Song from under the floorboards was the song that fully expressing me back in the days,Devotto was singing my life literally.For me although I much like and respect Morrisey,no one can cover the excellency of Magazine in that song(the pomposity of Devotto and that fckn Barry Adamsons baseline were out of this world)

I adore this song, especially the way Moz changed "I know a good thing when I see it" to "I know a good thing when I speak it." it's a telling example of how Morrissey has mastered the craft of being so very deliciously egotistical with lyricism.

Agggh. One of his best covers. His singles from Ringleader of The Tormentors will always be special to me. I had just became obsessed with Morrissey in 06. Saw him live on the Ringleader tour before the album came out and have continued to be obsessed ever since. His last truly great album in my books. Still love ‘em to pieces tho. Morrissey forever

A Magazine concert in the Lyceum, London, was one of my most memorable live shows ever. What Morrissey does with this song of theirs is amazing: it gives it a certain lightness to this dark song that makes it perhaps not only more accessible, but also lighter.

Morrissey - A Song From Under The Floorboards - Studio Version 0136am 3.11.23 not as good, certainly not, as the original. anyhow; they haven't actually "shared a song".... i think the statement might have referred to: doin' a duet. would that be hideous, do you think??? probably...

***** That is not an improvement on the original. He lacks conviction in the lyrics and lacks the nuance and snap of Devoto's delivery. Also he criminally changes words. That's not to say I don't rate him or like his version - it's good to hear someone make a decent stab at an absolute classic.
@ciphermatrix
@ciphermatrix 10 жыл бұрын
***** So you can opine but no one else can? Purlease, get over yourself. You made the bold claim whilst pompously berating another poster - I merely posted my opinion and backed up my reasons for holding that position. Any suggestion that my opinion is more than just that is simply projection of your own insecurity.
@ciphermatrix
@ciphermatrix 10 жыл бұрын
***** Your use of cod psychology and your attempts to belittle someone with a different opinion - which was proffered in no stronger a manner than your own - does not make you an intellectual, it makes you look like an arrogant tosspot. Conditioned ignorance - you really think suggesting other people's opinions are less free than your own is going to win you any arguments? You appear to like "the truth". The truth is, Magazine wrote and created an absolutely brilliant song. As with most brilliant songs it is a rare occasion that someone improves upon the original. Morrissey, in MY fucking opinion, does a good job with the song but in no way does he improve upon it. Anyone viewing this little conversation do yourselves a favour, listen to the original and see what you think. Just remember to post your opinion, particularly if it differs to the pompous amateur psychologist i2v2s's, with a fair smattering of "IMHO"s - lest, instead of substantiating his own opinion, will simply indulge in strawmen, ad homs and psychobabble!

***** If anyone is laughing I can assure you they are laughing at you with your self-aggrandizing posting style and desperation to appear clever whilst belittling anyone who has a viewpoint contrary to your own. I could post a lengthy, loquacious discourse on the rest of your ridiculous post but for the sake of brevity: It's my opinion, get fucking over it.

I hate it when I have to totally re-evaluate a musician or a band. I always knew Morrisey's had something to him even in the 80s back when I was really, really not a Smiths fan. If I was feeling mean I might accuse Morrissey of being a very, very poor man's Bryan Ferry. Morrissy is certainly NO Bryan Ferry and I suspect Morrisey, along with many other musicians prefer to avoid any unfavorable direct comparison with Bryan Ferry but I dig solo Morrisey! In decades past I wouldn't have guessed I would EVER say that but there it is! Next stop:The Smiths demo of ''The Death Of A Disco Dancer'' ''Meat is murder''? Johnny Rotten: ''It's okay to eat cows though because they are really, really stupid...''
