way to say thank you and secure your future.

Babies can be cheap. Thrift store clothes and limit to 14 outfits in each size. Skip newborn size! For "crib" use dresser drawer or laundry basket placed in safe area. When baby starts moving independently, lay mattress on floor. Cover all electrical plugs. Baby proof room. Put cover on inside doorknob to prevent baby's escape or turn around the doorknob so locks on outside. Use household items as toys. Cardboard boxes of various sizes for building blocks, spoons and pan, plastic cups various sizes for stacking, etc. American parents buy all kinds of expensive, unnecessary junk and way too many clothes! Babies don't need shoes until they walk. Strollers aren't needed unless you don't have a car. My smart friend bought a fold-up wagon for $50 and used it for the baby. The baby is 8 now and the wagon is still handy! You can tie the baby to your back using sturdy cloth. (How to on KZfaq.) You do need a car seat.

Do you remember Dan Fielding on Night Court? I loved the episode where his parents visited, and he talked about his childhood - his little toy drum with the man with long hair and a fancy suit on the side (round Quaker Oats box) and his pet turtle that never actually moved (it was a spud). I still have my one and only teddy bear, and after 70 years I find it strangely comforting on occasions. Also had only one doll, not a room full. Amazing what you don't miss until other people tell you that you ought to.

@@queen.kristal8395 Yes, I agree as the child gets older costs increase. However too many raise their kids as pampered, spoiled brats setting the kids up for a lifetime of dysfunctionality because real life isn't having everything you want, having people waiting on you hand and foot, etc.

Not sure what country you live in but your advice sucks and is outdated. You do need a travel system , you do need a safe carrier for baby, you do need a crib or something meant for babies. Baby stuff can be cheap by shopping second hand. With our first we did new with our next three kids we did second hand. And that includes stroller car seat etc.

There are so many questions to this couple besides their money issues: 1) how a 44 y.o. grown man is marrying a woman without even knowing her financial situation? 2) how two adults of 27 y.o. and 44 y.o. can get pregnant "unplanned"? 3) how they are getting married not having lived together at least a couple of months first just to get know each other better? In my opinion, there is no hope for them because the issue is not only money but their general attitude as two teenagers in the bodies of adults.

Yes, I would have used the same dress for both weddings and I would have sat her parents down and explained the situation and asked if instead of the gown she would pay in for something else. I wouldn't try to go into some of the other jobs associated with her profession, like security (while she's pregnant) but there are other things she could do like babysitting. Or, since they are staying with her parents, maybe she could do some stuff like laundry and extra chores to help her parents and they can pay her a little.

No the parents should not pay her, she is getting a nice home for free, common sense would dictate that she helps out her parents by doing chores for them for free!
@jenniferwang3489

When I said pay a little, I meant for her to work around the house and the money they give her she could use to pay down her debt. I'm sure her parents would rather her work around the house instead of just giving her money for doing nothing. This is a situation where her parents may want to help, and there's nothing wrong with that. But she needs to help out and try to "earn her keep" even if she is pregnant. I was pregnant with my youngest AND had a toddler to chase after, and I kept up the laundry and dishes. My point was that her family would rather she stay home and help while on mat leave instead of staying with the status quo of sitting on her butt and doing nothin while parents take care of her.

I am beside myself trying to figure out how some of these folks can live RENT FREE & have so much debt...and mainly credit card debt!!! I freak out if my credit card balances reach $3K total, and I use only two cards. With no rent cost, they should easily have an extra $1,000/mo to save!!! Or pay down debt!!!

😩 Angela seems so clueless about her action. At the end she says she doesn’t know where they went wrong even after Gail explained it. They are in bad situation. She has to do all that is needed to help them when she goes on leave. She will expect him to step up.. but if she doesn’t do it now, it will be so much harder on him when he’s the only one working and much of the debt is hers

It's so easy to entertain yourself at home , especially whene you like movies and food . Everyone today have Netflix or Disney+ Or something like this Internet have so many choices .I share Netflix account with my friend (actually she is the one who share with me lol , she pays) .Even if you don't have internet you still have tv and dvd players . You can make food at home even popcorn and drinks. I mean they can go out somewhere for entertainment but once in a month and spend not to much .There is always choices if you want to save .I spend 700 euro in a month for food entertain and clothes and still feel guilty every time .Imagine spending 5k .

People seem to forget that a wedding is about celebrating the love you have for another person with the people you loved before. Not show off to the world and spend until you drop. Have a wedding that fits your budget. I got married last month, we saved for a year and paid it all off in full. We have a baby on the way, with a plan in place. We work hard and save instead of spend. It's not that hard, just accept you're not a millionaire.
