⚙️ EPISODE #202: Using a router to cut mortises is fast, cheap, and effective. Don’t get me wrong, I love using a hollow chisel mortiser when I can but what if you don’t own one, or the situation calls for something else? Good news, the plunge router you likely already have can cut excellent mortises in a snap! In this episode I show you a couple of my favorite methods to use when routing mortises. So take the plunge and check out the video for cutting edge techniques! (Closed captioned)

could use router table with dust collection and a stop on each side. then raise the bit to start the mortise, run the piece over the bit to the other side, then raise the bit again, do another pass to finish the depth...

Another great video. There is always something new to learn. The quick and dirty router support using carpet tape is pure genius. I have made a second fence for my router out of plywood scraps, some threaded inserts and screws. It works really well. Having said that, making a jig and using a guide bush is my preferred method of cutting mortices as it is so much more consistent.

Always great with Friday Morning Coffee...I'm a bit filthy, dusty, sweaty(add older than when I began this old farm,) cutting out chimney I created 25years ago, for a 200 year old stone chimney wife and I bought recently...Still haven't found any gold buried in the kitchen/dining room wall...cheers...richard/ Normandy, Fra.

Hi, great video. What kind of bushings are those. I have an of1400 myself and was wondering what brand they are to make sure they fit. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!

Hi Ben, they were Porter Cable bushings, but no worries on the fit given they are universal and all the different brands I have tried have fit each router I have had. Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching! 👍
