I won't call any of this "evidence," but if you play through chapter 4 with Flint via the debug room, it becomes overly apparent that he was cut late in development. 1. You can sell the Fresh Lumber for a whopping 150 DP. This is far more than you get for selling every other piece of equipment you could possibly have in your possession at the start of the chapter. 2. Flint can only equip two pieces of headgear in the entire game: the Ordinary Hat and the Manly Bandana. My personal theory is that this was done to balance Flint relative to the rest of the party, as he has the highest HP, Offense, and Defense (well, Claus actually has the highest Defense stat, but he can't equip anything) out of the whole cast. Perhaps Flint was originally able to equip bandanas but the developers didn't want him to be overpowered, so they limited his headgear pool to just these two. 3. Speaking of the Manly Bandana, it's suspicious to me that Salsa and Duster can equip it even though they don't have access to it without the debug room. 4. Flint can equip the DCMC Shirt but not the DCMC Ring. As we know he can only equip the Ordinay Hat and Manly Bandana, it makes sense that he can't equip the DCMC Hat, but it's peculiar that he wouldn't be able to equip the ring, either. Was this another way to balance Flint in chapter 4? 5. In Sunshine Forest, there are two enemies that are incongruous with the rest of the more balanced foes: the Grated Yammonster and Big Spud Bugs. You see, the former has around 400 HP and a Defense stat of 43, so Lucas (who has 45 Offense at level 10) can barely scratch it and Boney is absolutely useless. Flint, on the other hand, does around 250 damage to it with Power Smash at level 15 if he has the Fresh Lumber equipped (I'd wager most players end chapter 1 around this level). To me, the Grated Yammonster always seemed like it was designed with Flint in mind, as it can one-shot Lucas and Boney with Freeze Beta and Flint is the only one can break through its defense. Then there are the Big Spud Bugs, who have almost 280 HP, Lifeup Beta, and Hypnosis. It's practically impossible to kill them with just Lucas and Boney unless you bring multiple Sprinting Bombs with you, but Flint can even the odds with Swing and subsequently finish them off with attack combos. Why would the developers design such difficult enemies? There are a plethora of useful presents scattered in the forest, so the motivation to explore the area is there. Furthermore, fighting these otherwise obscene enemies is a pre-emptive method to get Lucas and Boney up to speed as they give massive exp. relative to everything else (the Slitherhens, Really Flying Mice, etc). On the whole, the game is well balanced and well designed, so the answer to this question is quite simple: The developers designed them when Flint was in the party. It would be bad game design to outright punish players for simply exploring--especially when there is no blatant warning or even a subtle hint that engaging certain monsters will result in a game over. 6. The Pigtunia is another interesting enemy. As is the case with the Grated Yammonster, it has a prodigious Defense stat, so the only way to hurt it is with PK Love. Or, Flint can use Strengthen Up and then help dispose of it with his sheer power. They can also multiply, which gives Swing some use. 7. All of the other enemies in Murasaki Forest barring the Orangutan are way too overpowered for Lucas and Boney to overcome without PK Love and/or battle items. Now, one could argue this was intended in order to highlight Love's efficacy compared to physical attacks, but, again, why would the developers intend to screw over the player for simply exploring? Have Flint with you, however, and you can win with Strengthen Up + Power Smash/combos. 8. Almost all of the enemies in the Titiboo Attic attack in groups. Swing has a lot of utility here. 9. The only way to dispose of the Jealous Bass's minions in one turn is with PK Love and a Pencil Rocket, but that's something only a seasoned player would bother to figure out. However, should Flint be there, you can also kill them with PK Love, Swing (granted Flint is at a high enough level), and a Sprinting Bomb (you get a few of them if you explore) from Boney. 10. Flint takes minimal damage from the Jealous Bass's musical barrage after using Toughen Up, so he serves additional use as a healer for that fight. He can feed Lucas and Boney to keep them healthy enough to survive the first phase. 11. Flint can't equip the Friend's Yo-Yo. Sure, it's humorous to conceptualize a yo-yo-wielding cowboy, but why wouldn't he be able to equip it? Kumatora and Duster can, and Flint can wear the equally chilidish "Kid's Shirt." Giving Flint access to a +30 weapon that also grants +5 Speed might have been too obscene for the developers. Summary: Flint's equipment pool was meticulously revised to balance him and many of the enemies in chapter 4 were designed around a party of Lucas, Flint, and Boney.

Map tiles have no palette of their own, instead deriving them from the palettes used in the map. If we can somehow place these tiles in a map, we could potentially see them in their intended palettes.

The graphics at 7:38 are for a hidden scene in the Chimera Lab that you can only access with a "walk through walls" cheat code. In the mini-theater room, a Secrebot invites you to watch a movie, and that’s where the "4"..."3"..."2"..."1" shows on screen. After that, the movie stops due to a technical failure, and the Secrebot tells you the rest of today’s showings are canceled.
