Not really, these people genuinely thought that sacrifices would do something for them or protect them from their gods.
@aabattery065 жыл бұрын
Back then those people did not have the same knowledge as we do now, if something happened they needed a way to explain it, hence the many gods and religions around the world, but if something bad happened they thought that the gods were angry and needed a sacrifice to appease them, sure some may have been sadistic, but if people were dying by a natural disaster, anyone would do anything, and so they sacrificed people to stay safe. TL;DR people were not as advanced as us so the thought that pleasing the gods by sacrificing someone would help in a time of need.

Didn't the Aztecs use Mayan pyramids a whole lot?
@Ivan-Manzo5 жыл бұрын
Mayan and aztec pyramids are fundamentally different, bot in their architecture and religious purposes. They where dedicated to different gods, and the architecture doesn't match. You can tell the piramyd shown in this video is mayan because there is one single staircase per side of the pyramid and because there is one single temple on top of it, if it where an aztec piramyd there would be a double staircase and two temples on top. There are TONS of differences just betwen mayan and aztec piramyds, but that's the simplest way to tell them apart when not taking into consideration the architecture of the piramyds of other mesoamerican cultures, such as that of the Tarascans. Other ways you can tell mayan and aztec piramyds apart is by the motif carved into sufaces, the stile such as the "talud-tablero" seen in each level of the piramyd (it's more common to northern and central Mexico, you don't see it a lot in the south), what kind of statues were there. For example, a chac-mool, a kind of statue where offerings where deposited after sacrifices, would be caracteristic of the aztec and tarascan cultures, yet you can also see it in late mayan piramyds after a lot of sincretism happened a coulple of centuries before the arrival of the spanish, etc. And much, much more differences that I do not have time to wirte here. Mesoamerican art from precolumbian times is one of the most impressing and beautiful things I've ever seen, which is what drove me to study art history, if you have time to look into this ancient cultures please do it, you won't regret it.

I visited chichen itza in Mexico. The guides told us that the Maya volunteered to be sacrificed. The priests would give them a form of liquor made from a flower that numbed the sacrifice and then they would cut them similar to the Aztec way. They often did this after the Mayan Ball Game, the winners were given the “honour” to be sacrificed. The interesting thing is that it was all voluntary.

I can't stand how many people just conform to this, and won't even agree to pay the teachers a minimum $8/he per child per day, as any babysitter would be paid. Not taking into account that they aren't only watching our kids, they are literally teaching them. That deserves so much more than the pitiful pay they receive. Remember, class, Rome's gladiator fights have their origin as human sacrifice. And to think, at your funeral, people will just say sentimental things about you instead of beating each other senseless.

Well I am surprised to see that you did not include India in the list. As recent as the 19th-20th century, women who were widowed, were sacrificed in huge numbers. They were burned alive. This was done because the Indians believed that this would bring peace and salvation to the dead husband. The Indians were hence, as brutal as the Aztecs.
