I feel that the CFMoto 450NK was worthy of mention in this list for the lower end contenders. Of those shown the Ducati Monster catches the eye but is a lot of dosh. The little Triumph looks pretty well sorted and potentially great value. The E clutch Honda 650 will get my attention due to damage in the left hand that sometimes gets painful with lot of clutch pulls.

A single cylinder engines costs significantly less than a twin, and is easier (and less expensive) to manufacture and maintain. A 400cc twin would definitely cost more. What bothers me of the 400cc Triumphs and KTMs is that although they are designed to be repaired by an underqualified Indian mechanic with some gum, a hammer and a length of wire, maintenance costs in Europe will be on par with other more expensive bikes of the same brands.

Unless we’re buying a used bike or there’s a manufacturer’s demo ride parade in town, it’s almost impossible to know what we’re buying until after it’s bought. Are these diminishing opportunities to test ride the bikes we’re interested in buying unique to my area, or is it generally true?
@isaac_bear8 ай бұрын
Motorcycle dealers are unique in this regard. I wanted to test ride a bike years ago, and was told it can’t be started until it was purchased. How goofy is that? I would never buy a car without firing it up and taking it for a spin, why should a motorcycle be any different?
@RandomShart8 ай бұрын
More brand related in my experience. No problem getting demo rides at BMW, Triumph, Ducati etc, a little trickier at Suzuki / Kawasaki / Yamaha, and almost impossible (for me) to get a demo at Honda. There's reason BMW sell so many bikes, the dealer network, you could turn up with a 1-day old license wanting to buy a bike and they'll be happy to give you a demo ride.

I was VERY interested in the 400's from Triumph.. but then I found out that despite the increase of power from my Cb300r from 30 to 43, they will still have insanely close gearing... so other than out past 100kmh, I don't think most people would really notice the power difference... which is why I'm looking at larger 650's like Versys or 500's like NX500 because from the looks of it, it's not actually that much faster than the cb I already have.
@lordgibbness8 ай бұрын
Also your cb300 is about 30kg lighter!
@treessmusic8 ай бұрын
What do you mean when u say the close gearing effects power?
@adam3468 ай бұрын
@@treessmusic it affects your ability to use power and not how much power you have. If you have twice the power on one bike vs the other but the gearing is exactly the same you will end up shifting twice as much or just using less power on the higher hp one so you don't end up shifting all the time which means shifting pass 2nd into 3rd and using low-down power which generally stresses the engine more.. higher rpm or mid-range rpm are better for it but if you are not a fan of shifting all the time you will end up lugging the engine rather than shifting down or making it scream vs shifting up... so there needs to be a balance between power and the need for shifting and I think the cb300r has a decent one... adding more power just means more shifting and I don't typically use all the power of the cb unless I am doing twisties/highway riding.

I don't like the new design style of the new 2024 CB650R, ugly side air intake covers, preferred the old front light and the rear light. Display screen is the only improvement to me. The e-clutch doesn't appeal to me and sticks out of the side of the engine. The ultimate for naked bikes is the Kawasaki Z900RS that doesn't appear to have been revised for 2024.

From 3:50 the cb500 Hornet is basically a re-modelled cb500 with _some_ new parts thrown at it eh. I own the '22 cb500x and while I am mostly happy with what I am forced by law to content myself, a restricted power output (LAMS or A2), the bike represents okay value, and the bike runs cheaply, and reliably... But that effink tiny LED headlight is almost pointless. High beam is a spot of light about the size of a beach ball, and it's not very bright. There's also some weak fringe luminance but you cannot rely on that useless level of illumination alone to show the path of road ahead at night: bends, switchbacks, hairpins, tightening curves and so on. Answer (a) I whipped on a STEDI st1k single row slim LED bar about 13 inches wide, turns out its just right even looks anaemic, and fitted the Honda factory option foglights. Which meant the adventure bars as well. It plus Givi box added another 20% to the ride away cost of the stock bike onto my new bike purchase. It will never look pretty with the GIVI top box. The light bar's polarised wave is not as polarised as claimed, methinks. TBH if you do not aim its elevation, there is a lot of reflected glare from road signs, which will defeat the aim of turning eyeball night into sunlit day all along the beam height. With brightly reflected light bounced from road signs shining back human eyes are quickly dazzled, and you won't pick out the features of road landscape relevant to their aided vision. Aim that LED light bar so it maxxes out on road surface somewhere 400m - 800m out yonder (has amazing reach). This thing has amazing output and can be left on all night, if required, its current draw is miniscule and will not drop your battery recharging rate especially with use of relay fused harness supplied. Only had to solder an illuminated lightswitch mounted at the handlebar. With rider patronage, these guys will make the case for development of beam polarization so vehicle lighting won't impact the bounce of light reflected back from roadside signage. This polarized beam is an actual thing, and STEDI are competitive: they are continually putting new lights onto the market. That's my 2cp thnx for reading me through. cheap sexy single row slim LED lightbar format suits for bikes: www.stedi.com.au/st1k-13-5-inch-e-mark-led-light-bar.html
