The way Kyle's friends comforted him, rubbing his back, hugging and gently reassuring him, is EVERYTHING I hope my young son experiences in friends as a young adult. It's so needed, physical touch and emotional support are VITAL. And if men can only find it in their romantic partners, it helps noone. The Bondi Rescue lifeguards also demonstrate beautiful comoraderie and support when they have a serious Resus or a death. We gotta normalise it. Long live plutonic support!!

Wow, that was quite crazy how many swimmers were on the back of that jet ski. No wonder it flipped. So proud of them for double checking on Kyle, taking him to the tower, and getting an ambulance for him. I don't know how you keep up on the rescues.

*As an American, it's always still a little bit of a startle for a second, to see Christmas celebrated the way we celebrate **_our_** summer celebrations! Reverse hemispheres and all that. For us, in a large part of America, the end of calendar year is snowy, cold, icy and thus we are on the beaches whilst you are a bit cold.*

so true. I'm in New Jersey. seeing people having BBQ, Beach parties and Santa on a surf board on Christmas eve and Day lol. its like so odd to see that in December for me lol we get very cold here and snow or ice or both here and you don't want come to the beaches here around that time. its even colder. just walking on the boardwalk with ocean winds blowing. 😵‍💫 lol

As an American living in Finland, same here. Christmas is snow and cold weather. Summers aren’t long here either. We have shorter daylight, gets dark around 15:00. Always glad to have the sun and a bit of warmth. Nothing like the scorchers though. Used to spend my summers in Kansas as a kid and that was too hot. 🥵 Gotta deal with what you have and make the best of it I guess❤

I grew up learning to body(boogie)board with my dad and the first thing he taught me and my siblings was how to get out of a rip by swimming parallel to shore. Basically you end up coming out the back of the rip at an angle and then catch the next wave in. You'll come out on the beach a little ways down from where you went in. Not having board makes it so much more difficult and the rips at Bondi are ten times worse than what we get on the East Coast of the US. I'm guessing that has to do with how shallow our coastal depths are in comparison.

Yep. I was born and raised on the East Coast. We have 4 surrounding beaches and that was the first lesson our Dad taught all of us....if you're ever caught in a rip, always swim parallel to the shore. It can save a life.

I"m American. where i live, in the north east of the USA. seeing everyone here is enjoying the beaches on Christmas, having Beach parties or family fun around the beaches. it's like a dream to me. it get cold here and snowy. Our beaches here gets very cold. even you just walking on the beach and what we have here call boardwalks. having that icy cold ocean winds blowing at you. 😵‍💫 sometime I think you guys are lucky to have that holiday fall on your summer. lol

Many of these foreigners don't know anything about the ocean. Half of them probably don't even realize there are sandbanks that lead to drop-offs into deep water. Not excusing the behavior of being negligent about your own safety, but we can't expect them to be responsible if they're ignorant to ocean conditions.

@@GayDisaster16 Well there's often a lot of minor medical injuries happening on a very busy beach in mid summer. Esp if there's bluebottles. And some more potentially dangerous. The lifeguards seem to be having to diagnose and look after stuff they're not fully trained for. I think they do a good job, but it could take the stress off them a bit, at that very busy time. Picking out people getting into trouble in a rip is quite a skilled job in itself. And they're a lot better at that than the rest of us, who are just looking for the next set of waves.

Why on earth would you go into anything deeper than a sink if you can't swim! Toddlers can drown in 2 inches of bathwater. I don't swim well. I respect the sea and never go in above waist height and I don't go in at all if I can't see the bottom. Thankyou to lifeguards everywhere.

We have large events near the beach in South Australia and as a part of the security team we are trained in first aid are have a duty of care for our patrons and deal with the patrons in and around the event relieving the pressure off our life savers
