Geez guys, enough with the trash talk...you're all missing the point! This is literally the rebirth of the two-stroke. For racing purposes, there is no better engine. Think about it- Half the parts and twice the power of a similar displacement four-stroke. Yes I know that four-strokes have made huge gains in power and make almost as much power, but the smoker still makes more power per cc, and is a LOT less complex and WAY more lightweight. And they have a lot fewer spinning bits and therefore have less rotational inertia, which makes it feel even lighter yet. And maintenance is cheaper. This might not be the race bike you want right now, but if two-strokes make a comeback and the factories start serious development and compete against each other, then we will surely see the lightest and quickest MXers ever built. And Honda- you killed the stroker's in the first place, so if you don't want to build them, screw You!

You make alot of sense in some ways ... But you gotta remember your audience ....Who rides bikes? The young. Think back to < 20 or even < 30 yrs of age. What did you know at that point in life. -- Two strokes bikes as we knew growing up is over. Adding this electronic stuff can only make them more complex. Good or bad, that is the bottom line. Compare this change to adding radiators to bikes. Myself, I have to think water-cooled bikes are better in many ways, including performance and piston longevity. And yes, more complex. But air-cooled bike still have a purpose. -- Two strokes dirt bikes have to get within environmental laws or they will be forced out of 1st world countries. 3rd world countries like where I live, where many here still ride rotary style 2t bikes, maybe ~never. Get that. Rotary style 2 strokes engines with oil pumps that still work. Plus mostly 80s era 2t bikes made by Yammahammer. Want the original mono-shock bike? It is here and ridden, in original form. Probably since the early 90s. --- Yes, I have rode 2t bikes with oil pumps. Oil lasted a long time with them it seemed ... Myself, I have a hard time understanding how a bike can be 'oiled' correctly at the many different throttle positions with this mixing we do today. Keep in mind that a 2T engine has not been developed any in well over a decade really, other than whatever ktm and Husky(before the ktm buyout), have done... Nothing much if any towards eliminating pollution I'd guess, which is why this new, more complex, more expensive engine is here ... What would happen if something as simple as a oil injector was added our older 2T engines AND a little development on those engines to stop pollution? Has anyone ever heard of such work being attempted? After hearing these new-fangled bikes still spit fuel into the expansion chamber as all 2t bikes, what is the real change here?

I've had both, I'm back to a 2 stroke. W/ E-start. Love it. It is my prediction that 2 strokes will continue to make gains and we may see them in outdoor pro motocross. 4 strokes do a lot of things great as well, obviously. Time will tell but I love my 2 stroke 300. But I'm just a weekend trail hack

Tom Duggan I have both 2017 TE 300 and FE 250. There is no comparison in power or torque. The 300 is way faster and easier to ride offroad. The TE 250 has a much wider powerband and revs to 12,800 rpm vs 9000 for the 300. The TE 250 requires much more concentration to manage traction and torque. Both are big fun.

Change the spring out in the power valve and see how that power is, it's also an off road bike not an MX bike 2t or not it shouldn't hit like an MX bikes, in off road Enduro you want traction.

It's a woods bike. Nothing about is is ment for a mx track. Wide ratio 6 speed, lights, 18" rear wheel, flywheel weight, tuned for woods. It's ment to be easy to ride and not be tiring like a mx bike. They are slower than a tc250. By quite a bit actually. But for off road they are way better. I would take any TE over a TC any day even though it's slower and heavier.

MX bikes need an ELEC start ...Starting was a very big issue with the first 4t bikes when hot during a race. From time to time you still see a MXer not being able to start a bike quickly today... One bad race result is not acceptable in todays' ama racing ...Estart is now being offered on almost all the Japan MX bikes due to this reason... I'm a bump-starter from way-back so I don't really need an estart plus, I'm not that old :)... yet

Electric start is lighter than a kick start, what kills it is the battery needed to power it. But now with lithium ion batteries it's really freakin close. If you have a bike that has both, yeah it will be heavier but if you ditch the kick start all together electric start with modern battery is basically the same weight.

The 2 stroke MX came of age in the late '60's curiously by Husky, CZ and Maico. Then was transformed in the '70's and '80's to most of what you see now. Long travel suspension, light weight and superb power. If you pinterest old MX bikes you'll get a flavour of what was around when the Japanese took an interest in competing with the established European brands. Just when you thought a 400 was probably enough, Maico made a 700!!

You change your oil every eight tankfuls with a four-stroke anyway, so if it is half as much work to add oil to a dedicated chamber every four tankfuls It's the same maintenance and you don't have to dispose of old oil at all. 2-stroke madness baby.

