I love Elvis singing this and Moz you did it brilliantly, God I got goosebumps when I saw this!!! I've been an Elvis fan since I was a young child and I still am, ill love Elvis forever and Morrissey, Morrissey to me comes a very close second to Elvis. another Elvis Song I could hear Morrissey singing and I think this every time I hear Elvis sing it.It's called Heart Of Rome :-) I just think Morrissey would sing this brilliantly like he did You'll Be Gone :-)

Elvis co-wrote this obscure number. Only Morrissey would unearth this treasure and make it his own. Love Morrissey AND Presley.

+Dan O'Malley Actually Elvis never wrote this. It was Red West and Charlie Hodge but Elvis' manager insisted Elvis' name go on as one of the writers.. Story behind Elvis' version is that Elvis wanted to record 'Begin the Beguine' and change the lyrics but the composer Cole Porter refused. So they changed the tune slightly and the title.

Not true, Red told me that he presented Elvis with the melody and Elvis and Charlie put words to it. "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" is another one with Elvis' credit, although on this occasion he contributed little more than the title relating to his mother.

+Dan O'Malley You are wrong. I met Red West a couple of months ago at an Essential Elvis event and he explained quite clearly that he wrote the song. In several other interviews on the internet Red explains that Elvis never wrote this or any other song. Elvis was a great song arranger, not a song writer. In the Ken Sharp book 'Writing For The King' there is an interview in there about You'll Be Gone'. Go to Google and type in ' Red West remembers writing for the king' and see the first result. Its an interview with Red from the book and he explains about writing the song.

I cannot stop watching this like it's mesmerising,he absolutely nailed it and at the end there God Moz if you read any of these comments I just wanna say how brilliant that was, I love Elvis and I love this song and wow did you do it justice I think you should do an Elvis Song opener more often :-)

Red West, Ernst Jorgensen, and Priscilla Presley all confirm that Elvis Presley co-wrote "You'll Be Gone". Jorgensen wrote: "When Priscilla came to visit Elvis in the U.S. in the spring of 1962, Elvis proudly played her the new recordings he had just made in Nashville. One of these was 'You'll Be Gone,' a song that he had written himself with his good friends Red West and Charlie Hodge. To his deep frustration, Priscilla remarked that she liked his rock 'n' roll recordings better. Elvis had a fit, Priscilla was devastated, and Elvis never tried to write a song again." In Elvis by the Presleys Priscilla noted: "The reason we've included it is because it's the last time Elvis ever wrote a song." Red West explained that the entire idea for the song was 100% by Elvis: "Elvis recorded 'It's Now Or Never' and he wanted to take another old standard that was a great song and change the lyrics. ... He said 'I like the song "Begin the Beguine". I like the melody but I'd like to put new lyrics on it.'" The song was published by Elvis Presley Music. "Co-wrote" in this case means he was involved in the composition or creation of the song, not that he wrote a musical score or sat down at the typewriter and wrote out the verses. His name is on the songwriting credit because he contributed to the composition or creation of the song.
