The Moto Razr+ is undoubtedly exciting, but with a new paradigm comes a whole new set of potential challenges. While the Moto Razr+ might have a new large screen on the cover, that also means there were changes required across the rest of the phone to make it happen. And for many of us, there might be a change needed in our daily usage in order to keep the Moto Razr+ fun -- and safe. So, here are my top 5 concerns with the Moto Razr+!

@@JohnSmith-ef8nr this is my concern. I want the 40, but it's snapdragon 8 gen1, when a flip 5 will likely come out in the fall on gen2. rumors are that it's not much of a change, but there could be enough to make it compelling.

@MrStu The Flip 5 looks like it will be less likely to break if dropped, and will be easier to put a screen protector on the outside screen because its flat. The Razr is a cool looking phone but the Flip 5 is so close to release, I think it's better to wait to compare the two before buying. I expect samsung will have good trade in deals at launch for the Flip 5.

Ive had this for phone for a week now. Its 100% a generational leap for flip phones. Outer screen is like its own device with its own UI, app drawer and app history. It integrates seamlessly and works smoothly when switching between main screen. Phone uses close to 6gb ram when idling. Flip 5 launches in a couple months, so 3rd party apps will update this summer to resize better on the outer screens. Andriod could do with allowing apps know where cutouts are. Design wise, its a pretty slim phone and pockets really well. They couldve made it slightly thicker and given it a larger battery, but then it wouldve been thick when folded. This new slim design work well. Criticism: super high refreshrate screens were not necessary. They should've put the money towards newer Snapdragon chip for bettery efficiency. But i think the design and displays are a 2 yr programme, with a chip and camera update for next yr's model. Software wise, motorola need to allow widgets to run on the outer display. It'd make a massive difference. There are some minor UI bugs that need ironing out. Ive had a few flip phones including razr 2022 and flip 4 and 3. All in all i live this phone. Its polished enough to recommend

I've had the phone for three days now and love it so far. My only gripe is how slippery the phone is in my hand. I have the black version from ATT. At the end, its simply a personal choice to buy any mobile phone. Any phone is not breakproof, but some are proned to more sensitive like the Moto Razr Plus, and whoever buys such phones (like me, since I already ordered one), is accepting the risks, so, no need to worry about such issues.

*Vivo* *X* *Flip* After looking at the photos closely and watching Ben Sin's KZfaq review for it, I now believe the Vivo X Flip in silk gold and with the transparent case that it came with is the best-looking foldable clamshell since the Razr 2019 and 5G. It shimmers beautifully. Vivo X Flip looks better than Z Flip 5 and Razr 40 series. The best color for the Razr 40 Ultra for me is the plain black one followed by the glacier blue. I think the magenta with the vegan leather will get dirty over time. I own Air Jordan 13s Bred. The red gets dirty easily. The best color for the cheaper Razr 40 is the olive green. It looks better in videos than in photos. If you want the vegan leather, the Razr 40 will have it. The reason why I don't want it is I can't live without a flagship SoC in it. Even though it's a year old, the 8+ Gen 1 will still age much better than 7 Gen 1. The only thing X Flip is sorely lacking is no wireless charging. But the 4400 mAh battery in it is best in class. X Flip scored 19h for web and 23h for video playback from GSMArena's battery tests. The Razr+ scored 6-8 hrs less. X Flip is on par to the S23 Ultra and nobody is really talking about this phone since it will never be available outside China. I would import it and use it on Metro since AT&T has a whiteliist for phones and Vivo isn't part of it. S-Class Fordable Flip Design - Razr 2019 (technically released in 2020) Razr 5G (the one I own) X Flip (now added, silk gold is fire with clear case)

I saw a comparison between the Vivo xflip and the oppo find n2 flip the oppo had a far superior build quality the crease in the middle of the main display is hardly seen from most angles while the x2 flips crease gets bigger after one month of flipping open and closing, better cameras, bigger secondary display with far better functionality while it only falls slightly short to the razrs secondary display plus the battery life endurance is far superior than the x2 flip.