Really liked the write-up in the September issue! That opening of the body paragraph, that one word is an absolute load of bs... As for hurricanes, I went through Harvey and don't let the television fool you; the rainfall in OC TX was not the source of flooding. They opened up the dams all along the coast, even Houston was subjected to the dams opening up to cause catastrophic flooding. Not one damn dam failed, they just unloaded because they are all being co-opt by large cities like Houston for the water. They retain too much and then they unload it all over the course of the evening through nighttime. No rainfall can drop over a foot of water in 45 minutes, but somehow the rain gauge and ground water didn't meet up together. EPA MY ASS...

We all know that on standard 2T bikes, that expansion chamber fills with the gas+oil mixture on part of the stroke and is then sucked back out of the pipe and into the combustion chamber and used for combustion. More gas = more power. So the question is: 1) Is that happening with the EFI bikes. 2) If the expansion chamber is not being filled with combustible materials, why is a pipe of this size and look still used on these new-fangled bikes? Thanks for any responses.
@danhenderson783
@danhenderson783 7 жыл бұрын
250txc The expansion chamber is doing the exact same thing here as it does on a carbureted engine. The pressure wave bounces back unburnt fuel and air and stuffs it into the combustion chamber.

@250txc
@250txc 7 жыл бұрын
Dan, just to clarify your words, this mixture going into the chamber does or does not contain oil? Please correct me on any of this but wasn't the fuel+oil mixture going the chamber in the older 2T engines causing part of the emissions problem? I'll go do some reading now on what Husky is doing here with TPI ...that line below can from a bike selling web site... Hope there is more to this than just an oil pump regulating the oil flow ... The line below is a little mis-leading to say the least.. I rode 2t bikes in the 70s that had oil pumps so nothing new there there. Seems like oil lasted a long time with them. **Well, actually, the new Transfer Port Injection (TPI) eliminates the need for pre-mixing of gas and oil altogether. More importantly, it drastically reduces emissions and fuel consumption.**

Gotta agree with you to a high degree ... I'm a Husky rider since the days of "On any Sunday" ... 2T bikes ruled the day back then in the dirt .. We've progressed(?), good or bad, to 4T engines ruling pretty much, ~100% on tracks really due to what OEMs want to sell and laws. I do own a EFI Italian made 2012 Husqvarna TC250. And I never ride it really ...Due to the fact that I do not want a fuel pump or some other complex thing happening to me out on the trails where I ride .. The environmental laws are forcing this change as stated at the start of this video and I'm OK with that. But at age 60 almost, I'm finishing out my life with a old 2008 WR250 Husky 2T bike and a carburetor. The oil tank and oil pump sound like the best idea on the bike to me :) ... Cost is maybe the worst and cost is one of the driving forces that is killing off dirt bike riding ..... I'll also say, these bikes and all other internal combustion engines on bikes, just might have a short life because ELECT bikes just cure so many issues with bike riding in general.

jamen brooks normally a KTM/Husky will be around 150hrs for the top end and it's not hard or expensive esp compared to an equivalent 4t, some may do it sooner but that's about where the manual suggests if you been mixing it right jetting is right, though you won't have that problem here, as no carb or premix needed, also proper warm up of a 2 stroke is important if you want your to top ends to go the distance! Many do this wrong and it's simple as!

