Dive into the exciting world of the Iowa Hawkeyes and their journey in women's college basketball! This season, the Hawkeyes have been turning heads and smashing expectations, stepping up as a force to be reckoned with. Despite losing some key players, they've used that as fuel to power through, bagging some big wins, like their epic showdown against LSU. That game? It was more than just a win - it stamped their ticket as serious title contenders. Now, everyone's tuning in to their games, drawing parallels with the legendary teams of women's college basketball history.
It's all about the rise of the Hawkeyes, where strategy meets stellar performances. Led by the phenomenal guard Caitlin Clark, Iowa's not just playing games; they're changing the game, giving the old guard of women's basketball a run for their money. Clark's been nothing short of spectacular, earning nods to the greats of the sport and proving that it's not just about individual brilliance but how the whole team comes together. They're not just winning games; they're setting the stage for a new era in women's college basketball.
So, what's the buzz all about? Iowa's journey is a testament to resilience, skill, and basketball IQ. They've crafted a style of play that's not just effective but downright entertaining. With each game, they're rewriting the narrative, creating a legacy that resonates beyond the season. From underdog to powerhouse, the Iowa Hawkeyes are proving that they're here to stay, reshaping the landscape of women's college basketball one game at a time.

That wasn't a clip of Sydney Affolter at 6:34, that was a clip of Monika Czinano, who isn't on the team anymore and graduated last year.

For the sport to grow balance has to happen. Having SC and UConn gobbling up all of the top high school players isn't a good thing. So I'm happy to see UConn lose. Shows girls they can win on any team, pick a school you love

The players on the 22 / 23 and 23 / 24 teams weren’t highly rated individually but they were a team. The 22 / 23 starters had played over 100 games together. 3 of them were back for 23 / 24.

Just had to sort out some of the comments that were made on this chat. I have been involved in women's basketball for over 40 years as a scout and writer. 1. Addie Deal (not Abbie Deal) is a fine player from Southern California. She is a wing and not the same kind of player as Clark who is essentially one of a kind as a combination of scorer AND facilitator in the women's game. Based on the past 50 years, the odds are another like Clark is not likely to come along in the next decade or three (let alone a year or three). However, as Clark was not rated #1 in her high school class (2020) coming into college, there is always a chance someone will rise up from below (so to speak). It is unfair to burden any high school player today with a "next Caitlin Clark" label. 2. The WNBA level of ball is MUCH higher than in college and very few players entering from college truly impact the WNBA each year. Neither this year's UCONN team (crippled by injuries but exceeding expectations) nor Iowa (one superstar and a collection of overachievers) would beat a fully healthy WNBA team. Many quality drafted college players are cut prior to each WNBA season. 3. Iowa is a well coached, long successful women's college team. However, the team never reached the current heights (2 back-to-back national finals) prior to Clark and it may be a while before it happens again. 4. As someone who follows the game from the high school through the pro level, I am happy to see the rise in interest in women's basketball. I hope most of you will stay interested in the sport and be willing to watch teams other than ones just with Caitlin Clark involved in playing. 5. I expect Clark to make a successful transition to the pros but she will probably need to make adjustments as a pro lead guard has to be thinking pass first and second and shooting as third option unless in open court setting. 6. Winning the title will be a tall order on Sunday for Iowa which has one high school All-American to eight (by my count) for South Carolina. However, stranger things have been known to happen.
