Wow, what a video. I flew into Wick from Alesund, Norway a few years ago. Had an intermittent rough-running engine for the last hour of the journey and spent some time dismantling my carbs next to that WW2 control tower. Forever etched into my mind in intricate detail because I was pretty certain I was going to end up putting it the sea. I stayed overnight in Wick and the next day the aircraft ran fine again - never worked out what the problem was. I really loved flying in these upper latitudes - the raw isolation, and the unique weather you find up there, really makes it seem that you're sat right on top of the planet. The one thing no-one talks about with general aviation is how small it makes the world feel. Because you conscious of your position, and speed over the land, you get a sense of the scale of the earth in a way that you don't from and airliner at 30,000ft. I think if everyone understood how small this lump of rock really was, people would behave a lot better towards each other.

What a great compilation video and some obviously very competent young crew. With my brother in 1976 we flew a Baron Calgary , PA, Churchill,Coral Harbour (due weather ) Sondestrom, Iceland and on to Scotland. What an exciting trip with only NDB and D/R nav and HF radio. You guys obviously got better weather than us and your narrative is really down to earth. Eventually we carried on to New Zealand the long way home. What an exciting trip that was in the pre GPS days. Your videos bought back some great memories for me after 59 years in the saddle.. Many thanks

Hey guys, awesome videos! 230 hrs in the book here. AMEL/IA/PPL. Also a radio comms nerd. Regarding the cell signal, a quick thought is the rule on line of site radio. Useable signal for both vhf air comms and cell comms can be estimated by this formula. Approx distance in miles = 1.33 x sq rt (transmitter height in feet). So 7000 ft would equal roughly 100 miles of usable radio range plus however high the ground station antenna is. Safe travels and blue skies!

Well done brought back a lot of memories. I am now retired and flew a lot in my middle years, logged about 600 hours. Most of my long trips in a Piper Arrow eg UK to Corsica. Towards the end of my flying I flew Jodel's - a superb French tail dragger, with just map and compass. I worked in the USA for two years and flew from Rockford IL in the mighty Piper Saratoga. It was all great fun but it soaked up a lot of my money.

Music at 23:00 with the fire was excellent, but I'm 60 and an unrepentant rocker ;-). Been going thru these in sequence since your flight over Baffin bay to Nuuk. Mostly enjoyable for an old CAP aviation buff, non-pilot. Very cool ground excursions here in Scotland and previously in Iceland.

At 17:33, that's Ackergill Tower at the bottom of Sinclair's Bay, with Castle Sinclair Girnigoe up at the top right of land. Castle Sinclair Girnigoe is a mix of a 15th century castle, with early 17th add-ons comprising Castle Sinclair. One of the earliest seats of Clan Sinclair - my family clan! Scots Wha Hae! Great videos, guy - keep up the great work.
