My 2022 Moto Guzzi V7 Special gets a set of Moto Guzzi accessory chrome engine guards. I demonstrate how I installed the engine guards from start to finish.

This bike is stunning, and the mods you have done are very much in keeping and complimentary to the stock style of the bike. 👍🏻

Thanks David! It seems like each bike has its own soul and it tell us how it wants to be accessorized. The V7 is one of those laid-back machines that's comfortable with town riding or out on the road for short trips.

I've ordered up a set of these direct from Italy as there's no dealer where I live. Thanks for posting as this gives me an idea of what they should look like when fitted. 👍👍.

Very much appreciate you posting this Steve!! Picked up a new V7 Special yesterday (traded in my 2016 Indian RoadMaster so suffering from a bit of culture shock at the moment lol). This was my first accessory install and your video was extremely helpful. Love the bike so far but I think it will take a while to get fully in tune with the smaller controls etc. This bike sure does move though. Cheers Kevin

I was riding Harley's before buying the V7 but I had naked bikes so not nearly as much of a change as what you made! I'm 66 and I like how much more manageable the V7 Special is. Easier to move around and more nimble in street traffic. I like the power as well, it seems like the perfect amount of power. Peppy but not so powerful that it's more than I can handle. I plan on riding my V7 well into my 70's and I find the bike gives me a lot of confidence. Plus it's cool and no one else has one. :) I'm glad the video was useful! Good luck with your V7 Special, I hope you enjoy it.

I have the engine guards on order now so it was so good to see you working on your motorcycle. It's so nice to see your no fuss plain speaking videos. I hope your shoulder improves soon. Best regards. P.S. I fitted a centre stand and these are 45% more than the engine guard but it does make it easier to clean and work on the bike.
@SPSteve
@SPSteve Жыл бұрын
thanks for the nice comment! A center stand sounds like a great idea. A center stand would make oil changes and valve adjustment much easier. Having the back tire off the ground would make it easy to bump the engine over using the rear tire to bring each cylinder up to TDC. I wanted the engine guards because sooner or later it seems my bikes find themselves over on their side.

Great video, thanks for posting! I have a deposit down on a '24 V7 Corsa, already have the black engine guards sitting on a shelf. I would've put the 6 bolts for the guards a little looser than you had them (with blue loctite), to make sure they fit flush and level with each other at the top where they bolt together. Once the two halves are tight, then I'd start working my day from the top and tighten everything up. Doesn't look hard at all, as long as you have the right tools and some patience. Nice job!

I have the same bracket as yours and the instructions I have said to remove the two screws that you removed and then to mount the bracket with the supplied screws, just the way you did it! One difference that I did notice in my instructions was the wires for the horn went through the bottom square hole of the bracket where your horn wires went through the top square hole. Another difference in my instructions is the connectors for the horn are on the right hand side at 03:00 O'clock when you're facing the front of the bike while your horn connectors are at 12:00 O'Clock. My kit also came with a cable tie to be wrapped around the metal separating the two square holes then for the horn wire to go through the cable tie and then for the cable tie to be pulled tight to keep the horn wire up off of the bottom of the bottom square hole, so yeah hanging from the top of the bottom square hole when the cable tie is in place and pulled tight. Why my instructions are showing it to be done this way I'm not exactly sure, maybe it's a Transport Canada thing, l don't know. "Good job" !
@SPSteve

Thanks! I loosened and reclocked the horn so the electrical tabs were at 12:00, that way I could feed the wires through the opening. My kit came with a cable tie but I didn't end up needing it. These bars look great on our bikes!

I considered the black ones thinking they would blend in with the frame. It seems most of my bikes have ended up on their side at some point and with the cylinder heads most likely making contact with the ground the engine guards seemed a good idea.

Brave ;-) I gave my motorbike garage this to do as I wasn't sure about taking the frame bolts out each side without having the engine supported and I don't have a mini lift for that. Didn't seem a problem though for you, so well done on that. Having spent ages with a kawasaki getting aero protectors in and barely getting the alignment sorted I didn't fancy it. No torque settings on the bolts?
@SPSteve
@SPSteve Жыл бұрын
I think the torque value was 35 lb/ft, I just used mechanical judgement. I've been working on my own cars/hotrods and motorcycles as a hobby for 47 years. I installed the engine guards one side at a time so there were no issues with the frame. I just left the bike on the kick stand for the installation.

How much were the engine guards? I'm 60yrs, old, and I've had motocross bikes growing up, and two road bikes, 450 Honda, and a 750four, but it's been 20 yrs. I think I'm going to get a Moto , I love the bike, keep posting, I love watching, everyone around here, has a Harley, or something the same, I want something different, and a. Last bike for me, to take it easy and explore AZ, UT ect, I hope I can find a blue, v7 special, when I'm ready to buy, Dec, 22.

The engine guards were $209. I'm 65 and I find the Moto Guzzi V7 easy to ride. It's nice having something different and I really like the feel of the bike. It's a nice mix of old school and modern with ABS, traction control, fuel injection and a good handling chassis, but is still an air cooled V-twin with a gear box that clunks like a Harley. It's really a charming bike with a lot of character. If you're in northern AZ there's Powersports in Prescott that sells Moto Guzzi and a dealer in Las Vegas. Down in the Phoenix area there's Manic Moto in Queen Creek that always has a nice selection of bikes to choose from.

Some blue loctite wouldn't hurt but the frame bolts use a locking nut. The nut will thread on a short way, after that the bolt has to be forced through the nut. So they're resistant to loosening.

Good looking bars on the engine guard - understated and functional. I think I like the chrome vs black ( though I haven't seen them in black).

@@wjoelstarling Yes, I think it depends on the bike. Black would probably look better on a Stone but the Special has quite a bit of chrome so the chrome bars seemed a better choice.
