Thanks to the both of you for producing this piece and sharing your personal stories. My 89yo mother lives by herself, daddy passed last year at 96yo, on 180 acres in the 6br house she & daddy built in 1958. One or the other of my 2 sisters and 2 brothers visit daily and mow the 4 acre lawn. She drives herself to church, grocery and the weekly Friday appointment at the beautician :-). None of her destinations is more than 5-6 miles from home. The KY small town has completely surrounded the farm but she still leases the pastures for grazing cattle (agistment). I'm 150 miles distant and miss being there every day. My siblings and I are truly blessed for she is the best most loving MOTHER on earth.

My mother was a truly unique and amazing woman. She passed along her love of music, art, literature and food. She was my best friend and confidant and I miss her SO much. She and I used to cook meals together and were always sharing recipes by mail and email. One of my fondest memories is when I had an essay/report due (Dinosaurs - what else would a 8 yr. old write about? lol) and asked my mom that morning if she would draw a picture of a T-rex on one of the pages. She gave me a look, but proceeded to do just that and in about 15 - 20 minutes she had drawn what looked like a photo copy of that T-rex onto the page. I have some other pieces of her art work and cherish it all dearly. RIP Sandra Jean (aka: Sande - her spelling). I know you never wanted to be a mother, but you were the best!

I had a tear in my eyes at that ending! I still have my Mom, she will be 85 and had stage 4 cancer, but she is clear and sharp witted, and I am grateful for every day I have with her, even though she lives fairly far away. I lost my Wonderful Wife, Mother of my 2 Sons 4 years ago tomorrow. I had been so depressed today as it is the 13th anniversary of my Daddy’s death, that I needed this!

You guys actually made me freaking cry!! I celebrated Mother's Day yesterday with my mom. We had a lot of fun with food and shopping. This morning, however, I got a bit angry at her because she delivered a really expensive gift of mine to the wrong individual. Later I spent the afternoon with my dear friend who lost her mother back in September and I didn't want her spending this first Mother's Day alone. Spending time with her left that impression on me that one day, I too, may have to spend first Mother's Day alone.... Then this video sealed the deal! I have to call my mommy and let her know mistakes will happen and that I am glad I wasn't her mistake! Thanks for the tears and a change of heart!

The secular Mothers Day described could also be confused with Mothering Sunday, originating from Britain, which predates the US incarnation and has a defined Christian association (initially honouring the "mother church"). We mark this occasion around late-March, rather than in May.
