I hate how people think 100 yards is impressive and they need a scope to go farther than that. It's refreshing to see u guys reach out there with these rifles and see real accuracy
@sparkplug1018

My general train of thought is, I only need a scope at range to get smaller groups. Hitting a 22 inch round at 600 off irons shouldn't be a problem for anyone. But I guess people like to play sniper and need that impressive scope (or at least they think so anyway).

Yup I can hit 600 with my mosin all day iron sights. I use my 24 power AR10 for perfect shots. Took me 5 rds out of my AR10 to figure out hold over with cross hairs. Mosin 3 shots. 1 shot foot high foot left. 2nd shot 6 inchs left 3rd shot contact....4th shot contact 5th shot contact. Once I know the hold over its on haha. Coyote sized target at 617 cheap 200gr FMJ wolf copper bullets. My .308 was match ammo. I can only imagine what the 174gr match kings for the 54r will do when I load them

Wait until you get some age on you and your eyes don't work as they used to. I have the iron sights on mine but every year it seems to get harder to see the target. Where you are, I once was. Where I am now, you will soon be. Until then keep on shootin.

I think it would be cool to have a third camera view over the shooters right shoulder to give perspective on how far you are actually shooting, as well as possibly catching some bullet trace.

A note to everyone who's amazed at the 600-yard videos - that's a STANDARD distance, along with 200 & 300, for iron-sighted service rifles. ALL of the WWI & WWII infantry rifles - Garands, Springfields, Enfields, Mosins, Mausers, Arisakas, etc, in good condition and with service-grade ammo, should give creditable groups on common targets through the distances in the NRA/DCM High-Power course. I suggest putting these classic rifles through the actual HP Service Rifle course of fire on video if you want to show something really interesting. That's really the basic course to show proficiency with a service rifle, and "long range" STARTS when you venture past it.

Oh most definitely, in a lot of instances, i won't say most, but a lot of instances, i would much prefer him to be the point man, partially because he gets the point across extremely well, eric seems to have a tendency to be fairly rude at times, and that's a very large no-go/ turn off for me, and Chad is just very personable.

I take my 1937 Izzy to a long range fun steel shoot and varmint shoot over 40 targets ranges from 200 to 617 yards. I used 200gr FMJ.wolf ammo. 3rd shot hit a coyote sized target at 617. Best 90 dollars I ever spent on my mosin. Shooting 3inch prairie dog targets standing off hand at 300 yards got me free lunch that day. I even had a guy offer to pay for me to come to IN to try and shoot a 36 inch target at 1000 with it. Love your videos keep up the good work!

My Mosins all were picked up at gun shows and all the barrels were close to if not already over the high limit on the bores. That being said , as they get hot the bore gets even bigger till the bullet pinballs down the bore so bad you couldn't hit a barn from the inside.I also love to shoot Mosins , once I put about 50 rounds thru one of my tighter ones and it kicked so hard I spit out a filling on the way home. I took one with a barrel that was way shot out and made it into my 200+ yard target rifle. I found a guy in Finland who was parting out M39s and bought a barrel for $40.00. After going over all the parts ( and doing a trigger job the way it was done in the field by the regular soldiers , but that is another story ) I put the Russian receiver and finnish barrel together. That was the start of much research because the head space was almost a mm. tight and the bolt wasn't even close when chambering a round. Then I found the M39 took a 7.62x53r round. The only way to fix this was to machine .030" clearance on the receiver for the bolt lug ( I own a machine shop ) . After that was made right I cut off the dovetail for the rear sight and T.I.G. welded a custom made scope mount to the receiver , made a new bolt handle , bipod and muzzle brake. An Arch-Angel stock and Vortex crossfire scope finished the project . At 200 yd. it puts 180 grain PPU on a soup can lid all day. I'm going to try to put up some pictures of the gun soon.

It's interesting to hear all the Fudd-lore about Mosin bayonets and their effect on accuracy. All it really should do is change point of impact (while retaining the same level of accuracy), but perhaps there is something about its mounting method that has a positive impact on the barrels harmonics.

Most aren't well fitted in the random stock they got thrown in after the refurb and people are using surplus ammo. A good example with a shim kit and good ammo can hang with most of the rifles of that era. This rifle has shot as good or better than ALL the surplus rifles they have pushed to this distance.

I bought a Mosin action a few years ago. I cleaned it up and bedded it in a thumb hole stock and mounted a 6x24 scope. Shooting 174 gr 303 bullets at a 100 yard target I was able to shoot a 5 round pattern inside a 1 inch circle. I think that with a better shooter those 5 rounds would have made one hole.

If you were a conscript during WW2 you would get those round Harry Potter glasses. Also you would get promoted to sniper with this kind of shooting at 600 yards. Every squad would have one or two riflemen who would assist the squad leader with range finding and they were issued tracer and armor piercing ammo. The squad would usually have 9-11 soldiers, consisting of riflemen, sub-machine gunners and leg team. Some squads would have two lmg.

Nice smooth action. Heavier bullets almost always give superior performance in military rifles.

ive found that firing long ranges with the mosin on iron sights that if the rifle is slightly tilted it really does throw off the sight balance

I thought myself to shoot with a Mosin. They're not a rifle to underestimate.

Same my 1937 M91/30 Izzy Laminate was the first gun I ever bought at 18. 11 years later I can smack 600 yard targets with it with ease. I've even ran it in 3 gun competition and beat 8 people who where using an AR15
