Sorry if this is obvious, I’m pretty stoned and just watched a lot of mirror matches and it occurred to me the characters have versions and personalities tied literally to their skins currently in the game. Kanos Mk3 skin with the red vest and bald, is actually Kano from MK3, not Kano from MK9 but during the events of 3, where he has a similar skin in that story. You could just say mirror matches don’t count and they are just for fun, but listen to them closer. Each one has questions and such from the other timelines versions. Hopefully that makes sense. Another instance that really stuck out is Cassie with her futuristic armor skin that tunes the drone super advanced. The Cassie we know doesn’t have that type of armor or tech yet, just her spec ops gear and basic drone. Plus the fiture one has dialogue to raiden about how he cost her her mom. So this is a totally different Cassie while she’s in this skin. So “young Johnny” in the story isn’t Johnny from Mk9, the past of MKX. It’s the retro Johnny from the original timeline where everything played through. The same case with scorpion I think, but from like mk2 or something. Since those are the skins that show up in the story, I mean. Hell more than 2 could show up since each character has 3 skins in the game at this point, they could add more but it’s looking like 3 for release with different shaders.

Kano looks so..soft and that voice isn't that grumpy and fierce. Maybe that's because he is younger than the mk9/X versions ? Cassie looks and sounds stunning..miss the previous voice actress and those "sup" sounds meh and are gonna get tired really fast. Johnny Cage is perfect.old voice actor,same humor and attitude.he still got it....and his second intro looks like he is dabbing with one hand XD.
