Heck yeah! Stoked to see the build! The R6 didn’t disappoint! I still go back and watch those. 😌 Thinking about an R7 the only thing I hate is that center face light.

Seems like most "reviews" by regular people on YT are way too forgiving/kind, and many of them spend more time defending the flaws than they do on actually reviewing the bike.

Am I the only person who thought that new R7 is not that good of bike? I mean we already know it was based on MT 07 so we can guess the problems from there. The only thing I can't find is the rear sprocket size. Is it the same as MT or smaller?

The people at TST are great and they have detailed videos on how to install all their parts I love their parts, currently I’m running their integrated tail light with the flash relay.

Does anyone know how tall Brent is? Do you think someone 6ft3 would sit comfortably on this riding about 45min to 1 hour each way, most days? Really thinking about this or the mt-07, but heard naked bikes aren’t that good on highway

You mentioned the mirrors...I'm a big fan of turn signals up high in the mirrors since I strongly feel other drivers are more likely to notice them than if they are in the fairing. Even if the mirrors are not the same exact style with a physically mount just the same??

The TST integrated taillight for the r6 works on this bike, BUT the conector is different so it has to be swapped from the stock taillight, unless TST has already a taillight out for the R7. Another good addition wood be the Hord Racing Airbox, gives a good few extra ponies with a tune.

I think they screwed up with the naming on this bike. The “R” makes it seem like it’s a R6 replacement and with the “7” people think it would be faster. But it’s a Mt07 with fairings which is a slower bike meant for lower speeds… should have named it something like the Yamaha Mt07R

So your saying you use 100% of the power on a big bike like a r1, my cbr1000rr is too quick for the road, that's the point of the r7, on a big bike you probably only use half the power anyway.

@@corsa12000 backroads, weekend twisties, and occasional rev limit 6 gear highway. Yes I use the full power of those bikes. Heck iv already held top speed on my mt07. This bike missed the mark imo. Needs more power for me to buy it. I would rather just have mt07 around town and r6 or r1 for fun.

We all know it HAS to have an exhaust and a tune. This is the only way this motorcycle wakes up. If you throw a sprint filter in it for extra get up more power to you but I believe that the exhaust, tune, filter setup would make this bike a beast it already seems to make decent torque specs just needs a bit more power. Good review…honest review I enjoy that about you!

I'm in the UK too (SW midlands), and trying to decide between the R7 and the RS660. I don't think 70bhp is enough for me but access to a tuner shop and/or some performance parts might swing it. Something keeps pulling me back to the R7 and I can't put my finger what that is.

Check TST for the MT07 chain adjusters, they double as spool mounts so you have a lift spot as well

im getting my a2 lisence and i wanted a 35kw restricted bike i could learn how to race, do some track and ofc use it on the street aswell, untill im old enough to buy a 600 wich is like 2 years. Would you recommend the r7? i dont really like the rs660 i find it kinda ugly compared to the others and its also 2.5k dollars more expensive than the r7. edit: the r7 is more reliable and i can unrestrict it even though i dont have the A lisence cuz yamaha dont usually change the documents after unrestricting it.

The R6 mirrors fit the R7 if you make a longer bridge loom the R6 sprockets fit. Get EBC EFPA pads for it And TWM levers they do a brembo master cylinder 16mm lever for it. The front bikini cover is the same as the R6 hence why the screen fits. Gilles tooling do chain adjusters for it best on the market.. Great newbie bike But the R9 is what we all want more torque then the R6 and not as frightening as the R1

I’m kinda part of the first class of people you listed, I’ve never really riden a bike of any kind, but I love the bike life, fell in love with motorcycles and fell in love with the R7. I wouldn’t really track it but I definitely have roads that are partially clear of traffic and have some nice twisty roads. Love your opinion vid it helps a lot for me going 17 and thinking on what first bike is best bike for me and my little to no experience.

I find the best way to load a bike in the back of a keep gladiator is to ask all the dudes you got packed in there as long as they wash the lube off their hands first. Gloves work too!

