A little info about me. My name is Andrei Bodrov, originally I'm from Moscow, Russia, and now I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Back in Moscow I was a motorcycle instructor and creator of Moto Control Beginner & Advanced motorcycle rider courses, which quickly became the most popular courses in Moscow (well, at least the advanced one😁). My advanced training course makes emphasis on slow speed riding techniques at first (such as good clutch and throttle control, proper riding posture, proper use of vision, etc.), then proceeds to more advanced techniques (such as aggressive braking, trail braking, maximal lean angle). The course incorporates a lot of exercises from DOSAF slow speed riding (similar to police rodeo like motorcycle training in USA), braking and cornering exercises and motogymkhana style riding. And now, since I actively learn English - I decided to post some useful videos for both your and mine practice!😉

@@WartaiI was trying to teach a Friend who has never ridden a Bike before and he was getting better on the Rebel 250 we were using and that bike didn't have much power so it was very Forgiving so I forgot about a Few things until he went and bought himself a 1200CC Cruiser and ended up throwing himself off the Bike because he gave it waayy to much throttle but I did tell him that Bike was way to much Bike as a Starter Bike and it needed a Ton of work and he just responded I don't care if there is rats in the engine I just want to ride it

If this happened, remember you got a handle on the left side called the CLUTCH. Pull it in and it’ll take you out of gear instantly and you can readjust or come to a stop and regather.

I, funnily enough, suffered from the opposite issue on my first day of riding, I used to give to little gas, and I stalled the bike like 15 times, only issue is my wrist gets tired when I ride for a long time, and I can't really lean forward too much cause I don't have a learner's yet so I ride on a farm, and the ground is quite sandy and rocky, so generally bad. Also, I'm 180 odd cm and the bike isn't all that large.

Andrej, you are the best instructor! I'm 44 and have my license since my 16 th birthday, but stopped riding for a long time. Last summer a honda cbr125 came to me and I started again. During winter I watched so many of your Videos and now I can practise the lessons I got from you. It is so much fun and i can see the progress in very short time. I'm a motorcycle instructor too, and this is something I always teach very early on too, number 1 cause of supermanning on a bike and can spot when things are about to go wrong a mile away when the rider readjusts their hand and grabs on from above...

This was never a problem for me, until I recently put a new free flowing exhaust on my 650. The throttle response became much sharper at low revs, nearly acting like an on/off switch. I'd always learned to set the brake lever as you demonstrate, so that outstretched arms and fingers form a straight line. I was therefore surprised to be caught out by the new exhaust's power surge making me do involuntary bunny hops. After that bad experience, I learned to be far more delicate with the throttle, but your video inspired me to straight away go into my shed and raise the brake lever by a few degrees more, so that there would never again be the risk of accelerating when clenching the handlebars tight.

As a new rider I realized now that I am leaning forward when I am opening the throttle because it feels more comfortable. I was doing what you suggested without knowing it :)

I have been riding with a couple fingers resting on the brake for so long that I CANNOT ride any other way. Even if I try intentionally to just curve my hand around the throttle, if I look down after a few seconds - yep, those two fingers have found their way back to the brake lever again...

@@jasper46985yea I rode a bicycle and electric scooter for years and I had that habit too. It will cause you to not be able to handle the bike properly especially in a turn or if you need to lean. You can’t move your hands and arms as fast or precise with those fingers covering the brake in an emergency movement or reaction either. Also messes with the grip because your hands are spread wide.

Your videos are always well made and the lessons are easy to understand. You should have included the importance of the left hand when in a panic. Whiskey throttle is usually caused by a panic move or results in a panic. Controlling the clutch is the ultimate safety mechanism. Simply squeezing the clutch lever at any time instantly stops the power to the wheels and allows the rider to control the situation and hopefully release the whiskey throttle. Everything you said is correct, just need to add a reminder about the clutch.

In my opinion this only works well when first/in parallel thaught the friction zone technique. Otherwise you're teaching people to grab the clutch when in danger, which puts you actually in more danger when the bike is tipped over.

I had a Whiskey throttle moment with my electric scooter but thankfully due to its design, the power got cut automatically when i applied the brake in my left hand and it saved me from crashing into a car ahead at a red light

Had my unusual start last Friday, when I jumped on the bike after work and was not concentrated. It was not the whiskey in the jar phenomenon but something I was happy nobody had seen. :-D Was a rodeo kind of Super Duke 1290 start which I managed with no crash or falling down. Phew.... stuntmaaaan. And that after over 30 years of riding and even training slow skill stuff.

