@@-_brwne_-340 probably because of the actions of sumoyoshi effected the story greatly, I'm pretty sure if yorrichi was at his weakest point when he's wife died he would have accepted a offer to become a demon if muzan met him in that situation. Which would lead to a chain of events, leading to the Kamado family not being harmed and mainly targeted by muzan, which means that if tanjiro wasn't the main character of the series, Muichiro would have been the second option

It's easier to make the protagonist the most loved character especially in a famous anime. Since every attention was given to them and the story kinda forces the viewer to see them as the most desirable character in the show. However it's harder to make the antagonist became more loved than the protagonist without diminishing the love to the protag.
