Hi dear AutoFun I am from Australia and I have Toyota Camry hybrid 2013 and I believe there is no fuse box in the cabin , I believe two fuse boxes in the engine bay , if you are familiar with this . How can I route wires from engine bay fuse box to the cabin?
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 2 жыл бұрын
@@MShaafi Hi SHAAFI MEDIA! ah if there is not fuse box inside the cabin, then the installer will have to run the cable thru the car's firewall, some installers will actually drill a hole right thru it, I usually find an existing hole and route the cable thru there. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Thanks for discussing the possible interference with an airbag deployment. The general public is not knowledgeable about the design, packaging and deployment of side curtain airbags. As a retired airbag design engineer, I would hate to see a carefully designed, tested and validated supplemental restraint product not work properly because a car owner unintentionally degraded the deployment path or timing. Or injure themself in the process of making a modification.

I'm having a hard time seeing how a small wire can interfere with the airbag? The airbag being inflated happens which such a force that the cable simply would snap or being pulled with the airbag. Has this ever been tested?
@Gryph0508
@Gryph0508 Жыл бұрын
@Tobias Brage I think there is less concern that it will mess with the airbag and more concern the cable will mess with your face when it deploys.

@@Gryph0508lol, right? Or the airbag will yank the cable as it inflates and that cable will yank the dashcam, either of which ending up connecting with your face or body.

All I can say here, is that you do a darn good job on these videos! I first watched because I bought a Rove R3 Dash Camera and a hard-wiring kit, and wanted to know how best to install it. Your videos were a big help! Unlike another video I watched, you DID mention the power polarity when re-inserting the fuses. If polarity isn't observed, the dash cam may work but the circuit you plugged into may not! Lol. Thanks again.

Excellent video! I really appreciate the breakdown for this specific car model. 6:01 I will say to note, in general, ground should always be the last wire you connect. Correct me if I've overlooked anything, but the reason you connect ground last when jumpstarting is because there's a micro spark when you close the connection, and you would rather have that spark happen on your wide ground cable vs small delicate voltage connection.
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 8 ай бұрын
Thank you Red! Ah regarding the order of the connections, you have a good point. I'm not a EE but on house mains, grounded appliances have a grounding pin on their plug that is designed to make contact before Neutral or L. Now on a car, jump starting, the reason we connect the positive first is that if the negative sides are connected first, and the car chassis is bumped with the positive clamp you can create a short. By connecting positive sides first, even if the ground clips touch the body of the car nothing will happen since the car chassis it's self ground. But yeah the order of the connections really just depends on the application (and yep even if connecting negative last, there is a chance for sparks as the connection is made, now this can be an issue when jump starting the battery naturally expels gases that are combustible, which is the reason some smart jump starters or battery maintainers will only deliver power after detecting both clamps are connected eliminating the risk of a spark (and partially the reason we connected negative to the car's body not to the actual negative terminal on the battery). Cheers!

@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 9 ай бұрын
Hi Walker! That is a great question, technically they should only deploy when the car experiences a G load in a specific direction for a certain period of time (as it was to explained to my by an engineer that develops them) However, once a person starts poking and pulling around, the potential for something to cause the air bag to deploy is there. The case I mentioned, sent the tech to the ER where he lasted about a month before he passed. Tragic story and somewhat of freak accident involving an air bag assembly, nevertheless since this was something I saw first hand (the accident scene) it never left my mind. One day I will share this this story on the channel... Cheers!

Thanks for putting this video Alex!! So Awesome! Gives me more confidence to do mine as well. Quick question, is the battery drain noticeable when the 24H parking/TimeLapse option is turned on? Thanks again!
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 4 ай бұрын
You're welcome HoverPilder! Ah that will depend on the dash cam that is being used (some use more power than others while in park mode) and also depend on the car's battery, size, age, health condition and state of charge. In addition to that you also want to take in consideration any parasitic draw from other items on the vehicle that use power when the car is off. This is specially common on newer vehicles. For example I have an older Jeep that can sits for months a time with little to no battery draw, then I have a 2017 car that will almost completely drain my battery in a few weeks if the car is not used (mind you that car does not have any aftermarket devices connected to it). And here is the battery tester I use kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oal-pcmSnbi5e4k.html if you want to test your battery for capacity and health, it can also perform a parasitic draw test if needed. Cheers!

