Is an adventure motorcycle a strong first choice for getting into riding, or are you jumping into the deep end? That'll depend on specifically what you choose, but there's a host of great beginner adventure motorcycles, here's the pros and cons....

I had a Versys 300x for my first bike, and it was fantastic for my purposes. My ride to work is largely dirt/gravel roads, with a little bit of freeway riding, and it fit my needs perfectly

They seem to be the forgotten ADV, and very underrated, especially considering how well priced they are!

One extra downside - everyone will assume you’re over 45. I joke but I am also nearly 40 and just started thinking about an ADV… it’s a thing.

Haha both true and weird as I'm almost 40 now too! Definitely feels like the natural progression. I put a deposit down on a Transalp!

@@MotoJournoKris haha I went to put the money down for a transalp too lol! The Honda dealer near me is also the CFMoto dealer though, and I reckon CFMoto are giving dealers a bigger slice than Honda, because he REALLY sold the 800MT. Finding it very hard to chose between them at the moment; it’s tried and trusted vs new and shiny lol. Weirdly I didn’t actually worry about CFMoto reliability until the dealer said ‘it’s based on a KTM!’ For now I’ve decided to sit on it for a few months to see what speaks to me… but I think I’m going ADV. I’m in Victoria and I’ve been getting to the end of the EJ and turning around too long - it’s time to take the unsealed road down to woods point!

Yep those 800MTs look pretty awesome too and they are based on that KTM 790, with CFMOTO even making that engine for KTM now. They've gotten good reviews as well and been out long enough to get some proper longer term thoughts. Plenty of the local ADV riders who bought them seemed to think they are a good thing. Especially for the price! There's quite a wait for the Transalp, seems like Honda haven't quite got the supply issues under wraps. They might have been caught a bit unaware with the Transalp, as my local dealer does have the Hornet and a fair few other models in stock now. That option to just comfortably explore anywhere is a real draw card though. @@Bobby-wn5yr

450NK or the new MT? They're all looking like competitive offerings at this stage. The tubeless rims on the Himalayan though is quite a standout, and the 450MT has the same as standard,

Loving this series. What are the chances of you doing a RE 350 vs GB350 video for beginner riders?

Thanks for your input MJK. I think in the past the 390 Adventure is your sister’s bike… does she let you ride it on gravel roads or just bitumen? I’m actually looking forward to riding the 450MT when it arrives. More from 80-20 rule.

Thankfully she's not overly precious about it, so I've had a chance to ride it on gravel roads too. Nothing crazy gnarly though like single trails however. Definitely keen to test out one of those 450MTs, they look like what a lot of people having been hoping for, for quite a while.
