Motogadget M-Unit Wiring for Honda CB750 Cafe Racer Build Project Bike | Munit Install Guide | 16
Having laid out all of the electrical components under the seat of my cafe racer project in episode 15 in this episode I connect all of the wires to my M Unit for my CB750 Cafe Racer project bike.
Although I didn’t buy these separately, here are links to help you to find them 🙂
M.Button: ebay.us/TrHwJQ
Motogadget M-Unit updated version: ebay.us/h4R21B
Motogadget 3 button switch black: ebay.us/vuSS4A
Other things I used:
Automotive Electrical Connector Blocks Kit: ebay.us/4v0p4U
Bullet Connectors Kit 400: ebay.us/AZzf52
Spade Connectors Kit 900: ebay.us/YfWJZ3
Solder Seal Sleeve Terminals: ebay.us/q1yP80
I was very lucky to get a lot of Motogadget M-unit components included when I bought my Honda Cafe Racer project bike. These were the things that actually attracted me to buy the bike in the first place. They make wiring a custom bike up a lot easier especially if you have the matching switches and the magic M Button.
The Motogadget M.Unit makes a lot of the wiring very simple. Basically, it has inputs for things like light, horn, brakes and starting on one side with the outputs on the other. Using the M Button means that all of the buttons on the handlebar switches come in on one wire. The M Button sends different signals down the wire depending upon which button is pressed and the M Unit then sends out the appropriate power. For example, if you press the horn, the M Unit sends power to the horn so that it sounds. While it is doing this it has lights on the top that tell you where signals are coming from and where it is sending power to. This makes it great for fault-finding.
It also handles some things that would previously have had a separate device, such as the indicator relay. Depending upon which version of the M Unit you get there is also the possibility to program different effects for the brake lights and indicators.
I used 2.8mm spade connectors on the end of the wires that connect to the M Unit. I don’t like just putting wires straight into a unit like this, plus they look so much better when you inspect the wiring.
Overall I am very pleased with the way that the wiring has gone together. You always feel that you could have done it better, but this is probably the best bike wiring I have done so far. I can’t wait for the weather to improve so that I can start to use this bike in anger, but there is a lot more work to do before then.

Great video, came here while doing my research for my own install and was not disappointed. I’ll be doing my own install on a Honda Bobber. One thing that I recommend is to make yourself your own wiring diagram so you can trouble shoot later just in case. Good luck on the project!

You've earned yourself a new subscriber mate. Got my work cut out for me on a Suzuki GS850G with a smorgasbord of (how could it be anything other) electrical issues. I aspire to be as calm as you when I get down to making a new loom with the M.Unit.

Great. I love that generation of Suzuki, I owned a few. You might find some useful stuff in my other CB750 videos about wiring, Have a look through the playlists.

I have watched umpteen videos on Y tube on this gadget, not one of them shows the work required to connect to the individual items such as head lamp indicators, does it just require the lives from each of these taken to the output on the m unit???
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 6 ай бұрын
Yes, for things like the indicators, horn, lights etc the connection on the M Unit is the live feed. So the thing gets the power from the M Unit and then goes to earth to complete the circuit. The M Unit also works as the fuse box, so if there is a short on a circuit, say the indicators, the stop working and the M Unit flashes the light for that item. I hope this helps. I have found it really easy to wire up, especially using the M Button in place of having all of the switches connected to it.

Nice job, look forward to more of this. Excuse my ignorance, but what happens with elements like coils/regulator/rectifier etc. when using this system?
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH Жыл бұрын
All of the items you list are still needed. If you watch my other videos in this series you will see where I wire up the coils, solenoid, and reg/rec. The M-Unit is a switching system, but does include the indicator relay. I hope that helps.

If you look on the Cafe Racer playlist kzfaq.info/sun/PLZCsrCcblKI_sOuZow0mNHIz0wBBN3Wr_ the reg/rec is in part 15 and the coils are in part 13. I hope these help.

Tidy install. Do you have any pictures or video showing the routing and connectors for the regulator/rectifier? I'm struggling with how to hide the wiring and connector as much as possible for my own CB build.
@SPANNERRASH

The video going live today may give you a view of what I have done so far. If you look through the play list you will see that I placed the reg rec below the plate under the seat. I am reluctant at this time to cut the wires down so basically I am intending to hide them between the battery and the oil tank. I hope this helps.

Hi. If I am to put tjis on my DR 800, do I still need the CDO and Regulator/Rectifier? Mine were stolen.
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH Жыл бұрын
Hi, not really sure what you are asking. But I think that it is this. The regulator rectifier take the generated current from the engine and charges the battery. The M-Unit would work without the reg/rec but when the battery charge runs down it would stop. It doesn't do anything to control the charge. Not sure what a CDO is, I think you may mean CDI, which is the ingnition module. The M-Unit will send power to whatever ignition system you have, but it only turns the power on and off to it. So if you have CDI (or points, or some other type of electronic ignition) then you will still need them to make the engine fire. I hope this helps.

@@SPANNERRASH Yes, I meant the CDI. Pardon the typo. Thanks for your help

Do you need to use a boss bar for ground/earth for the munit
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH Жыл бұрын
No, the munit itself earths to the frame, so you could just run all of the other earths to the frame too. I just used a bar for this one, because it was there when I originally picked up the bike.
