Thanks, this video is good for me to install my (dash+rear cam) to the fuse box , especially I use all these two empty fuse set , because the cam has the function of parking record. But I think, the ground should have a better position to connect. you should take off the button cover , then you will find the ground screw and esay to tight it .

Thanks for a helpful video. Great help on getting access to the Driver Side underneath. Comment only, it looks like the Fuse Tap should've been orientated the other direction since your Load Side was on the outside position.

Thank you for the feedback. You are right, the fuse tap should have been oriented the other way around. We did do it in the vehicle but forgot to show this in the video.

Good job! by chance have you figured out how to bring a coax wire from an external CB radio antenna inside a RAV4 cabin? Is there a route from cabin to under the hood or at least down trough the floor? Thank you any way, video was helpful.

It looks like you put the fuse tap in backwards. The hot with ignition on was on the outside pin (where you put the load). It should be on the other pin for the fuse to protect it (just flip the fuse splice 180 degrees). Thanks for the video! I ran my dashcam power cable over the headliner and down the driver's side, but used this same fuse box / fuse slot!

Yes, thanks for pointing it out. The fuse tap was installed backwards initially. We fixed it later but did not show it in the video.

attach it to your stereo aac power. they all use the fuse.

There is an easier ground. It is behind the plastic panel you are holding with your left hand here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sNtph9aqvtKrfYU.html. There is a metal bolt (10MM) that works great as ground. You can then run your wire via the A pillar straight up to the windshield. I just hard wired my Uniden R3 today and it works like charm using this ground (and the washer fuse socket). Thanks for your help!

Buy an adapter that clips to the back of the rear view camera. It'll power the dash cam easily. What I did with my toyota.

Yes, you can't put it back on while using the fuse tap.

Both ways will work, but console socket is harder to reach.

For your fuse tap, how did you figure out what fuse rating to use? I see you have a 30a and 15a installed.

7:25 - original fuse rating is 3 amps.

There is a switched 12v (and ground) available on the map light console. So instead of disassembling half of dash and the passenger A pillar, you could have just removed the map light and tapped the power up there. (I power my dash cam and radar off of this harness.)

Thanks for sharing .You are right - that is really a shortest and more tempting way to get 12 v for any additional equipment placed at the windshield, but most people just afraid to vex the warranty of the brand new car.We understand that and try to find more acceptable solution for regular car user. Tapping (splicing) to the electrical wire will put you to the certain risk of overloading that circuit and further possible conflict with service department of Toyota dealership. That is why we choose legal and harmless connection to the available and empty slot in the fuse box.

@@facestar188 Both 12V "constant" and switched power are available up there. Although I have never used the constant. Some vehicles have a timer on the power to the map light to prevent lights from draining the battery.

Others connected it to the OBD port instead of hardwiring. But i heard a disadvantage that it can also drain battery? What about your method? I had my vantrue N4 cam just arrived, i added obd cable. i will install this tomorrow. Hope all goes well or maybe my 2019 Rav4 goes ka-booom! 😢😢😢. If you can give advice which option please reply.

Personally I prefer hardwiring, but there is a good news for us as users - onboard computer of that generation of RAV4 will cut power at certain voltage drop to prevent deep discharge of the battery. It will not last forever - internal discharge will drain battery anyway, but if you are using car on the daily basis and generator is charging the battery regularly and normally you will see no problem from camera/ battery operation.

Hi i have a rav4 2019 , i got a very expensive cam with 3g sim card that i can check from remote where is my car and watch so if i dont connect it directly to the power it will not work , its ok to connect it directly to the always power ?

All original power outlets(cigarette lighter or USB) will supply 12 vACC only in accessory mode(power -ON, Ignition -OFF). According to description ,your camera must have additional hardwiring cable for 12v constant or single hardwired cable for 12v constant. In this case you have no other option but wire it to 12v from fuse box or directly from battery. This generation of RAV4 will cut power before battery will be depleted completely, but anyway you have to consider power consumption of this camera if its operation going to be extensive- it may stop transmitting in parking mode abruptly, when on-board computer will cut battery power.

@@5820971 Yes, that is correct, the empty fuse slot, that close to the driver, supplies 12 v constant (even when car power is off).

No it wont work for parking with this setup. For parking mode coverage, one wire (I believe red wire) tapped to constant and other wire to Accessory power and on hardwire kit, set voltage cutoff to around 12.2 volts, maybe 12.4 volts in winter temperatures so you are able to start the vehicle or use 11:08 a dash cam external battery or two for power.

That is a serial connection, so the one that has lower current rating will break the circuit (example: pair of 7.5 and 30 amps- fuse can protect the circuit with up to 7.5 total amps only)