@@jvtechtea a big difference though is we have move than a decade of mass consumer experience with glass screen electronics in the wild, but only 3 years of niche community experience with the more plasticity (even if it is thin glass coated) screens. So the flip protection of these newer screens is welcomed and I would say it is more of an issue if the outer screen was the same tech, but you just treat the outer screen identically the way you have treated any phone screen since 2007, what ever personal taste one has for protection.

It still baffles me why reviewers talk as if wetness and breakability is an issue that all phones need to have. Personally I have only ever dropped one phone ever in any water and that was a Nokia phone waaaaay back in the day. And as far as dropping a phone also only once and that was because I did something I never said I would do and that is text while walking and the one time I did it and dropped my Blackberry Passport SE also back in the day and only had a light scratch. Though I can see once one gets to a certain price point of the thinking, but with any and all new emerging tech there may be minor issues one knows going in. I really thought there would be legit top 5 concerns. In all honesty I see so many iPhone users walking around with cracked screens than any phone. Still not sure what people are doing but I would not think IP ratings and Breakage are super concerns. They are good to know, but most modern day phones have a fair amount of ruggedness and most people also have a casing at some point. And people being clumsy for dropping on hard surfaces or in water, might not be something that I would say is a Top 5 concern as that is not a problem of the phone. Even the cheapest of phone can survive a small drop. I have the RAZR 2020 5G and am looking forward to this new one coming this summer esp to T-mobile my carrier

The concerns sound like there isn't a lot of research. 1. The water resistance doesn't actually mean too much. I've had a $20 phone from a Chinese auction and I've accidentally dropped that on water by accident twice and it still works perfectly. It was a cheap ZTE phone from cricket. Jerry rigged everything made a dust test on the z flip 1-4 and all of them seemed to work completely fine without the rating. The purpose of the rating is literally just a certification. But there isn't any actual guarantee. Apple won't give you a refund if your phone fell on a toilet bowl and stopped working. It's not part of their warranty. It's actually just an illusion of confidence. Even if a flagship phone with ip68 is more durable than a folding phone in terms of water and dust, it wouldn't matter because it would never happen unless you do it on purpose. And even ip68 phones get permanent damages like speakers and USB C port and have no warranty on that. Their warranty is very easy to misunderstand on purpose. 2. Someone already made a durability test on Z flip 4 and Z fold 4 from the drop test. And it was shown they are even more durable than a lot of slab phones. The Z fold 4 has 3 screens and is a slab phone and survives multiple drops and also has gorilla glass victus like the razr. 3. The battery. Just because the battery is smaller doesn't mean it's going to run out of battery quicker. iPhone has proven this multiple times that it is all about efficiency. S23Ultra for example now uses more efficient screen and better thermal build that's why it outlast the S22Ultra by a mile even if it's the same capacity and appearance. But yeah the razr plus is actually trash if you researched. GSM Arena had it 83H vs Z flip 4's more than 90H of battery life even if the razr plus had bigger capacity.

Concern is the outer screen is exposed, what about the non foldable phones ? Lol

Obviously they are exposed generally, but my point was that flip phones in general are meant to protect the inner display. Razr+ still does, but now there's another screen to worry about

@@jvtechtea Flip phones in general are meant to be convenient, highly pocketable devices. It has been a long time since I have seen a flip phone without some sort of outer screen so I am not sure what the big deal is. Like the original poster said, all non-foldable phones would have this "issue." The problem as I see it is whether the user takes proper care of the phone, like one should with any other piece of expensive technology. That is in no way the fault of the phone nor should it be listed as a concern of the hardware. I get the impression that you don't like the Razr+ for some reason and just want to find anything you can to denigrate an otherwise excellent flip phone.

