Have you ever heard of the DEA operation Fast and Furious? Ioan Grillo explains some of the most horrific acts of violence in the most dangerous parts of Mexico. Ioan has been conducting journalism in Mexico for almost two decades and has seen the worst of what mankind can do. He gives us a personal account on the Shawn Ryan Show. Often, we see photographs of cartel gunmen holding .50 cals, RPGs, AR15s, heavy machine guns, gold-plated pistols, and much more, but we also wonder how they are getting their hands on these?
Support the Shawn Ryan Show for $5 and get the chance to be featured on our show. You will have the opportunity to ask upcoming guests questions, and occasionally Shawn will select one of your questions to be asked during the show. Additionally, you will get behind the scenes footage from the Shawn Ryan Show. Sign up here: / vigilanceelite

The group that kickstarted this wave of hyper-violence were the original Los Zetas who were special forces that broke away from the CDG. This group revolutionised the cartel war and brought a level of brutality, military organisation and ruthlessness that Mexico and the world had never seen before. It took the Mexican government, US government and 4 cartels that joined forces to stop them.

Well the zetas are now a shadow of they're former selfs. All of the original sf guys are dead now. Herberto lascasno was the last of the sf founders but he was killed by Mexican marines. The guy that took over was z40 migael Trevino. He didn't have a military background. He just rose through the ranks by being ruthless. He started the group's downfall because of how unhinged he was. He didn't have that training and discipline that set the group apart.

Don't forget the Zetas. I think the original members are all dead or in prison, now. But, they were essentially the Mexican equivalent of American Special Forces before deciding to become Cartel muscle, and then a cartel themselves. Most of them had received a lot training from the U.S. Military before going rogue. You can imagine them as cadre to the people that came after them, schooling them in military weapons and tactics as they came on with them.

When you discuss the modern cartel violence and mentality- it’s important to remember you’re talking about individuals who at some point in their “career” voluntarily left the human race. Some left at a young age before their brains were fully developed, but the point is these are no longer humans. They are void of all the characteristics that we attribute to a human. Even the most brutal warriors in history at least had honor. There’s no honor in the modern cartels. Just bloodlust and money.

Video was sent to me about 18-20 years ago of cartel violence and yes it was definitely real. Two guys with hands tied behind their backs sitting on the ground with backs against a wall. Executioner fires up a chainsaw and saws off the head of the first guy with the blood splattering all over the second to die, face. The second guy never looked panicked and didn't look over at his pal as he was being decapitated. He had a look of quiet resignation on his face. I turned it off after that and wish I hadn't watched it as I can still clearly see in my mind the gruesome video this many years later.

Asylum and Mexico being America’s largest trade partner is why the designation won’t be allowed to go through. It’s a bad look for our biggest trade partner to be overrun by terrorist control and would have trade implications-In addition to making cases that are - as of now - very hard to win (in spite of the level of brutality) and make them much much much more winnable on account of legal distinctions. (If anyone is interested I’m happy to explain further as to what the legal differences are as someone who works in this space.)

He said they have no legal mechanism to use. It was his opinion that we, as citizens, need to understand that in some places, you can buy a rifle a day, everyday of the year, and nothing can be done to stop that person from driving across the border to drop them off, since no one checks cars on the way out.
