Most of Namibia’s vast natural resources are owned or controlled by foreigners

Namibia has the third highest levels of income inequality in the world. 6% of the population own 70% of the land and here, the wounds of German Colonisation run deep. Between 1904 -1908, the Germans established concentration camps where the indigenous Herero and Nama people were interned. Up to 80% of them died in what Germany later recognised as the first genocide of the 20th Century. While the descendants of these victims, like Karvita, live on illegal settlements in constant fear of eviction, the descendants of these colonists continue to own most of the land and have no problem justifying their inheritance.
Most of Namibia’s vast natural resources are owned or controlled by foreigners. The diamond industry is dominated by DeBeers and the ruling Swapo party, widely seen as corrupt, is propped up by its historic ally: China. The construction and uranium industries are controlled by the Chinese and documents leaked in 2021 revealed that North Korea was illegally subcontracted to build the country’s State House.
Most of the country is sparsely populated, enabling nature to flourish. It’s home to one to one of the greatest wildlife populations in the world, including the only free roaming black rhinos. But these animals are constantly threatened by Chinese mafia while global warming is increasing desertification, threatening indigenous communities.

I'm a white farmer (boer) in Namibia. We bought our farm after Namibian independence. Many of our neighbors are black farmers. They are very friendly people and we get along quite well. They are also very successful farmers. As much as I am sad about what Germany did in the past, I am glad to see that they are at least trying to make reparations. I hope that they can come to a resolution which will benefit all Namibians and empower more black people to be successful farmers. I hope Namibia will remain a peaceful country and that black and white farmers will learn to work together and support each other.

Instead of financial reparations, Germany should do a quid pro quo with Namibia with respect to land. The amount of agriculture land owned by German migrants in Namibia should be compensated by giving an equal amount of agriculture land in Germany to Namibians. This might mean overthrowing German farmers. But it will be closer to justice. If German migrants can end up taking a major amount of land in Namibia through force, then it is just that Germany compensates Namibians with an equal amount of land in Germany. As far as the German farmers are concerned, they can be employed in factories in Germany. This would take care of the labour shortages in Germany.

They need to give context also the land being owned in Namibia. The southern is semi arid desert. A farm needs to be very big to enable someone to raise any livestock. The Northern part and eastern part of Namibia is much more suitable for growing crops and keeping livestock. It is also the Northern part which is much more populated then the Western part is the Namib desert where you can have 50 000 hktrs but you will not be able to keep more than 100 cows. It takes between 3 and 4 years to raise a calf. If you only have a 100 cows and you sell calfs for N$8000 max it is N$800 000 for 4 years which is then N$200 000 per year. From this you need to buy medicine and food for the cows, you have to do maintenance on the farm. Cost of living has gone up so much but not the price the farmers get for the meat. Landowners is Namibia pay tax on land. Businesses pay tax. Employees pay tax. We pay tax on food, medicine, fuel, even on pension. The goverment has shares in all the mining activities. All resources coming out of Namibia, the goverment recieves money from. All farming activity, the Goverment recieves money from. Why did they need to built new buildings for goverment, accoring to reports that are now more than a trillion N$ worth? Why not use that money to build homes and develop farms for people to work on and provide for themselves? These videos never show the true picture. Go up north where most of Namibia is under control of the tribal chiefs, and the people there do not want to live in the dry south. These videos never tell the whole story

The possibilities have been snapped up by local European entities, China and other countries the door is shut on all that now.I attended one of the conferences here some years back and the official lamented the fact that resentment by the indigenous was a handicap anyway and said that the average American teen had more of the necessary computer skills than most Namibians. Sadly the same thing happens when you go back to the rez especially after a long time away or if you're an NDN who wasn't raised there. Folks recognize that they need help but resent it nonetheless. The statement about the diamond business "most of the people don't get any benefit".... well the Namibian govt which is governed by the former liberation movement owns a large stake in the company that mines the diamonds and of course they get close to 50% of the profit in taxes, so most of the benefit does accrue to the Namibian people! No attempt to ask the Namibian government what they are doing with all the money. This video really focusses on inciting racial division rather than giving viewers facts. Misleading at best .