My favorite tea 🍵 🇧🇷. Expecting some interesting cases for this device, with that front. About change, yes. I recently change from my 3° Samsung in a row to a Motorola Edge 30 Ultra (got an amazing deal). So refreshing to use stock Android, after about 7 years of OneUI. Great to change once in a wild. Expectating to use it until Android 15. PS: I hold the 30 Fusion, and that leather back is so good to hold. That back should be on the 30 Ultra too 😢

The front screen is Gorilla Glass Victus, it is extremly hard to scratch that screen. In regards to the batterie life, I don't think you got the idea of the front screen. A normal user will use 50% the front screen, that safes a lot of batterie, as a result the batterie last easy a full day. I don't care about IP rating, I don't need my phone when having a bath or going for a swim. In regards to the Camera, I like it, I don't like the overly saturated coulors from Samsung or others, they just look fake in my point. I also don't notice any difference due to a last gen CPU, I mean who does? 4-5% performance in a Benchmark test, makes no difference in a daily use. I'm very happy with my phone, and I know I won't need a new phone for at least 5-6 years. And yers I don't care about updates, my last phone never got one and it works now for 5 years.

Very good points. The same as me. Updates don't make for a better phone as do no updates, it won't make the phone suddenly stop working. Speeds don't make any difference either most of my phones haven't been that fast but they are still good. All these petty points he uses are for people that just want perfection. No phone is perfect straight out of the box. All I want is a phone to text, ring play a few games and watch stuff on KZfaq. So what if its not waterproof, none of my phones have been waterproof. It doesn't matter. I liked this phone from the beginning and no amount of none updates none waterproofness none speed, none perfect camara will sway me from this phone.

Let's talk about smartphones in general. They've already peaked. You can't really improve the designs of Folds and Flips. All it can do is flip vertical or horizontally one-way and you really can't improve upon that design. Hence, why most of them are starting to look the same. It's like after Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, I don't believe MCU can climb higher that that. That was their Mount Everest. Their next climbs will never top what they did in Phase 3 and ending it with Endgame. That's about as good as a Disney MCU film will ever be. Unreachable. This is how I feel with current smartphones. It's the same thing over and over. KZfaqrs will try to get us excited but the enthusiasm wore off many years ago. I'm looking for the tech that will replace the smartphone. I'm not sure that's digital tattoos that Bill Gates is saying or AR glasses. But I do believe the latter can improve greatly these next 10 years. Like a 2034 version of the Apple Vision Pro will be a lot better than the 2024 version of it compared to say a 2034 Razr over a 2024 Razr. You can only do so much with a smartphone whether a slab or foldable. But it really hasn't changed much for the last 16 years.

I agree; the market matured for candy bar phones a while back, and flip and folding phones are already nearing their peak. There is only so much you can do with a one-trick pony, and flip phones have compromised for that trick of flipping the phone open and closed.

Number 6 concern: Moto forgot to add speediest mmwave 5G capability (n260/261) when they carried it over from China. Guess what IS going to have that in its latest & greatest incarnation? The Samsung Flip. Samsung also is going to smartly optimize cover screen apps with Google and will have no doubt a much better interaction with it, even though it is a little bit smaller. This coming from someone who can't stand those hypocrites at Samsung, but can read between the lines when I see it.

Too fragile too delicate easy to crack screen if dropped, and the camera is horrible-Also too hard to open phone which becomes annoying- I will stick with the candybar until there is a flip that has designed one that is easy to use- The display screen on the outside of phone was disappointing as well because most internet sites are not configured to fit sceen and you end up watching a matchbox looking screen just a novelty for now

Razr 40 Ultra comes with a case. Razr+ in the US does not. 33W may be the charger, but the phone supports 30W as per the spec sheet. Why it matters to you so much is a little beyond me. I also found some of these so-called concerns lacking context. Things like bringing up the smaller battery size in the same conversation as using the outer display which is smaller and should translate to less of a battery hit than using the larger inner display. Also mentioning that because of the 30W charging and smaller battery that you'll not only charge more but it will also not charge as quickly. On the other hand, 30W, while not fast, it's not terrible especially since you don't have a 5,000mAh battery you're charging which makes me question his logic on this. My Pixel 7 Pro that maxes out at around 23W charges fast enough for me but I don't drain my phones down to single digit battery, tops it will go down to 20% before I put it on the charger. I feel like he is just bringing up talking points for the sake of there not being too many legitimate ones to speak of. The possible damaging of the outside cover screen for instance. Most will be using a case and likely a screen protector and due to the smaller size and being more pocketable, even clumsy people should be able to have a better handle on it when closed than with a larger slab device.

