As a kid my dad plowed the roads for our township. A large Oshkosh, smaller FWD and a Caterpillar #12 grader. The grader had the front blade and V plow and wing. Normally only use the grader blade for scraping ice and the wing. The Oshkosh did the real work, he would keep the blade about 3 inches off the ground so when it hit bit snow it would push down for added traction on the front. I can still recall riding with him and the exhaust pipe coming out through the hood and it glowing cherry red in the night because it was working that hard. Steve…

Spring snow storms in northwest colorado. Dealing with the exact same thing on April 5th. minus a sweet looking gravel road. Got no gravel, , mud and two foot ruts to navigate before I ever get to the drift. Was ten degrees this morning so not too much mud. Chains dig holes. so i make some pack to drive on with chains. This is my rookie year of plowing snow in a grader so most other winters will be piece of cake. This "rookie" has learned a lot watching Graderman's videos. Thanks! Ed Schwartz. ( Becky's husband)

Ran into a similar situation a few years ago. After hitting the drift with the V-plow I would back drag the loose snow out of the hole and dump it off the shoulder. Maybe try tipping your wheels towards the bank to keep the front end from getting pushed over. Use that wing to knock that wall down so you have room for more snow.

I was worried about the same thing here, they forecasted 22” and 45 mph winds. We ended up with around 12” and the wind wasn’t more the 15-20 mph. We had some spots with 3’ drifts, it was fun plowing. I had four dozers placed at farmers yards plugged in ready to go around the townships in case we got into trouble. Great video!!!

Thought I had it bad ! In California, where I hailed from, worked for a Central Valley municipality. Hardest projects were planing 2 to 1 detention pond slopes, working the top down to nearly 30’ in some cases, spilled a few cups of coffee at that angle! During leaf pickup season, farmers let us dump our vac trucks and chip trucks on their fields for turning in to the soil as compost. Grading leaves and wood chips took a little patience, they don’t roll out like gravel or snow! Great to watch your game plan play out, sorry you couldn’t punch it, gotta save the machine for the other areas of the township, right? Good job, man!

Keept it down there.. lol. Knock on wood, I've been very lucky this year, but our storm usually hits in March. The last 2 years I've had the awd, and that sure helps alot. Sucks when the snow falls behind the blade. I can tell how steep that hill is by the sound of your engine. Doesn't quite show on video. Our municipality only has a small snowblower on a tractor and a small loader, but if I can't get through something, we call out the the locals with bull dozens, push it all back to the feilds.. alot of people don't see what goes into opening a road after a good storm.. thanks for the content..

Beginner's mistake...Even if your scraper is flat, on the first stroke, the snow was no higher than your scraper. You should have let your scraper high enough to remove the first 2-3 feets. By removing the top layer, you could have advanced, lower your scraper and move backwards with the snow. Push the snow to the side and repeat until you pass, playing with the wing to widen the passage.

Why do you keep letting off the throttle before and during hitting the drift? I grew up near Rugby ND and have plowed and watched the roads being plowed and you dont tiptoe into big drifts like that you go as fast as it will go and keep on the throttle unless you like being in one spot most of the day. You act like it is your new 4x4 pickup and dont want to get it dirty.

I was wondering how much time you were going to spend there. If you can't see the other end of the drift why waste time ramming a machine into it? I don't know who is in charge up there but in that state there should be a snow blower somewhere that would cut through that drift, even a high flow skid steer snow blower would. Somebody up there needs to get on the ball and get stuff in order there.

I was wondering how the plow is attached. Because if it was me and the mount was proper I'd hit it a little harder than that. I know equipment and you don't want to break anything but 5 to 8 mph faster and you would gain more than a couple inches. And before you go shaking your head I'm not in the habit of breaking things and I been at it long time. I've owned my own company since 72 and know steel. But a warm cab paid by the hour so why hit it like I should. My Dad was like that till I showed him the right way to do it. He just said okay that's good. Drilling for 60 years and hold the record for most footage in a said period. So when you can do that and get double the footage on the bits that anybody else is getting that means you know what your doing. I'm well known and buddy you wouldn't be slack assing like that very long working for me. Chow.

When you don't use the proper equipment to do the job, you'll never complete it. It's like moving a ton of bricks with a teaspoon. Typical example of government wasting money. I'm sure you have a front-end loader or a snow blower that would be much more efficient and less costly. You admitted yourself that what you are doing is not good for the equipment, yet you continue doing it. You need to remove the snow. All you are doing is pushing it.
