3-Day/40 mile out and back backpacking adventure exploring the Weminuche Wilderness Area with my daughter. This was her 1st backpacking experience….and she did great! We hiked in from the Vallecito Creek Trailhead and then followed Johnson Creek up into the Vallecito Basin and up over Columbine Pass into Chicago Basin. This route had it all…creek crossings, water falls, wild flowers, alpine lakes, wildlife, huge views, forests…lots of elevation gain and loss! The climb beginning at the split for Johnson Creek up to Columbine Lake is pretty strenuous.
