Really nice bikes! Nice to see the industry introducing so many small displacement bikes. Having had many many bikes over the last 20 years, It is fantastic to see the quality of choices we now have with lighter bikes. Gone is my GS1200, Triumph Explorer, Harley Fatboy... all great bikes but so heavy to push around the garage or to pick up, (if ever down) Replaced with KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield 350 Classic, and can’t wait to see this new Triumph 400 Scrambler at dealership and if lucky, in the garage with other small bikes above. You can actually buy all 3 for the price of one new large displacement Adventure bike. Thank you Triumph for bringing us these bikes. Well done! BTW, don’t market as “beginner bikes” ... lots of very experience riders like myself are just becoming WISER motorcyclist.

As a returning rider who has been looking at the 390 Duke & the z400 this review has really peaked my interest. While great bikes, neither the 390, or Z400 have really grabbed my attention, the Triumph might just seal the deal. Thanks for the review, really appreciate it 👍

Having ridden the Z400 recently i have to say it really impressed. The chassis was absolutely brilliant, compliant but rock solid secure. The engine too was a peach and felt peppy without being buzzy. My fear, just like with the 390, when you go searching for higher BHP in a single you tend to lose the traditional advantages of the single but without ever getting near the BHP of a twin. On the other hand if it's just a styling thing, sure, the Triumph will mop up.

It’s pretty cool to see a bit of a resurgence in the 400 class. I’ve ridden all kinds of bikes, of many capacities (including a few 1000s) and the big ones are just SO overpowered for like 90% of road riding situations. These bikes are smaller and lighter, yet still enough power to have fun without breaking the law in 1st gear.

Your channel is generally my go-to for bike previews and walkarounds, but this time around, I ended up getting info from various other channels first - and now I realise I've been spoiled by Motobob with top-class production. You provide useful context (things like why a sub-frame is important and how the final drive ratio will affect performance), your delivery is easy on the ears all through long vids, and the camera work is always excellent. Keep up the fantastic work! Really excited about these two models, I'm really keen on a lightweight bike that can do >120kmph on long rides and be easier to handle than my heavy GT 650 - so it's likely the Speed 400 for me. The build quality and components look solid too.

Those Metzelers are a perfect tire choice for many bikes regardless of if they’re a sports oriented bike or not. Had the M7s on my SV650 and they got phenomenal mileage and had incredible cold and wet grip only moved to the Rosso’s because Metzler rubber gets a bit greasy once you track on a hot day or are riding the twisties in 110+° temps. Can imagine on a much lighter less powerful bike the wear difference between a sports tire of the M9’s type and a sport touring tire is minimal.

I don't think they compete with bmw(BMW G310 barely sells because it's rebadged tvs)... Knowing how aggressively harley davidson is giving info on their 440x bike right when bajaj gave update on these bikes and harley davidson x440 is launching July 4,its safe to say that these directly compete with harley davidson and new gen ktm 390... Apparently RE has put all of it's engineering team under the new 450cc 40bhp liquid cooled singles and it's rumored to be the most advanced RE yet... it's developed by RE UK team who worked for 650 series too... There's also report that it will replace the current himalayan and RE launched scram 411 just to sale/cleanup all the himalayan inventory... They can't price it above ktm 390 too because Yamaha is bringing in r3/mt03 this year... KTM and RE are dominant in this price range... This can take huge sales from ktm if priced right.. Competition in this segment is crazy right now... 300cc to 400cc is also becoming the like 150cc in India...

The pressure in the rear shock remote reservoir will be exactly the same as pressure in a shock without a remote reservoir because the swinging arm is facing the same movement through the same linkage and same weight spring. The extra capacity in the remote reservoir is there to provide a) extra volume of oil and gas so that the performance of the damping does not degrade so rapidly and b) through the surface of the reservoir an extra cooling area for the oil and c) a place where oil that has been frothed can loose the gas bubbles and consequently provide more consistent performance in damping the suspension movement

USD forks have more unsprung mass because the the wheel, the spindle, the brake disc and caliper and the steel tubes move, With right way up forks the steel tubes are static and the fork sliders move (usually aluminium and usually incorporating the caliper mounts). The steel tubes are much heavier than the fork sliders

On the topic of the dash, I definitely prefer to have double clocks, like on the Bonneville. But if its going to be single clock like here and on Street Twin/Scrambler then I do at least like to have analogue speedometer, which this has, and I like that it has all the info you need in that sidescreen too. So very well done here in my opinion, could only have been improved if they had done double clocks like for instance the Kawasaki Z650RS. For me, having both tacho and speedometer in digital format removes some of the sensation of progress somehow, I like to see the needle move up the range.

I am in love with Triumph bikes from the time I first saw these tremendously beautiful looking retro style bikes. Triumph Speed Twin 1200 is my love. I am glad these bikes are coming to India with affordable price, now the retro bike lovers have a choice to ride the quality bikes from the house of Triumph. I liked both these bikes.

Upside down forks don't put the lighter part of the fork on the unspring weight, the piece bolted to the wheel is the steel stantion, the lighter alloy part is actually the slider and becomes sprung weight. They do create more rigidity having the larger diameter part clamped in the yokes but certainly don't save unsprung weight but add to it.

@simonlangmead7
@simonlangmead7 Жыл бұрын
Speaking of the Royal Enfield twin cylinder 650 Interceptor, it has 47 horsepower. This new Triumph 400 single cylinder gets close to that with 39.5 horsepower. The RE Himalayan 400 single only has 24 horsepower. Triumph’s power productivity is far ahead of RE. Did you know the RE 650 Interceptor has a wet weight that is the same as a Triumph speed twin 900?

@@simonlangmead7 Yes I owned a Himalayan and I am about to buy an Interceptor. I would just love a Triumph twin, roughly the same size/weight/power as the original 60/70's Bonneville - it was perfect then and it would be perfect now...but with less oil leaks...and the electrics would work...

I'm so happy that Triumph has finally made a quality beginner bike but I'm really disappointed they didnt go 500. I love how Triumph are bringing out basic copies of the RE bikes, albeit three years later but they should satisfy Triumph fans if no one else. These are all compliments to what RE have managed to do over the last five years, recognising a big gap in the market for softer, more relaxed riding that many boomers and ladies in particular, have clearly embraced.