I hope Josh's good buddy, Tony Stark AKA Michael Fisher, enjoys his Razr+ this month. I believe he will. He's a proud Motorola fanboy and we can't blame him. Motorola started it all. He once interviewed Martin Cooper, the grandfather of cell phones. I could get the Razr+ for really cheap. AT&T is offering it for $5 for the next 36 months. I only need to have a plan like that $65 unlimited starter one. Since I have ACP ($30 discount) and will enroll to autopay ($10 for postpaid but $15 for prepaid), my bill can go from $70 to only $30. I believe AT&T's promo for the Razr+ is better than T-Mobile's. The former is only $5 for the next 3 years and no line or trade-in required. T-Mobile wants you to add another line. Since I'm not leaving AT&T for the next 3 years, I think it's better. But T-Mobile is the only one offering it in magenta. But I keep asking myself, is it really worth it? I currently have a Z Flip 3 with CoverScreen OS finally updated twice the past month and a Razr 5G. My Razr 5G only has 6 apps on the cover display. It can't do Google Wallet or Photos. I'm not sure getting a third foldable will make me that much happier. The 6 apps on my Razr 5G's 2.7" cover display: GMaps, Netflix, Pluto TV, QuickPic, Tubi, and KZfaq. Mostly video streaming apps. On my Z Flip 3 has 12 apps since my sim is in it and CoverScreen OS can be buggy but useful. Flip 3's cover display is also better for widescreen content. The truth about having a bigger cover display is it still is shaped like half a slab. A square. Many apps aren't built for a square. When the keyboard pops up, it takes up most of the cover display. What makes CoverScreen OS so great and superior to SamSprung is the ability to lock each app to portrait or landscape. Then swipe up to go back. The flip phone I want is really that X Flip but I know it won't work on AT&T. I could do Metro but I hate the phones they offer. I wouldn't want a Pixel 6a or iPhone 11 if given for free to me. I'll probably wait when the X Flip goes down in price like say $500. It's currently around $870 on Aliexpress. I'm only getting the X Flip because I like the design the best. That silk gold is really attractive. The knock on the Razr+ is the resolution on the cover display got much, much higher. Many of my videos are at 720p at best. I don't see the pixelations from a lower resolution display. It's similar to playing old 16-bit ROMs on a PSP and Vita over a current smartphone. It fits better in smaller displays and lower resolution. The Razr's cover display is perfect for classic sitcoms in that 4:3 aspect ratio. The X Flip still has a modest resolution for its 3" cover display and it's great for a lot of 16:9 content since it's wider than the Razrs'. X Flip > Razr+ No wireless charging but same SoC while the X Flip looks nicer and packs a much bigger battery. A difference of 6-8 hours is significant. Plus, I would rather own a clamshell nobody has. I expect the cheaper Razr 2023 will be Motorola's best-selling foldable ever followed by the Razr+. I think the Razr+'s 3.6" is a bit of a cheat. I bet in a lot of cases, it's really more in the 3.4" range the Z Flip 5 will have. Because I expect more people will not have the video overlap the two cameras. They will have the option to view content above the cameras which decreases that 3.6" size. I'm a perfectionist in DESIGN and I'm only giving the Razr+ and Razr 2023 as part of the A-class. It's just not as pretty as the Razr 2019, Razr 5G, and Vivo X Flip in silk gold. Check Ben Sin's review of the X Flip a couple weeks back. That silk gold looks amazing with or without that clear case it came with. A beautiful sheen under direct sunlight. The best-looking flip since the Razr 5G. 2023 Wishlist 1. Vivo X Flip (silk gold) 2. Google Pixel Fold (obsidian) That's it. I'd rather get a Steam Deck or ROG Ally with my money over those two phones. Something different than another smartphone I'll get bored with after 6 months. The PC handheld like the AR headset/glasses is another industry where I could see it rapidly grow the next 10 years.