I kept reviving my 650 when braking, i think it had alot to do with hand position on the throttle. Been riding 6 month's and it's been 5 months since I've done it 😊

Don't be afraid of it, it's meant to slip, use the slip. Let it out nice and easy with a little throttle until you're in gear, enough to not stall but not so much the clutch is trying to catch up. As long as you don't just let the clutch out all at once (pop the clutch) or worse with high rpms, you're fine. You'll quickly get a feeling for what it wants/needs to get going. You'll realize there's no need to fear it. On hills, hold the rear or front brake and let it off as the clutch starts to grab. That's all there is to it. Unless you get a bike with a Rev matcher (blipper) watch some videos on rev matching for downshifting, it will take a you a little bit of practice to nail down but once again it's easy with a bit of practice. Have fun and be safe!

One tip I wish I knew earlier: When riding in heavy cross wind, tuck in and widen your elbows. It makes you more stable when forces on the side try to knock you over. Stay safe!

A surprise wheelie was exactly what happened the very first time I sat on a bike. It was on a Suzuki GN125 that belonged to my gf at the time. This happened after school in the school parking lot. She witnessed it and could confirm the story when it came up. Because everyone said „No way you popped a wheelie first time you sat on a bike and without crashing“. I considered myself lucky that day…could have gone sideways so easily. The front suspension probably didn’t like what happened but it was fine in the end. This was more than 25 years ago. No wheelies since.

I just got my Dutch motorcycle licence. Its not that hard, but we have a lot of mandatory lessons. - theory - Motor Handling exam - street/traffic riding exam. It gets one very well prepared for driving a Motorcycle. With a bit of talent, you'll ride real smooth after all those lessons.

can i request a topic? i know you already made a u turn video, but: the second time i ever dropped my ride was during a driving lesson, and i had to do a u turn using a driveway. here in europe, some roads are really narrow and you have to use everything available. the issue is, driveways ate often times not level. quite steep even. how can i make a thight turn on a steep slope? lean and the bike drops, dont lean and you run out of space. that drop still botheres me

I have a slightly off-topic question, but it may be a little bit related to this topic. When I use engine break in a corner is it similar to using a little rear break? Does it help to lean the bike a bit more or is it a bad approach? Of course different gears have different engine braking effects, which makes things a bit complicated.

Hi! Yes, engine braking works exactly like the rear brake in this case. The only difference is with the rear brake energy is being dissipated through heating the brake pads and rotor, and with engine braking - through squashing and heating air in cylinders and throwing it into exhaust. The end result is the same - your rear wheel spins slower. Idk about it helping to lean the bike though, I never observed such an effect. It helps tighten the curve because the bike loses speed, but it doesn't lean more because of braking (unless you're skidding the rear tire like a supermoto racer😁)

You shouldn't be braking in a corner at all. You brake before the turn or roll off the throttle a little.

@@kylemartin1581 Yeap, i try to choose the correct speed before the turn. Sometimes a little correction with engine break is usefull. I feel that even a sudden throttle drop can give rear tyre a bit freedom especially if i'm in a lower gear so i try to be cautious. I try to be extremely soft with the front brake in any cornering condition, but I don't want to forget about it entirely. The primary cause is 🦌:) I encountered a situation in which four small "Bambi" jumped in front of me. They occupied all sides, so there was no escape route. A good breaking technique is undoubtedly life-saving :D

What about having a roll forward throttle instead, similar to a car in the way that you push down (towards the front) to go or would this cause other problems like extra fatigue in your hands and arms?

Upon braking, you'll unintentionally accelerate, as body will lean forward, and wrist will rotate as hands are used to stabilise the body.

Try to never take off without your right foot on the break. This makes for a smooth take off and prevents loosing control.

Never apply brake and throttle at the same time. That is a bad habit. Control the power to the wheels via the clutch. Proper use of the clutch is how you create a smooth transfer of power. Even the worst whiskey throttle does nothing to you or the bike if you control the clutch. The last time I dropped my bike I applied whiskey throttle as the bike hit the ground, but since my left hand never released the clutch, the engine just revved. Had I not maintained control of the clutch, the bike would have been severely scratched at minimum.
