Awesome video... Thank you! I was stationed at Keflavik back in 1968-1969 and joined the Navy Flying Club. I got my Icelandic license there and flew all over the place there, including the Vestmannaeyjar islands including flying over and around Surtsey. I wish I had video of my flights up there... but all I have is a few old slides and many great memories which now seem like a dream. Iceland is a beautiful Country... I am sure it is a lot different now than when I was there. I have flown many hours up there in Ercoupes, Cessna 150's and Cessna 172's....

Great video. To solve the argument as to whether a Bonanza or a 210 is better just ask yourselves this. Would you rather sit in the sun and look at the wings or sit in the shade and look at the view.

In the Cessna you get to look at the wings and the view, and you are in the shade Cessna wins
@ProspectorsGhost

I prefer Cessna's myself, or at least any high-wing plane. With High-Wing planes the weight is supported under the wings where it should be for proper stabilization due to gravitational pull. With Low-Wing planes the weight is above the wings making for a top-heavy situation with the weight itself always wanting to flip the plane upside down to return the weight itself to the bottom of the supporting wing structure where it wants to be or should be, so trying to keep it on top of the supporting wing structure is generally continuous unnecessary maneuvers unconsciously performed by the pilot to keep that weight on top rather than allowing it to flip the plane upside down with the weight underneath where gravitational pull wants it to be. Oh Yes, I'm quite sure there will be many pilots especially those Low-Wing pilots who are so dead set upon being in love with and partial to their Low-Wing planes that they will do their best to refute this. But they never stop to look at it from a gravity pulling point of view. Oh, Yes, I respect their point of view, but it still isn't going to change my point of view. Besides have you (or anyone else for that matter), ever seen a parachute, or a para-glider with the Jumper or the cargo on top of the parachute, as it is descending, or a helicopter with the rotor blades upon the bottom? Never happen. Gravity will always win out in the end, usually with disastrous results. But, I salute those Low-Wing Pilots who insist upon continuously wanting to unconscionably fight to keep that weight above the supporting wing structure rather than let gravity have its way, it's their choice not mine. I've never parachuted in my life, or even used a para-glider. But if I chose to do so (which I ain't going to do), I'm not about to try and stand upon the top of the parachute or para-glider as it descends, I prefer that it supports me rather than me trying to support it.

Thanks for showing the terrain outside of Reykjavik. This brought back memories for me since I spent one year in Iceland at a USAF Radar site on a mountaintop on the northeast corner of Iceland located on the Langanese Peninsula. Traveled in a 1953 Ford station wagon from Keflavik to Akureyri in June 1959. Our destination was the Radar site in Langanese, but we were snowed in and had to catch a flight the rest of the way. While at the Radar site, we acquired 3 Icelandic horses - I was able to explore a lot of that part of Iceland on horseback using an English saddle - pretty tricky going up and down the small mountains. I was 23 years old and the experience added a few years to me.

50 years ago when I worked in a garage to get big tyres onto a rim we poured a little bit of petrol into the tyre, let it evaporate and then applied a match (held on the end of a long stick). There was a hell of a bang and the tyre was nicely seated on the rim. I've flown over Greenland quite a lot, though at FL300+, and even from there the views are amazing. I recall wondering what caused the pollution flowing out of one of the fiords and realising as we got closer that it was thousands of icebergs. Of course, you are crazy. Flying anywhere in that part of the world in a single piston engine aircraft, particularly over a lot of water, is braver than I would ever dare to be. Although I recall a colleague who joined us from Pilatus when flying twin jets direct across the ocean was a new idea asking what we were worried about. He had 99 single engine Atlantic crossings in his logbook. Mind you, that was a turboprop. My wife says if it doesn't have a toilet and a bar then she won't fly in it. I don't go quite that far myself. It's a good thing someone is crazy enough and brave enough to make such a great video. Respect.
