Ian Wright will say just what he said, as the fear of losing starts to strangle him, knowing Arsenal will be the first loser. He sounds pathetic!

What about the penalty also awarded to to Arsenal against B.mouth. a huge scam. A striker falls and draggs his foot over the goal keeper and it's a penalty. That's theft. Did Ian see that?

What is the matter with these Referees these days. Have they all completely lost their bottle to make a decision?! Quite clearly and even Steve Wonder could have seen that it was a second penalty to City. What is the thought process now..."I wont make the decision, I will let VAR do it for me, then I will go over to the monitor and agree with them....let them be the ones that make the mistake, if it all goes pear-shaped". Why not just do away with Referees all together, stick a Chimp in there and let the other Chimps, that make up that VAR Team, make all the decisions from 50 miles away....they do anyway.

I agree! VAR has taken away a lot of joy from watching football. You can never celebrate anymore, cause every goal has to be reviewed up an down by VAR and it takes waay too long time. To use a software that can immediately draw a line for offsides fex, should take 1 sec, not 3 min. The thing with the linesmen not lifting the flag when it is offside and wait (which can even cause injuries) is also ridicilous. If there is a clear offside, wave the flag when it happens…seriously. Its so annoying. They should have two extra refs like in ice hockey who can stand behind each goal and focus on the area around the goal and the main ref can use them if he is uncertain of penalty situations, corner situations, goal situations etc. ThIs VAR thing where 3-4 people is in a bus and needs so long to come to a decision makes it less fun to watch. No spontanious celebrations anymore. Even the players have to look at the ref and linesmen every time before they can celebrate. Also, on corner situations there should be a lot more penalties to set an example. How it is now, a defender can just block and hold a player in their jersey and pull them to the ground without any interest of the ball whatsoever. They always let these situations pass and it happens a lot. Maybe if the refs started to give penalties for this sabotage of play, they would stop. And the keepers are way too protected. If they jump up and cant hold the ball, its always an automatic freekick for the keeper.

@@In_my_own_mind Oh boy, I could not agree with you more. So much wrong with the game in 2024, they have managed to suck the very life of it all. One thing I have noticed and another ugly trend that has crept into the game, this blocking off of Goalkeepers, which they are getting away with and it is becoming worse. Holding gloves, arms, shirt, of the Goalkeeper, standing in front of him and every time the Goalkeeper tries to move out of the way, the Player goes with him. I have even noticed Players standing on the foot of the Goalkeeper, putting him off. Then there is all the theatrics at penalties, where they argue with the Ref for an hour, doing their best to put the penalty taker off, by delaying as much as possible and why the Ref has to spend half an hour explaining to the Players what they can and cant do at a penalty every damn time, I have no idea. If they don't know the rules by now, they never will. I thought the directive was: "Any Player that surrounds the Ref to protest, will be booked". It works that way and works very well in the Bundesliga. Then there is the antics of the Goalkeeper and what Martinez did in that Villa Euro Cup Game, in my opinion, he should be ashamed of himself. Worse was the fact that he got way with it all. Lets face it, we could discuss all this until the cows come home, the truth is, the game is getting ruined and nothing much, if anything is being done about it and the more they mess with it all, the worse they are making it. The thing that puzzles me is, everyone that follows the game is complaining about it all, so why are the Officials dragging their heels on putting it right? It's baffling.