See if that turbo kit from the MT-07 will fit lol. Extreme Creations makes one and they have a video of an their MT-07 putting down like 115hp on the dyno lol (ideally after you change those awful brakes…)

Actually yamaha did a ton of market research for this bike so someone must want it. As a daily street bike its a good choice. But yamaha should have given it at least a differnt tune or something to make it more than the MT

I have an R3 and was considering an R7 to upgrade but honestly I feel like the R3 is fast enough. I feel like I am never 100% throttle and there would be no point to the power besides low end torque. I just love tossing the bike side to side in the twisties with its light weight. There is so much more for me to learn in terms of riding technique rather than just going fast(er) in a straight line or on the freeway. Would love your guys opinions

As a fellow R3 rider I do agree to an extent. I would like it to have a bit more speed with fatter tires and a bit more torque...... which is exactly what this bike does Although it’s a toss up between this and a RS 660 and I gotta admit I’m leaning towards the 660

This is basically a Kawasaki 650, and they need to add an R9 or something the Jump from R3 to R7 isn’t much at all but from R7 to R1 is too much

@@mygi43543 I daily a 2018 r1, and I understand you can have a lot of fun with less hp e.g. mt07. What I don't understand is why Yamaha would choose to replace a legit super sport (r6) with an imitation that doesn't perform anywhere near what a true super sport can do.

Simple, Get truck, get ramp, load bike into bed of said truck, strap bike down, drive off. To unload, reverse the procedure.

I've put my stock exhaust back on, maybe it's because I'm in my 30's and embracing my evolution into middle age but the bike feels more responsive, I can ring its neck and not feel guilty about deafening everyone in a mile radius and arrive at my destination without my ears ringing

I agree with you and no offence but it’s “wring” which describes a twisting motion ie. neck or wet cloth. “Ring” is for bells. Sorry. To me the R7 is something like the old TRX850 - fast B roads for preference. It’s closer to a weaponised CBR500R rather than an R6.

I still don't think the R7 is worth getting. Especially since the price is over 9k and you can tell where they cut cost. Yamaha is betting on riders falling for the looks of the bike and not caring their paying 2k more for a MT07 with fairings.

Looks good. But man, for the price, it lacks a lot. And the optional Quickshifter is very stiff 🤦 Put some TC, power modes, and make the Quickshifter and Auto Blip standard, then this would have been the perfect bike lol What a letdown

I have a feeling you will max out at about 85 hp (clutch/flywheel) with a flash, exhaust and intake filter. I wonder if anybody makes cams for this engine. That or an adjustable cam sprocket to gain a bit of overlap on the stock cams. Might get you to 90-95hp.

@@2wheelsonly614 Sure, I was thinking about it as a project bike for a YT channel. Plus a lot of those 600´s you allude to don´t have much torque down low. It would be neat to see how far you can take one of these engines to have the best of both worlds. I am curious as to how close you can get an R7 platform to compete with something like the new Aprilia RS 660 for instance. Very few people would even attempt such a project but hey maybe this channel might.

As much as everybody loves the mt07 engine, i rode a Tenere and wasn't impressed at all. After being used to an mt09 and a gsxs 1000 i doubt i will be happy with the cp2 engine on a bike that looks fast.

Sinking good money for "Getting more power out" of a bike (or car) is pretty silly IMO. If you want more power, you are way better off buying up to begin with. A R7 will never be a R6 or R1. If it offers what you like, great, if not, I'd buy something else to begin with. Personally, I am about to buy my 3rd R1, but I recently bought a R7 and absolutely love it for street riding, bone stock. Great bike, when looked at for what the bike is supposed to be from the factory. No sense in buying a Labrador and then being disappointed that it isn't a perfect herding dog, and paying for lessons is never going to make it one.

Bikes like this kinda confuse me. I would have rather taken a more powerful engine platform detuned, than this mt07 engine platform that really can't be pushed too much further the way it is. So many people build their Mt07s into dedicated track bikes, I don't see why anyone needs the R7 when literally ANY 600cc class sport bike will exceed its performance. By the way, im not hating on the R7, I just don't understand its purpose in the market

well R7 is much cheaper than are R6, ZX-6R od CBR 600 RR. For me that neans a lot, since I don't really need to have "the most powerful bike ever" and this is good compromise. I currently ride 2019 R3 and I haven't got bored of it even after more than 2 years of riding it. And I realistically with income that I have can't afford to have R6 or R1 for example. I could maybe be able to buy one, but cost of ownership would be too high for me. On the other hand, bikes like R7, Ninja 650 and RS 660 are actually more affordable for me to buy and own, more powerful than my R3 and still look like a sport bike. There will always be a market for bikes like R6 and R1, but I don't see that as a reason to not enter into the market which R7 is aimed for. Not everyone can afford race bikes turned road bikes.

its a nice bike but im really excited for the R9, I feel like this bike is just too slow and doesnt deserve the supersport name. Its like the equivalent of a Ninja 650 with supersport styling.

When I was starting out with riding had to hold off on the R6 for a while and start with Duke 125 and RC390 cause the in-line 4’s were monsters that a 17 year wouldn’t have the self control to not let loose. I can see these being a hit though, considering the average online 4 enthusiast is gonna go for a 1000cc and the beginners are more likely to go for 600 segment twins.
