This is the Guitar Guard Hardtailer and it's supposed to be the most stable and reliable tremolo blocker for floating bridges. It looks really sturdy so it caught my attention. Let's install and test it. Enjoy Guitar Tech Tips!

I got one as soon as I viewed this video. I have an Ibanez az with floating bridge. Super easy to install , now I can do drop D when I need to. The micro adjustment (getting it perfect) took me longer than the actual install.

Was looking for the tremorry or tremol-no, and always afraid to loose some of the flutter we have on a good floating trem (like Vega trem super V1) This one is defenetly the absolutely best solution I have seen ! Thanks you for sharing !

I haven't tried the Tremol-no but the Tremmory destroys the feel of the trem for me. And it hasn't always been effective often forcing a retune when I lock it. A better option for me has been the Guitar Nutbuster. It's kind of a floating locking system that goes behind a regular nut. It has made tuning a lot more stable for me than the Tremmory but it's not cheap. It does preserve the feel of the trem and guitar though.

Not really compatible with the five springs of the Tremolo, but since I use all five springs, I don't think that I have the same problems with my floating Trem that y'all are having. Looks pretty solid if you need it. 👍

Why there are so few options for the type of stabilyzers like Tremorry/AEX and Hipshot, which allow playing double stops/bends properly and avoiding trembling during hard attacks, and still have the possibility to move the tremolo up at the same time, not only down like this one?

Hi. It seams it is doing a great job but I wonder if there is enough space in there to add also a Tremelo stabilizer (like a Goldo back box)? Would be perfect if the screws were in front and back (not on the sides). Would occupy less space! Do you think the Hardtailer fit together with Goldo Back Box, in a cavity with 3 springs?

I've been looking for a long time for something like this to install in a EBMM JP12 so I can tune down to drop D and go back to a full floating with a nice flutter in between songs. Only a question: Does it fit between two Springs in a 3 springs setup? Cause I use to have a spring in the center and the other two in the sides, and i would rather prefer to install in in between the center and one of the sides instead of moving the center spring to one if the sides. Thx!

@@joeyskar what makes you say the tremmory is better than this? As far as I can tell the only advantage to the tremmory is that you maintain stabilization when pitching whammy up, whereas you have to deactivate the hardtailer to pitch up. But you lose flutters and whammy feel in exchange for the stabilization when pitching up, so its a questionable tradeoff. Please share your thoughts as I am torn between the two and this is just my armchair analysis. Cheers

That's seems like an ingenius little gadget. A bit more advanced than Clapton's little block of wood. lol but question how can they call it a hardtailer if you can still use the trem downward?
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Жыл бұрын
That's a really good question. 😆 Well, I guess if you remove the trem arm and put the Hardtailer in the "dive-only-mode" it's technically hard tailed. Haha! No way you can move the bridge around like that. And if you tune the strings down (or break one) it's still gonna be stable and in tune. 😅 Cheers bud //Kris

A reviews on Thomann did say that there is noise from this and other drawbacks. If this is true, then it defeats the purpose of this thing and it's much more affordable just to use a permanent, dove-only trem stopper for $20 or less... But you just have one mode. "Installation was easy as the tutorial videos, and the component really look and feel as good quality. Overall i liked and would recommend, but i just wanted to share some remarks, as i felt the videos and comments were a bit misleading to me at least (floyd rose guitar). - at least for me, this is not an easy switch that enables full floating or dive only bridge for example during a gig for one song, it just makes it easier to go from a decked to floating bridge guitar. The reason is the hardtailer needs to have some pressure against the bridge block when activated, otherwise there are vibration noises, in my setup ~1/4 to 1/2 step difference is required (activated vs not activated hardtailer), therefore as i chose to be decked in my guitar, if i deactivate the hardtailer, it will result in the guitar at least 1/4 step sharp when floating (and not in good tune) One can say, you just need to re-tune it them (in floating that can take a bit and also consider the impact of step difference on floyd rose bridge setup)… and it is right, but this is not mentioned by the marketing material and i had not understood this was the case (although pretty obvious after installation). Still, much better than not having the component… On the pro-side, it is stable, so i kept my microtuning on e string tight, and can therefore go to D tune only on with the e-string micro tuning of the floyd rose."

Why does everyone stubbornly persist in the misnomer tremelo bar/bridge? It's just wrong. Tremelo refers to a change in amplitude. The correct term for what's happening is vibrato, a change in pitch. What is the advantage in wilfully misusing established vocabulary?

I not really sure about that. May be if you block the trem to dive only mode you should be able to tight up the springs more in a way it's get harder to the block to lift up when you bend. That's the principle behind other stoppers like the Göldo Back Box. The difference is that the GBX has it's own spring so you can still move the arm in both directions. May be the GBX's spring makes a difference with that.... I have the GBX installed in a couple of guitars with Floyd Rose and they work perfect for bendings and specially with double stop bendings when it's usually more noticeable.

If you need the "Tremolo Stopper", so your should not buy a guitar that have Tremolo in the first place. It is this device confusing enough for you? Just like they put a mic in front of another speaker so you can get the sound out of other speaker. The whole thing it's nothing to do with musical, it's just marketing for the lazy consumer🙂

It's not that people don't want to use their tremolo, it's that they don't want to use it all of the time, or can't because certain applications require, say, a detuned string that will alter the tuning of all of the strings if the tremolo is floating. You shouldn't dismiss a product or style of playing that you don't fully understand. ;)

If you call me lazy, because I want to only bring my favorite guitar to the gig that allows for both retuning to Drop D AND playing a floating bridge instead of bringing a second guitar to do one of those jobs, than I'm proudly lazy. You can also call it efficient or genius if you want 😂