Such a great and instructive video! It touches everything that should be known for such installations. One question popped up when I watched the video: you used one of the empty fuse slots for the hardwire connection. Normally, the diagram shows how much amp that particular slot supports but there is no info regarding the empty slots on the diagram. Did you presume that the lowest would be 5A, or take a blind shot since most dashcams draw less than 5A overall? Overloading might be an issue, that is why I wanted to ask that. Best regards!

@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun Жыл бұрын
You're He tor Moreno! and thank you! ah yes regarding 2 vs 3 wire hardwire kits, the hardwire kit required will be determined by the dash cam you are using. Some require a 2 wire hardwire kit and some require a 3 wire hardwire kit. Here is a video where I explain the differences in more detail kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j9GpbMKludzbfZc.html Regarding hardwire in a hybrid, this is going to depend greatly on the Make, Model, and yr of the car. Some hybrids have a tiny car battery and a hardwire kit will not yield the same benefit as in gasoline cars with a full size battery. Also in some hybrids (and some electric EVs) are sensitive to hardwire kits and may throw a code if a hardwire kit is connected. The best way to find out if your vehicle is compatible with a hardwire kit would be to check the owners manual or contact the dealer or manufacturer to check if it is. Hope this helps, Cheers!

Should I buy a special hardwire kit for cars with autostop function? Thanks for your help. Christiam

You're welcome Christian! Ah yes some people do run their dash cams off a battery pack. However I prefer a normal cigarette lighter adapter or standard hardwire kit since here in California we experience really hot temperatures which I would not want to subject the Li-ion battery to, that and the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car. I really enjoy your install videos, very informative and very professional. Do you have experience with dash cam installs on 2023 C8's? I would appreciate your expert advise on what type of dash cam is best for that car model and any install advise? Thank you
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun Ай бұрын
Thank you Ted! Ah I haven't done an install on a C8 yet but most installs for the most part are very similar (same techniques and challenges). Regarding a good dash cam for the C8, there are some good options out there. Just depends on what you are looking for in a dash cam. I run different ones on my cars so what I usually tell people looking for the right dash cam for them is to start by picking the style of dash cam (Mirror or classic stick). Then how many cameras does it need to have (1, 2 or 3). Now that you have narrowed your selections, consider how much you want to spend on one, that will narrow your choices even further. Then consider any special features you are looking for such as 360° video, Side Camera, Wi-Fi, Parking monitor without hardwire, cloud support, High Frame Rate. Finally you would want to compare video quality. I have several dashcam reviews on my channel under the playlist "dashcams" if you like to compare them. Cheers!

Hi! I'm trying to hardwire a dashcam to my Corolla as well but I'm running into a problem and am wondering if you can help. I tested the fuses for the wipers and the washing mechanism and they did not light up when the car was turned off. I plugged in my dashcam in the fuse and plugged in the wiper fuse as well. However, when I plugged in the dashcam, it turned on when I hadn't turned on the car. According to the instructions, this means I plugged it into a fuse with no power or one with constant power. Hi. Great video. I have a 2021 Toyota C-HR. I'm going to assume that he fuse box is probably in the same location as the one in this video. I'm a little weary about installing the cable in or around the pillar where the airbag is located. I was thinking about taking my car to a professional to do this, but looking around, the cheapest deal I could find to have it professionally installed starts at $150.00. Kind of expensive for the amount of time it takes to get this done....hence the reason for me looking at doing it myself. I have my dash cam in the center of the windshield. Just wondering what your thoughts are on a newbie doing this wiring. Thanks.