I go lots more than a yr on my 08 WR250 Husky ... Just a trail rider here but ride all yr long here...You would not believe the hrs on my bike ... You can change piston and rings every 3rd ride but no need to really unless you are some top racer guy or something like that ... As for these new bikes. who knows? Read the manual and it just might say to replace the ~$300 piston and ring set often quite possibility. Read the 4t manuals ... They say to replace these items and the crankshaft very often .... You make the call ;0)
@maverick2242
@maverick2242 7 жыл бұрын
250txc Yep and you can do it that way, I'd say a couple of things about that, if you keep your oil fresh, filters and reeds, have good jetting use quality oil you can go further like you have! So you may already do this, check your spark plug for colour minimum see if it's burning well, pull you header pipe off and with a torch shine up into the cylinder and move the position up and down slowly check the piston and rings for wear, you can extend your life, you should do a compression test at 100hrs and every 50hrs after that if you are going to go over the 150hr mark for a top end, you ma get 200hrs but to me that's taking unessecary risks! But everyone to they're own, I don't know the service life of those older Huskys, but the more modern bikes 4t and 2t seem to need more care rather the less as technology changes, yes they are very reliable looked after properly, most issues are with people (muppets) not the bikes! But they will blame the bike every time. What you run the risk of is a bigger maintenance bill or even bigger problems if you continue to use that theory until something does happen, often we don't pick up performance drop because it happens slowly or maybe you ride at lower altitudes, at higher altitudes say above 4000 ft you would notice compression drop allot more! But clearly you look after your bike! I prefer to stick to the manual, having ridden raced 2strokes for over 35 years I have never had an issue or failure of a bike I have worked on! I learnt early on if a bike shop did though to check everything afterwards, I had a clutch basket come loose during a race once thanks to the mechanic not bending over the nut tab on the washer that stops the bolt from loosening! I came in pulled the cover off and saw it straight away tightened her up and rode away no problems again. Those Italian Huskys were awesome though, I loved those bikes and always wanted one, I think Stefan Merriman was still racing for the Husky Factory team then, he won multiple Enduro World Champions on those bikes! Good luck dude👍 Saying that though, these are performance bikes
@250txc
@250txc 7 жыл бұрын
You make lot of good points there... Myself, I'm not a racer. I'm best described as a cow-trailer from the past who still rides today, at the 35 yr range also. My trail riding today, is really more like a micro dual-sport ride, giving it a term that is used so often day ... Some hardtop, into gnarly dirt, back to hardtop over and over, day after day ... So maintenance for racer is probably not what I do... Plus, I pay for all parts and maintenance work. Yes, a bike, any bike or mechanical device, has got to have maintenance and after a ride, between rides, and during a ride are all the times to look a bike over ... Before a ride ok, but now is the time to ride. Listening to a bike is a very good thing to do. Most internal bearings make a noise before blowing apart and destroying lots ... Wheels give feedback when their bearing as they are going out ... -- I just don't do all those compression checks on the cylinders as people do today ..Not that it is not a good idea, but I started riding in the early 70s and the way we knew if a bike needed rings was by sound mostly .. If the bike made a ringing sound, ring-a-ding-ding, when REVing it, the bike needed rings OR if when kicking it over, it was very easy to kick over.. Never hear bikes ring-a-ding-ding much today... Not sure if we had a manual in the 70s but we were well aware of spark-plug colors ...And yep, I use that today and have a low-end rich REV area that probably a smaller pilot jet would fix ....But it only shows up on hardtop usage and never a issue on trails, so I just do not bother with it. I ride 2t machines and am OK with it :0) Don't try that on a 4t machine as a dead spot is hard to avoid on them for some reason. I do all this stuff today and for the past decade at least with my Huskies, and yes kiddies, do not do this. And yes, I do realize a bike loses power slowly over time and a rider may not notice. But again, I am not racing for a championship AND I never pin my WR250 Husky AND I never run out of power AND I have had no adverse effects to date AND yes, many real life video on utube of my dirt bike rider. Meaning that ~$250 for a simple piston&ring job, at 100-150 (bi-monthly?) is in my pocket. I'll go as far as saying this attitude goes into other aspects of life to the tune that I have never worked a day in my 50s. (Didn't even plan it, just got fed up with what I saw when the states collapsed in 2008 and quit.) Not sure where nikasil coatings for cylinders came along at, but it cured so many issues with cylinders I do think... --- Sometimes, I'd like to put a meter on my 2t just to see how far I go before a change of any hardware, but why waste the time and effort and money on a ~meaningless subject? I like my money so I keep it :0) NOTE: Husqvarna bikes have got history ...They were the 1st MX bikes brought to the USA by Edision Dye when MX racing came over from the EU to America. Many many of todays greats have roots with Husky, to include Mitch Payton.

250txc mate I hear ya and I still also use my ears as well re listening to how a bike performs, I do most of my own work so it's cost of parts so for me, it's not a big cost, plus I enjoy working on my bikes as much as riding them, performance is everything to me, Im anal about it and have been since I was a kid, when I bought my first dirt bike a full MX mini, my dad told me you better learn to maintain it fix it, or you lose it, my Mom, was hoping for the latter, but I had a good ear like you and for the first time in my life applied myself to a book, the bike manual and any MXA mag I could get my hands on, no internet back then, no KZfaq vids and 3 hrs from a service centre one way. So I have carried this on through my life, esp with bikes, even though I'm not a pro, I pride myself on prepping my bikes like works bike without the bling parts, but they will always be meticulously prepared even for a trail ride, but I still race clubman level, but everyone to they're own happy trails mate cheers, 🤙

This is a modern soft trail bike, some of you are expecting way too much. Why they are trying to flog it around an MX track is all a bit silly and an unfair representation of what it's for.

They do come with the TE's but they are a simple flag style. The mount attaches with a longer bolt in place of the levers pivot bolt.

Sleepy .Time One cable is for opening the throttle body, the other is a cable for closing the throttle body in case the throttle body didn't return closed by itself. It is a safety feature

In a year or two I'm gonna be buying a bigger more powerful bike but I was standing next to all the husqys and the Hondas and the husqvarnas were rlly wide, heavy, and tall and every model they had was huge compared to the new crf450r. The new 450r didn't even feel that different sitting on than my crf230 other than having like double the hp. I already think my 230 is heavy so I couldn't stand riding one of these pigs around.
