Hi Sam excellent video, new to your channel, I retired from the the prison service after 34 years , started at strangeways, your blog brings back so many memories for me , I was happy to leave in the end, manning levels slashed , morale at a all time low ,new recruitment strategy, bringing in new entrant officers who were totally unsuitable, but the comerardery amongst the staff I worked with was priceless, take care sam and keep on posting!

My mate 1998 was at work oppositte my desk 23 of us in an office it was mad busey . His misses phoned him she said ive had a miss carage. on a friday midday at home, We were snowed under. He said boss ive got to go wifes ill boss . the boss said if you walk out now dont come back monday you know we are buisy . My mate just went. The boss shouts out you wont be seeing him again the Tosser . He got sacked .

Morning Sam.....Stephen! Another great walk and talk thanks. Management often struggle to justify themselves, especially when workers organize themselves well and are motivated. They set about fixing things that aren't broken by means of fresh labeling. 'Benchmarking' etc....gobbledygook corporate talk for "we need to do something to prove we're necessary". Such steps give the impression of making progress while in fact they are backward steps, the repercussions of which are passed back to the staff who are required to implement the changes. Unfortunately, this kind of crap is not new, there are existing records of similar 'reorganising' BS within the Roman army.....2000 years ago!

It’s not just the prison service that is managed by tossers. I’m an RGN and worked permanent nights on my ward. I worked with a great team who had been on the ward years just like me, we knew the job inside out as did those who worked days. The tosser managers at head office decided that nurses on nights were de-skilling so wanted all RGN to do the full 24 hr rota. (This was completely wrong because we still had all the monitoring eg IVI’s, PCAs and PCEAs etc just like the day shift). Many nurses can’t work nights and I couldn’t work days because of family commitments. I wanted to appeal this ridiculous decision and voice how it was impacting greatly on many peoples’ lives. I was told if I did so I would lose my job!! I handed my notice in that day and within a week so had 5 other nurses. The ward is virtually run in agency staff who have no idea about the specific speciality on our ward. So management shot themselves in the foot big time because their decision cost them with a loss of expertise, a great team and also a huge financial bill for the agency staff.

Great vlog as always very informative and intriguing 100% agree with you workforce modernisation/ benchmarking may sound like good ideas in theory but may not always work in practice in a prison environment its really not an appropriate to be honest It's dangerous you lots of staff to ensure prison environment is as safe as it can be sounds like these new staffing level regulations made your job and the job of your work colleagues twice as difficult anyway loving the current direction of the channel its amazing your helping many people myself included keep up amazing work most of importantly take care of yourself best regards to your family

Love your chat and Stephen. Did you ever do any Detention Centre work ( short sharp shock)? I did 94 days in Hmp Earlestoke ...never went back , it was a shock indeed. Marching bed blocks , beasting, shouting, with a touch of brutality. Never again!

Useless or corrupt managers Really is no excuse for drugs in jail Its not hard gov must want drugs in jail and they or people within benefit from it...

I spent yrs and yrs in prisons 92-2011 and saw how prison changed over the yrs in the quality of officer & inmate.Lads wouldn't even talk to screws unless you needed something & you couldn't go around bullying other prisoners youd get battered or word in your ear off the hardest blokes in the wing. Facts.

Sounds very much like my job which is public sector also. Someone comes along with some stupid idea, doesn't consult the staff who actually do the job, then takes home a very nice sum of cash. Depressing!

I was a civil servant for 30 years and the incompetence of those in charge was criminal. They must have squandered billions on idiotic schemes and ideas. The one set of people theses clowns never ask is those that do the job.

Alot staaff fuked about alot inmates missed there visit or times cut short... and caused to many issues... i went above beyond help these prisoners cus staff refused... so i did any job to keep them calm and peace.... and shouting staff!!! For help... toughest job ive ever joined.... and to still be there after everything happened in my first 12 months... my.mental health is at its worst.... so o totally understand what u experience.... so i dont ask for help anymore theyve isolated me to.point ive lost all my confidence theyve humiliated me digaraded me.... i dont respect there morals.... if general alarm goes off ill jump in help cus its my job cus its my job but im on my own...!!!! I have more respect from prisoners then my own colleagues...

SAM , you might get this ,The night before you lie there at night in bed then plan tomorrow , take the dog out , repair the wippers on car swap the wheels over ,And varnish the front door sweep path ,Next day wake up sit there and you dont even get dressed your mind is like black so slow inside . nothing gets done .it happend today ,
