I wish I had a setup like yours. I got an X58 motherboard for free because the socket was "ruined". I tried my best with the naked eye. Two pins ended up shorting, but it was just a vcore pin that melted away. I removed that pin. Unfortunately, it looks like a DDR2 RAS pin perhaps got shorted away as well. It is still in the socket and aligned well but looks darker than the others. The system posts, boots into windows, passes stress testing, but the DDR2 channel is dead. At least I still have two channels. Because of that shorted vcore pin, my W3520 test CPU (paid $9) has a contact pad melted right off. There was no damage on the CPU contact pad for the DDR2 channel though. This is the first time I seriously tried fixing a motherboard with bent pins. Had nothing to lose and it still "works" - I just don't have a ton of confidence in it. I feel like I could have avoided this with a proper setup.

Got it back from them yesterday. There were literally five pin missings from the inside edge in addition to at least six bent. I packaged it carefully and after having built PCs since 2003 I know well and good that I did not do that (far too careful). I hate to think it, but I have a feeling it was done purposely to void the last few months of the three year warranty. Going to make me very wary about buying an ASUS product again. I've heard horror stories about their RMA service many times, but had never had a reason to use it until now.

Gigabyte just had me send them pics of my socket with my iphone 5s.. obviously the pics cant show in good clarity the pins being bent but you can tell theres different color shading that theyre bent.. they then replied in a new email that my board that is only a year old is out of warranty. So Gigabyte's RMA support is also garbage when their technical support told me bent pins are covered under warranty but not broken pins.. and theres no way in hell they can see if those pins are broken just by my pics alone.. They didnt even wait for me to send them the board to look at it and examine my board to see that the pins were bent or broken before telling me my board is out of warranty which it isnt. I looked at the pins with a magnifying glass and can see every one of them.. not broken.

So I've accidentally ripped off a pin from the socket and replaced it with another one from another socket from a motherboard I'm not using and I'm wondering if there's any risk coming with it.. The pin I broke I believe had something to do with the turbo frequencies as it wouldn't let me go past the stock speed (in turbo I mean) but it would let me decrease the stock speed. Everytime I would've tried to OC my cpu to a higher freq, it would restart and then restart once more then telling me that the overclock failed. So I added a new pin (just sticked it in there and mounted the cpu) and now the turbo is working again (the pin makes contact with the original pin and the spot on the CPU), but I wonder if it's going to last me or not..

I don't get it. It is 2019. We can put a man on the moon, we have created superfast Internet with fibre technology, we have cars on batteries, trains running at 500 km/h, advanced laser technology in our hospitals, but we can't manufacture a CPU and a CPU socket without extremely fragile and damageable pins ??? I simply don't get it! The engineers at Intel *and* AMD should be ashamed of themselves.

@Kwanele urubos Hmm... I guess you have a point there. But one would think that _some_ manufacturer (AMD or Intel) should go to the bottom of this and once and for all fix the problem. These fragile pins and sockets in 2019 are a joke.

I was getting this error after i change the cooler of my processor for a new one. The following channel memory did not pass CPU memory test. Please remove the memory then plug again. Channel A So after hours of searching i found this video and decide to see if this was my case and sure it was. one ping was chilling to the other way. Now its all working.
