We picked this 1971 Ford Ranger XLT up in eastern Montana this fall. It had been sitting in a salvage yard and was last registered in 1998. It's got a 360 cubic inch FE engine and C6 automatic transmission. Lets see if we can get this thing back on the road!

I always like the Ford FE engines. They are good engines if you maintain them. Most people fall sadly short in that department...As was evidenced by the fact that it was a gallon low on oil. I'd bet the missing radiator was full of oil when they pulled it.

I bought a 1970 F100 XLT ranger with 302 auto for $1500 a few years ago. It had sat in a barn for 14 years the previous owner sprayed it off and put it up for sale. I drove it home after diluting the nasty gas with fresh gas enough to get it running and a new battery and did NOTHING ELSE. Ran fairly decent for about a year and i sold it to a highway cop in the next county for $3500. Solid ol truck.

you learned a valuable lesson about Ford FE engines or for that matter most rocker-arm engines. If they sit for a while they stick the rocker-arm shafts. next time pull the valve covers and check first. and old Ford fart. btw I just subscribed recently and so far I like your style. reminds me of some of our midnight oil sessions around a race car.

I must of been lucky with my '72 F100 360 that had been sat in a field in Oklahoma for 10 years before I shipped her to the UK, got her up and running in around an hour, idling rough but have since rebuilt the Carb and added Pertronix to the distributor and she runs sweet now. changing the trans cooling lines so I can run her up to temp to fine tune with Vacuum gauge and started on the floor repairs.

"If'n you caint get the fire hap'nin' in the cylinder, light off the carb and jest let the valves suck that fire right in there." Could hear she only had a couple of lungs working, but still hoped she'd fire. Ah well, you can't win 'em all, mate. She's got a good body though. Be a good rig to drop a big block in - Chev of course! By the way, the engine you have turning over and firing at the start of each video when your logo is up - starter sounds like SBC, but the way she pops off and idles sounds like a flathead V8. You able to tell a feller what it is or do you want to keep it a secret?

@@mikep60 yea the one I jumped off the cliff landed on my neighbor's brand new Chevy 4×4 and cushioned my fall, the ford turned the Chevy into a pancake lol. He was more upset than I thought he would be when he got home from work lol after that everyone was calling me evel knievel of ky so I decided not to get another ford. Lol. That was 20 years ago so I guess it was a good choice. Lolol. After I landed on the Chevy and realized I wasn't dead I fired it up and it backed right off. Lol it was 4×4 all raised up. When I was flying through the air it was so quiet. I couldn't even hear the engine

@@MortskeRepair i thought it was a 360. That’s what your buddy Robert said. Anyway, it still amazes me with how little you have to do to some of these engines to get them to run after 20 years. Very impressive
