@@callme_jess So i came up with a theory. I believe that young noah and the girl actually never met. They are both trying to live the perfect love story using simulators and maybe old memories of them with other people (that's why noah is not portraing himself in the flashback). I got the feeling of everything is fake because when things went south really quick, both old and young noah start to panic and move the finger to press the botton and move to another simulation. Morover, we have a lot of different endings (she dies in different ways like car hitting of shotgun in the throat and probably also he died chocked by her of shooted) and everything is from HER point of view like he is just passively watching what's happening. This makes sense with the lyrics. He looked for her his entire life in a 'artificial world'- he didnt recognize himself looking in the reflection of the computer screen- and he WAITED FOR YEARS. And she was there, in the other room while they were PRETENDING instead of living. Noah is really good in showing the realization f how he waisted his life looking for someone in a virtual way (we can connect the meaning with all the references in other songs like artificial suicide) and she was just there. what a work of genius from both noan and the direction.

I lost my young husband 3mo after getting married. The memory flashback scenes is the perfect representation of how I live as a widow now. The only thing I have left of him, of us. When I look at places he sat, or stood, I visualize him right there just like I did when he was alive. Almost like I can reach out and touch him but I can’t. This song and video just hits me so hard. ♥️😭

Strangely soothing for a song about surviving abuse. They really did a good job with blurring the lines of the illusion he held with the good memories and skipping the bad parts. Having both characters so horribly aged by the damage they caused each other really rings true to how heavy a toxic relationship makes you feel.

I think your interpretation of this video is interesting. My opinion. . . She was injured during the home invasion, leaving her in a coma. This lab connects them 2 from shared memories. . If you notice red letters on the screen saying error? That was her body failing in real life during the simulation. . . Just what I get from it. They don't skip over any bad memories, and I don't see where you can say this is about surviving a DA relationship. . . I'm a victim to that myself so. .

I'm 42 as well and I see it differently. In my view rock was way more popular around the turn of the century than it is now, and there were far more bands to listen to Granted it seems to be making a bit of a comeback now but it's not what it was in the nu-metal days and on through the screamo/metalcore stages

@🌟Trista🌟 it was so beneficial for me, you do dig deep into traumatic memories and basically you relive it in your or out loud meanwhile you're using rapid eye movement to help your brain process new information on top of that memory. For example, my therapist had me tie a happy memory to my bad one, mainly tie the feelings of my happy memory. Because my happy memory helped ease the pain from my bad memory. The perspective is that instead of being first person in your traumatic memory, it's almost turning into a bystander that has no feeling attached to the memory but it's still there. The memory starts to become fuzzy or almost like static the more you process it. I used to have constant nightmares about my abuser over and over again to where I eventually would only sleep for 3 hours at night due to fear of having nightmares. But ever since I've had this therapy I've had maybe one in the span of 2 months, I'm still on my mental health journey with EMDR. But I'm so much more happy that I was able to do it. Just prepared because it can trigger panic attacks or nightmares since your having to bring up baby memories to help reconfigure.

"Another day just hide behind the smile on your face, and not a day goes by where don't think I feel the same" hits so deep on so many levels, I struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, suicidal ideation and attempted suicide and was addicted to alcohol for 7 years that was my only friend, because I KNEW, nobody would understand so I suffered in silence, until I was hospitalized for attempting suicide, and went to rehab for my alcohol, while was there I found you guys, and my mental health has gotten so much better and Been sober for 6 months now, I can't thank yall enough for what you do that im able to relate to, you literally saved me, and now I'm still able to be with my wife and kids 🙌 and they still have a father and my wife still has a husband, thank you for everything, yall help me get through things at my lowest when I loose hope. need you to come and perform in D.C.!

Im might be a teenager but I have my mental problems and it makes me go insane sometimes and as u I suffer in silence, and its so hard to heal myself without help and hope, but music has always been on my side, music heals, and we all should thank these artists, mainly those who really wanna help us with their songs, congrats for u for the success, you are not suffering alone, life is a road with no end except death and sometimes this road has too many holes and sometimes we lost control on driving, thats okay, we can still drive this endless road, even when we cant drive

Idk if you know what a single means but the song was totally released as a single. It got a music video for starters, and that video was released separately from the record the song is on. Plus, it was submitted to radios etc separately from the record.

I know! The fact that it was a tongue in cheek thing..they wrote a song that mocked, well mocked might be a strong word, but nonetheless mocked radio songs that turned into a radio song! I’m trying to paraphrase the interview where Noah spoke on it. Either way, it’s good…it captured the emotions & hearts of millions!

Everyone has that someone who just pops in their head when this song plays. Sometimes it makes me smile, sometimes it makes me cry. I’ve missed music like we had back in the 90’s and 00’s that actually made you FEEL. That’s the music I love. This is exactly what I wanted to happening, like erasing a memory of someone that was part of you for such long time, instead I had to deal with years of pain sleepless nights ,that was way less painful to get stabbed and shot straight in the heart multiple times at the same point. This song hits different, I dated a girl in highschool but we split up due to her moving to another province, 15 years later we met up at a concert randomly, sparks flew and we started dating again. 1 year later had a baby and were living together. We were together for 6 years and recently broke up, this song is the one song I'd play for her cause even though we're not together, those feelings will always be there and I hope we can gain some closure but til then I'll just pretend...

Nearly a week ago, I nearly lost my life. This music video released a day after I was offered to stay at a hospital, but I refused from realizing what I had done. I didn't even know that this released until now, and the feeling the video showed had me in tears. This album had me appreciate being a long fan since Finding God Before God Finds Me and this song, Like A Villain, and The Death of Piece of Mind are my favorites of this album. Thank you for actually helping me by this struggle and I'll keep going. If I didn't make it, I wouldn't know that a music video for one of the best singles released around that time. Can't wait for you guys to be on tour with BTHM!!

This video is so moving. It brought tears to my eyes. The journey of how hard and draining it can be to escape the torture and feeling of death in living in old memories. A very good personification. I love this video! 🤍
