I think this surprise pretty much indicates that in this current timeline, which will be the one explored, they won't be together. It will be interesting to see how the story will go down in this timeline. I sense Liu Kang going through a lot of stress and pain, seeing many deaths, having to take difficult decisions, and possibly seeing his universe slowly descending into chaos (after all, it's MK).

@@kamian6677 I just don't like how many story arcs it crammed in at once, Characters like Stryker and Kung Lao were really underutilized, and the animation looked like it was rushed compared to Scorpions Revenge.

@@RGF91 The Injustice games were also made by Netherrealm Studios. The plot basically focuses on a parallel universe where Joker used kryptonite laced gas to trick Superman into killing Lois Lane. This dialogue most likely is a reference to that plotline. (And because they did both games, they had cross over characters in each series).

Hm... I think it's implied they are together in another timeline (among many others), not on this current new one (hence the surprise of the second Kitana). So yeah, I think in this new timeline, which will be the one explored, they won't be together. I could be wrong, tho, and they may end up together in this timeline too.

@@mariapuder6283 I understand what you mean, but I don't know in this new continuity. LK is now a God, and has heavy duties ahead of him. Not only that, but clinging to personal feelings could cloud his actions and judgments as a God, so yeah... Unless somehow Kitana also becomes an entity, I'd not be optimistic about them together. Let's see what happens though 🤷🏽‍♂️

Maybe the story is that Liu Kang and Shang Tsung's final battle in Mk11 created two realities where they are both the keepers of time and now Shang Tsung is trying to merge/invade the other one, sending his version of the MK cast to face their counterparts from Liu kang's reality. It kinda explains some of the dialogue between mirror matches. A Mortal Kombat tournament not for the invasion of just one realm, but of an entire reality.

I have a theory. Kenshi asked himself who's the keeper of time of his universe and his reply was Kano. Also one of Liu Kang's universe is ruled by Onaga while the other is a martial arts Superstar like Johnny. I think there's some truth that both mk11 endings are cannon with shang tsung being a keeper of time. What I believe is going on is that multiple kombatants from different universes are becoming keepers of time to a point it's causing an imbalance in the multiverse causing them to merge into one where all the keepers and thier chosen fighters will fight for the fate of the multiverse.

Mortal Kombat 1 intros: "no more questions, now you die" It is klever how Mortal Kombat 1 uses the character interactions to hide the loading screen.
