If I can’t let you go… will darkness divide?
For the fiction of love is the truth of our lies
We were playing for keeps, but we both knew the cost
Now the only way out’s in your heart shaped box.
But I hate that it seemed you were never enough
We were broken and bleeding but never gave up
And I hate that I made you the enemy
And I hate that your heart was the casualty
Now I hate that I need you
As we rest here alone like notes on a page
The finest to compose could not play our pain
With a candle through time I can still see your ghost
But I can’t close my eyes, for it is there where you haunt me most
I hate that it seemed you were never enough
We were broken and bleeding but never gave up
And I hope that I sing through your memory
As we echo through time in the melody
Now I hate that I need you
And I hear you now when you said “it hurts, but it had to fall apart to work”
As I see you now in what’s left of me
Is it too late to plead insanity?
Cause I hate that It seemed you were never enough
You were broken and bleeding in the name of love
And I hope that we meet in another life
I don’t hate that I need you

I lost my dad when I was very young, I was only 6 at his funeral. Growing up without a father is hard to tell if it was for my benefits or not. As a 6 year old autistic child, I didn't understand what death was and seeing everyone cry actually confused me, as I was still indifferent to my dad's death. Fast forward another year, I understood death, and I mourn his death every day. 8 years, he's been dead for, and will make it 10 years in October next year. But I can definitely relate to this comment, as my dad wasn't on best of terms with me.

I know it's not what this song is about, but I lost my Dad in January and sometimes I have the feeling that I often made him feel that he would not be "enough" as a dad for me. We never had a really bad relationship, but I feel I was not there for him. Now that he is gone I want to tell him so many things and how much I loved him and that he was a good dad and that I miss him so much. And when Chris screams "I hope that we meet in another life" I just can't hold back my tears, because I really hope that in another life I can be a better daughter or friend or whatever to my dad.

I feel you. My father died in 2017 due to drug addiction and I used to not visit him a lot since he had his problems and I mainly lived with my mom. Know you're not alone, grief is awful but it shows how much the ones we lose meant to us. Much love and healing thoughts to you. Also, this song doesn't have to mean only romantic relationships, it can be relating to any loved one we lost through any means. ❤

can't let you go will darkness divide? For the fiction of love is the truth of our lies We were playing for keeps, but we both knew the cost Now the only way out's in your heart-shaped box But I hate that it seemed you were never enough We were broken and bleeding but never gave up And I hate that I made you the enemy And I hate that your heart was the casualty Now I hate that I need you As we rest here alone like notes on a page The finest to compose could not play our pain With a candle through time I can still see your ghost But I can't close my eyes, for it For it is there where you haunt me most Where you haunt me most I hate that it seemed you were never enough We were broken and bleeding but never gave up And I hope that I sing through your memory As we echo through time in the melody Now I hate that I need you And I hear you now when you said "It hurt But it had to fall, fall apart to work" As I see you now in what's left of me Is it too late to plead insanity? 'Cause I hate that it seemed you were never enough You were broken and bleeding in the name of love And I hope that we meet in another life I hope that we meet in another life I don't hate that I need you I don't hate that I need you I don't hate that I need you

Why are people arguing about this song not being metal? Who cares it's amazing!
@mr.j1629
@mr.j1629 4 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. But weather its metal, rock, hip hop, country etc. Theres always gonna be people who argue that it isn't that genre. Like today's country music sounds more like pop music to me. When I think country music I think of the old stuff like some old Dolly, Johnny Cash, and Willie. There are people out there who would think that's not true. But I can agree that some of today's country has a few good songs by a few artists. It's also good yo open yourself up to new music. Just because you like Motionless in White and other heavier bands doesn't mean you can't like other genres. Even if it's a few songs.

Before the pandemic started, one day in school It was the beginning of a class and I was telling my friend he should listen to this kind of music more. A substitute teacher I had for the first few minutes of class overheard me and saw that I was taking about this band. He played this song and I loved hearing it to start my class. The rest of my class had to hear it and probably dreaded it cause they like rap and pop and don’t like this. I didn’t care. Best first 3 minutes of a class ever. The first song I ever heard from Motionless was Eternally Yours, and I absolutely love love songs that are rock genre, and I often saw comparison of these two songs but I could never bring myself to listen to this song, I just knew it wouldn't compare to EY and my chance to love it properly would be a let down from the expectation being to high. After ACCIDENTALLY HEARING this song on a random playlist recently I was so in love, I looked up the title and low and behold it was the coveted Another Life. Both of these songs are so beautiful. I don't think I prefer one over the other, as this song has a tight grip on me right now, but EY also had its season where I would not stop playing it. They can both be my favorite love songs, but the real gem is how MIW has been able to craft them both, and Chris' voice has such a sound that really sets them apart from other rock band sounds. Just all around a 10/10 craft. Thank you for letting it exist and making beautiful music videos to match.

This is not about death. It's about diving into a relationship when you aren't really ready to move on from the last one...but also knowing you WANT to move on even when you can't.

I actually think anybody can interpret it with their own thoughts, for example: this could be dedicated to my cousin and my dad who both passed away almost one year ago, can't I express my feelings with this? Yes! Anyone thinks it has another meaning? It's okay, it's up to your interpretation.

"With a candle through time I could still see your ghost But I can't close my eyes, for it is there where you haunt me most" the band did such a good job of making it seem like the man in the video was haunted by the memories of the person he loved most. A ghost in his memories, so haunted was he that he couldn't continue on. This song made me cry and now with this video, even more tears. It was beautiful. How perfectly they captured the pain of losing someone you love, whatever be the circumstance.
