French Line Normandie is by far the best looker here with a design that still holds up today. Just a side note. The wires above the superstructure in all cases are not to scale (way too thick), the wrong color (s/b a dk. grey not black) and thus obtrusively noticeable.

Man! I love the United States, the Andrea Doria, the Norway and the Normandie! Here's a bit of info for you: I actually own a life-jacket from the United States and a few menus. On the subject of ship menus, one of the gems of my liner collection is an actual menu from the Italian liner, Andrea Doria.... dated a couple months before her tragic sinking in July, 1956! Now, my obvious quetion: Where did you purchase the magnificent replicas? They are stunningly breathtaking!

Beautiful collection. As I understand it, the SS Norway, ex SS France, when Norway took delivery of the ship, two engines were removed. She would only have two props/screws. I have most of these models and I have always wondered which two engines and props were removed? Inboard or outboard? Thank you for your dedication, I build model ships for a living, full time, 28 years.

I didn't not make these models although I have my own but these are crafted by SD model makers. I saw some images of their work and thought I should make a video of these awesome models. As to scale, well the one's that I assemble are I/400 and I would say these are 1/100 since you can see more detail... glad you liked the video Bruce..

Some random thoughts while watching the slide presentation: I wish we could make the United States looks like this model again. Do a cosmetic restoration to the exterior and put it on display. Modern cruise ships are offensive to the eye. Do the designers work on making them so ugly? The Rex was senselessly destroyed in WWII. If the city of Long Beach, CA could preserve the Queen Mary, why can't the US Government preserve the United States? The Norway should be modeled in its "France" configuration. Some of the changes made to that ship while in cruise service junked up its appearance a bit.
@vilstef69884 жыл бұрын
When I saw the Queen Mary in Long Beach some years ago, I was aware of its dimensions but was still a bit surprised at how small it seemed. I had seen pictures of The Normandie's bridge, and it was really beautiful! Queen Mary's bridge looked like something out of the 1880s. Just the conservative building practices of John Brown and Cunard, I guess.

It's interesting to me that even Majesty of the Seas one of the first of the MEGA cruise ships still looks shiplike and reasonably graceful. In fact I still contend that Royal Caribbean does a better job of making their ships look attractive on the outside than any of the other modern ships. Of course no cruise ship has ever been as beautiful as the old ocean lines but there is a little thick around the middle and blocky and then there is downright ugly!!! But notice with Majesty she has a much sharper bow than many of the ships that followed her, beautiful open bridge wings, and superstructure set further back than many other current cruise ships. She also has a gracefully rounded cruiser stern instead of a squared off blocky transom. The most beautiful ship on this video to me is still Mauritania and then probably Normandie and finally the post WW2 Italian ships....... My favorites are United States and Norway, the one because of her record breaking speed and my pride that she is American and the other because I actually got the chance to sail on her as she looked here. I felt so lucky even then to be on her standing on the bridge wing during a bridge tour and looking down that long long hull as we were underway.

These models are really lovely. A few corrections and comments. "Majesty of the Seas" and "QM2" are cruise ships, not ocean liners. The initial model is too short to be "United States", but is more likely, "America", which resembled the "U.S."; in my opinion, "Normandie" was the most beautiful ship ever constructed. "Norway" was the old "France", with God-awful modifications. The paint scheme shown is totally incorrect. Conversely, your "Cristophor Columbo" is very complete, as is the "Andrea Doria". "Bremen" and "Europa" retain some of their stack height differences, characteristic of their service years. Overall, very nice.
@sealover58617 жыл бұрын
The QM2 is actually designed and classified as an ocean liner and she does regular transatlantic crossings a big part of the year. She's also a R.M.S. (Royal Mail Ship) and the only active ocean liner in the world today.
@ashleighelizabeth59164 жыл бұрын
Queen Mary 2 is indeed an ocean liner though not as beautiful as QE2 or the ships that preceded her. It could be argued that Norway was also a cruise ship though she was converted from an ocean liner. Majesty is indeed a cruise ship, second of the new build mega liners behind Sovereign. But she still displays many of the characteristics that so many of the ugly modern ships lack, a finer bow entry, rounded cruiser stern and open bridge wings for example.

It's nice to see these well executed models which are of ships which have a lot of beauty engineered into them. The modern cruiser/superships are ugly AF, and without the pointy bow would look so much like a landbound hotel-which in many ways including business plan, they are modeled on.

first of all when we saw this video we knew it will have Titanic cause we found out about Titanic in 1962 and we found the wreck sight in 1985 and then we found out how the Titanic sank in 2012 but in 2015 and maybe 2016 we dont know why the stern is more destroyed then the bow
@CaptainSmith238 жыл бұрын
+Braeden Mikesell The stern is destroyed because it was filled with air and the bow section filled with water, plus the stern didn't fall straight down, she spiraled out of control so when she hit the ocean floor her sides peeled away and the poop deck peeled back because of the water rushing through, the cranes came off on impact with the sea floor.....
@nono79478 жыл бұрын
oh the video i saw i got bored and so i didnt hear that
@1940limited7 жыл бұрын
Captain Smith answered your question succinctly! The Titanic was pretty much totally destroyed in the sinking. What a shame. I'm sure it's interior went all to hell in short order, too and way before the wreck was found. You don't submerge wood, carpeting, linens and tapestry in the ocean for very long before it's destroyed just like a house in a flood.
