Good job being in correct room at the right time. I knew the the mans photo in slide show instantly, then hearing Fremers voice perfect! Interesting presentation. Truly a work of art.

Amazing how much RnD has been done on the different parts of the turntable, it's well out of most peoples league but you can see where your money's going when you're talking about the materials & tolerances they're working with.

Trouble is, they fell short with the R&D with their tone arm design. Like many current turntable manufacturers they ignored the R&D done in the decades before. We had learned from experience with professional turntables that the "J" and "S" style of tubular tone arms was superior. We retrofitted many professional turntables with "S" and "J" style tone arms. Although a "J" style tubular tone arm, with removeable headshell, atleast dated back to the post-war Capehart flip-over record changers, tone arms like these could have been found on Empire turntables. What caught the attention of the professional turntable market was when Technics entered the market with their "S" type tone arms. Users of professional turntables started buying Technics turntable and the U.S. professional turntable manufacturers began losing market share and had to play catch-up to stay in the game.

All this research for a turntable! Nevertheless, this was an absorbing presentation.

Quite a high risk proposition, but it paid off... Super impressive

Thats a lot of interesting tech solution but its quite unknown how exactly do they translate to performance

It's tough to say on each piece how much it contributes in sound, but it was impressive on both metrics overall

I was thinking more like - New motor idea? Great but is it really better than current state of the art direct drives? - Tonearm design quite great seems to agree with Marc Gomez to have resonant frequency as high as possible and guess what SAT's top arm also uses CF (multi layer laminated instead of woven) and titanium to achieve this. But no numbers presented. Gomez shares openly that his tonearm has first and second resonance at 4030hz and 9000hz. What about this arm? - There is no vacuum hold down considered by many to be the best way to couple the record to the platter - To many top end audiophiles the feature with short connection to transformer will be irrelevant as they use DS optical cartridges - Nothing new with vibration isolation many people already use either active platform like Herzan or passive air blade like stacore, SAT uses Minus K passive hydraulic platform All in all you pay a fortune for a bit unproven (yet) solutions, while you could pay a little less fortune on SAT XD1 and get a more technically documented performance with even more tech (vacuum holddown)

@@barneyrubble9309 Thrilled for those that are able to splurge on such luxuries... If I have $350K in cash, I would prefer to spend $10K or less on a TT and invest in the $340K and watch it grow to a bit over a million in a couple of decades or so.. Else, the $350K spent on a TT will be worth less than half in same time frame.. That's the reality of high end audio...

Did they spend tax payer money for a toy for the rich? Is there other uses for this technology that isn't about perfect sound?

And yet, a $15,000 turntable can get you 90% of the $750,000 one. When the playback device is more advanced than the recording process, there is a slight question of does it really make a difference.🙄
@Tacet137
@Tacet137 Жыл бұрын
Actually you could argue this table is less advanced than the cutting lathes since it lacks vacuum hold down and the motor performance is still rather unknown, no published S/N, wow and flutter. The current benchmarks to beat is: Technics SP10R motor with its 0.015% wow and flutter, 92dB S/N SAT CF-1 Tonearm with its first and second natural resonance at 4030hz and 9000hz Tech Das AF0 platter with its moment of inertia at 16000kg/cm²
