FYI on lockouts-- a power meter is measuring your output power, not the metabolic effort required to generate it. You can expend quite a lot more energy to produce the same power numbers, which is what happens when you bob from pedaling. Controlling your body and activating the rebound damper has a cost. The comparison gets murky when the terrain has bumps that would jostle you if the suspension was locked out. Jostling (converting forward momentum to vertical) is a significant energy loss.

I love my Trance!

I can see why your times would be the same with and without lockouts, unless you’re slipping there shouldn’t be a noticeable difference in time, but have you noticed a difference in how you feel? Are you feeling more exhausted or no difference? I have a theory that the shock movement causes you to exert more energy when pedaling. When you pedal on an open shock, the bike bobs up and down, meaning some of your energy is going into the bob as your foot is traveling further up and down. A stiffer shock would cause a more circular foot movement with more energy going into tire rotation.

Being new to mountain biking I'm thinking it would be cool to have a dropper post that automatically drops when it detects the bike going backwards.

Tons of gadgets for those with really deep pockets. Not sure will stuff like Flight Attendant help every day bikers, because not sure how most of us can really dial in bikes 100%, nor we are aware of the nuances. Pros on the other hand, feels to me, want 100% control, so not sure will they be willing to be dependent on some gadget. But I might be wrong. That's a nice bike. Had no idea Giant started to release 2023 models. Interested in what the regular Trance 29 will be specced. Love the new logo. Less is more, I think. What do you think, will aluminium models soon start to receive down tube storages? Great video Mossie, keep em coming!
