I'm an American musclecar guy, but have to admit there is something absoloutely magical about the Porsche 911. From the introduction of the model in the late 60's 'till they changed the body style in the 90's, I like 'em all, turbo and NA alike. For me, I'll take a '73 Carrera 2.7L hardtop in silver.

But can we take a moment to appreciate how engine technology has come full circle? We've gone from the 426 Hemi being iconic to the Valkyrie revving up to 11,000 RPMs, and now Konigsegg's 2-liter inline 3 TFG with 600 bhp! Also, who else agrees we should get an episode comparing the "advertised" horsepower of classic muscle cars to what they actually put out on a dyno with today's standards? To put that 2,200hp engine at the end into better context, I worked on a very big tow boat, it had two 4,500 HP diesels. So that car alone has a quarter of the power needed to push over 40 loaded barges down the mississippi river. Each barge being 200ft long by 35ft wide, that's over a quarter mile of steal out in front of you. And that car makes 1 full 1/4 of the HP needed to do something like that. Insane.

@DuxAT 8 ай бұрын
You do have to account the fact that Horsepower is a product of speed AND torque. Even though it has 1/4 of the HP, it has much, much less torque as the engine is faster and the car is geared for speed, not torque

@@DuxAT that's why at the end I made a point to say HP. The engines on the river were TQ monsters I'm sure, but nobody knows how much they put out because they only go off HP numbers for some reason. Now you need to do a video comparing 1960s horsepower numbers to modern SAE horsepower numbers. Also, Horsepower per CC would be a good video.

Yeah, it seems like nobody realizes that muscle car horsepower numbers were essentially faked. Removing the water pump and changing the manifolds to max out the power is a huge lie to the consumer.

@@user-lw4hz5hx5h ah, I thought they only made like 5. I didn't really think about that. Would love to see a video about the German power wars of the 80's into the early 2000's, when cars like the Merc 2.8 Evo 2 started a trend that culminated in Audi putting the twin turbo V10 from an R8 into an estate car (station wagon as you guys say in the US). You barely see them any more, but as a teenager I dreamed of owning one of those or a C63. Incredible sounds

I'd rather have a low-stress naturally-aspirated V8 over some little I4 that's boosted within an inch of its life in a heavy car. The least powerful 4.7 in a Grand Cherokee made 235hp and 295lb-ft. The least powerful gas engine available in a Grand Cherokee was the 4.0 I6 making 185hp and 220lb-ft in the ZJ.

My dad had a Blue 1967 GTO. He sold it when I was a baby to move for work. He still misses his car. He has many pictures of the car. The interior was 6/10 but everything else was 9/10. The car was maintained by my dad and oldest cousin when my cousin owned his shop. Most of the pictures are of my dad cleaning the thing. My mom had a 1972 Mach I before she totaled it just before the move. Dad has one picture of them doing a drag. Dad said mom's mustang was quicker off the line, but Dad's GTO would catch up and then scoot on by with the final gears. Dad said rolling drags weren't even fair. Even though the GTO was a beast, it came alive after 50MPH. Both of my parents miss their cars. At least they have albums and many stories to tell. My son especially likes hearing stories and looking at the old family race albums. His eyes just glisten with wonder... EDITED FOR SPELLING.

The average person, can drive a slice of the famous W12 or W16 engine. You just need a VW Golf type 3 with a VR6. Very little modification, and they get mean. And the sound is hard to beat..... stock, it sounds like a tuned race engine, with a quiet exhaust. It's all in the cylinder angle, and tight cylinder arrangement.

I had a Ford Taurus with half of an Aston Martin V12. It was actually a decent engine and sounded all right but the transmission was utter crap and held it back. Slowest 200hp car I've ever driven because of that transmission. Unfortunately, Ford never mated that engine with a manual and a manual pedal box for that generation Taurus effectively doesn't exist any more. V12 Mercedes-Benzes and BMWs aren't hard to find, though finding them in good shape and keeping them running is a little trickier. Some custom exhaust work and they can sound supercar-ish.
